Erik Johnson Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Leanne and I are going be be going to Knoebels for the first time next week and I was looking for some advice. What are the rides that I should not miss? What foods should I make sure to eat, etc. Any information you can give me would help me greatly...thanks!
CoasterFanatic Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Of course you shouldn't miss any of the coasters, but here are some other things to check out ... Carousel Museum Carousel (Catch the Ring!) Kiddie Boats (By the HSTC. These are more fun than you would think) Haunted Mansion (One of the best!) Flyers (If you can't snap these, there is no hope for you) Looper (One of you will probably hate it, but fun) Sky Slide (Another one of those "more fun that it looks" rides) Magic Show (If they still do it) Scenic Skyway (Worth the $3) Log Jammer Satelite (You won't too may of these that operate correctly) Antique Cars (Get some great photos of Phoenix) Roto-Jets (What a surprise) Skooters (The only bumper cars that can induce future suffering) -- Food -- Breakfast at the International Food Court (Opens before the park) Tri Taters Pierogies Cesari's Pizza
Meteornotes Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Ted pretty much covered the rides, though I'd add The Whip to that list. For food, don't miss the chicken fries and carmel corn. Oh, the milkshakes they serve at the soft ice cream place RULE! Don't miss out on those. dt
Erik Johnson Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 ^^ What are you trying to make me actually gain weight? LOL, if that was possible.
CoasterFanatic Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Don't even try to eat healthy at Knoebels. It is a useless gesture. You are gonna dig this place!
larrygator Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Fandango should also be ridden! although I never rode it, my brohter-in-law swears he gets good air on the Paratrooper. to make it easier just ride everything and sample all the food Pierogies and birch beer are a must if you have never had them before
Schmoofy Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 You should also check out some of the odd games laying around the place. And it would be awesome, if you can snap some pictures of Flying Turns construction for us. I wasn't able to make it within the last 2 weeks to see how it's coming.
SharkTums Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Wait, did someone mention downdraft!?!?! I love that ride!!!
RCoasterny Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Of course you shouldn't miss any of the coasters, but here are some other things to check out ... Carousel Museum Carousel (Catch the Ring!) You don't want to ride the Kiddie Boats- They're too small for you! Instead, ride the Motor Boats, right across from the Skooters. It goes right by the Satellite and Italian Trapeze (make sure you get some boobie shots here.. ) and then heads under the HSTC twice.. While boarding the Sky Slide, ask the operator to give you a good push.. You'll shoot out the bottom of the slide like a rocket! As for the looper- let's see you break the record that me and a operator got over Memorial Day weekend- 110 flips! Forget Tri-Taters. Get the fresh-cut french fries across from Power Surge. As for the Flying Turns construction, I took some on Monday and will post them online this weekend.
CoasterFanatic Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 You don't want to ride the Kiddie Boats- They're too small for you! Instead, ride the Motor Boats That's what I meant. I made a visit on opening weekend a couple years ago and a bunch of us rode them because the line was very short. Todd's son managed to completely turn around his boat in the channel and hit us head on! As for the Sky Slide, you are right on. We rode that one last year at PPP and I will just let the pictures tell the story.
ParkTrips Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Wait, did someone mention downdraft!?!?! I love that ride!!! yay!! I liked it too 8) I also liked the Power Surge even though most complain about it not being run well (its still fun!) I think it would be easier to name the rides that I'd skip.. ie the Scrambler, 1000 Naughts(??).... even the Whip I'd probably put low on the priority list - but dont miss the one at Donkey Park! Even things like the swinging ship and wave swinger are pretty standeard but run extremely well. As for food.. I can back up the notion that you eat all day at the park. We ate lunch at the Mexican place in the Intl Food Court, and later grabbed a funnel cake. I know Larry couldn't walk past the peirogies place without stopping to get one .. its just so cheap and pretty darn good. Of course, YOU HAVE to do the skooters. Like.. 14 times for me. I'd line up and do it first... lines build due to popularity and the insane cycle duration, but its soo worth it. Oh, and ride the Phoenix will ya? - Joe
Rider117 Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Get the waffle cones near the Haunted Mansion, soo good! You will love this place!
BarryH Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Erik, wow! You are going to more parks! Are you going to be the next R&E? No really, Knoebel's is one of my favorite parks. Get lots of airtime on the Phoenix! The Skooters bumper cars are the best I've ever ridden. If you're knees aren't bruised after riding it, it wasn't a good ride. My favorite is to slam the front of your car into the rear corner of the other cars. If you do it right, the other car will spin out of control! It's like "World's Wildest Police Chases!" EDIT: Oh, Knoebel's is one of the few parks where you can do onride videotaping. So hold onto your video camera and start videoing everything!
rollermonkey Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Simply put, Erik: Don't be an idiot like me and try to do Knoebels' the same day as Dorney park and Del Grosso's and you are well on your way to enjoying your trip. Knoebels' and Kennywood are two parks I must revisit because I am a credit whore. /
Guest Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Ride of course pheonix and their world famous haunted house if youre brave enough.
dragoncoaster1292 Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I was about to post this thread when I saw this. Thank you everyone! I'm going there this August, and, without knowing it, you gave me more advice about the what-to-do's at Knoebels then I'll ever need! I am very happy now! Woo! For some apparent reason, that really pumped me up! Does that mean that I am a true coaster nerd?
Erik Johnson Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 Thanks all we had a great time at Knoebels. While it is pretty much impossible to experience everything on your first visit. We wer able to do most of the major stuff. Crap, I forgot Downdraft and the log flume...oops...always next time.
CoasterFanatic Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 ^ Glad you enjoyed your visit Eric. Knoebels is a great park! I can't wait for my next rip out there.
peteb Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 If you're a train fan, the Pioneer train is a relaxing ride that goes out pretty far into the woods and under Twister and the Ol Smokey train is a real steam engine and fun as well. I wouldn't miss a thing if I were you; it's such a great and relaxing park. I would reccomend riding as many old classic rides just because you won't find them anywhere else, like the bumper cars and high speed thrill coaster.
