  1. This has been standard operating procedure for years. It's not like if they recover costs they'll stop doing every possible thing to run their parks as poorly as possible and remove as many rides / benefits as possible while still tricking people into going there. I love the PR spin they put on it though... "Part of the evolution is a continuous examination of the sustainability, capacity and popularity of our attraction lineup." Yeah, the park that runs one train on their hypercoaster and the chain that is so bad at running two trains on Boulder Dash that they forgot how to even do it and ended up crashing them into eachother is super-worried about the capacity of a Paratrooper... f*ck off. I'm sure Paratroopers are super expensive rides to run and maintain though as only the wealthiest of parks like Conneaut Lake, Old Town, Camden Park and Fun Spot Atlanta can handle the upkeep. Hell, Knoebels had to jack the price up all the way to two entire dollars to make a profit on theirs.

  2. I totally get the maintenance nightmare aspect of many of these rides, but especially with a ride that is so historic and helps you claim to be a national historic landmark, figure something out! Ask for donations, make it an upcharge, have a display that explains why it's special, etc. There are solutions. This isn't just some crappy old boomerang or something. People actually care! Where are the Geauga Lake fanboys with their pick up trucks to save this!?!? Oh and I'm also jumping on the "Knoebels come grab these" bandwagon!

  3. And here's some pictures from the last operating day of the year, including some not-frequently-seen shots of Diamondback and Mystic taken from the train ride.

  5. I *HATE* that RMC there. It offends me! Seriously, I realize it's fine or whatever, but I just feel like it's the worst of all of them and it had sooooo much potential. LOL!

  7. If anyone cares, here's the timeline of Idlewild since 2013... 2013: Removal of historic Caterpillar and Dizzy Lizzy's Saloon (Haunted Swing) 2014: Closing of Mister Rogers Neighborhood (of Sally animatronics) 2015: Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood (of cutouts) opens 2017: Mothballing of Whip after it stands SBNO for more than a season 2018: Ridiculous new Rollo Coaster trains 2019: Super Round Up returns after being gone in 2018 - a "new" ride! 2021: Ferris Wheel, kiddie wheel removed The Tilt-A-Whirl was also changed out at some point for a different one. Net attraction loss: -6! And there are some bad typos in that video, BTW!

  8. Wait, there is actually going to be a safari-themed ride in Safari Village? Is that allowed?
