Wes Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 The little gremlin that likes to attack TPR's server when Robb and Elissa are away showed up today. I contacted Robb, and it looks like things are back to normal. If they go down again for an extended period, go outside or read a book or something. Serenity now. Thanks, The Lovely TPR Mod Staff
Wes Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 Ugh, these forums are up and down more than a bunch of heroin junkies riding X. Sorry guys, hopefully it gets resolved soon.
robbalvey Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Looks like it's someone like DIGG again who have found those Egypt photos! Please be patient, but as long as 400+ people are on the forum, all on the same thread, it will run a bit slow.

As soon as I saw it, I thought "well, the forums are gonna be messed up tonight".
Wes Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 Is anyone else getting errors when they try to upload files?
pkdcoaster Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 YES.... i have been trying to upload a video (crazy I know ) and it gives me an FTP error title says "general error" and in the box it says this Could not connect to FTP Server: 'ftp.themeparkreview.com'. Please check your FTP-Settings. JEFF
DerekRx Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Dio, the perfect way to start off the day! Maybe we need to reconsider the whole Boob reports, that's going to catch on real fast across the net and soon we'll end up with "The Boobs of TPR" in Playboy!
rollermonkey Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I got all 30 odd pictures uploaded in my Eejanaika update, but it was acting a little hinky. Hopefully it will all pass again soon.
tinhead Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 The forum is running very slow here in the UK, I don't know how it is running for other UK members but very slow for me and i have a 10 meg connection......
rollermonkey Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Well, it seems to be back. Thank goodness! The withdrawal symptoms were getting pretty bad! I was getting ready to buy stuff on eBay!
Erik Johnson Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Oh Oh,Hope it wasnt my fault again. It is what happens when you post the most awesome Photo: TR of the year.
CoasterCrazy Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 The site is finally back online! I think dubaidave's awesome Photo TR should have its on sever!
DerekRx Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Yeah, Robb needs to make Dubai's posts only accessible to members It'll either get us a lot more members, or at least keep things running smoothly. No more awesome photos from really crappy places!
robbalvey Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Ok, so here's the deal..... Basically even though we had a new dedicated server, it still couldn't handle the "attacks" we would get from when someone linked us on sites like Something Awful, Digg, Slashdot, etc, which seems to be happening more and more lately. It's good to get that kind of recognition, but bad if we can't handle it. So I've had my webhost move everything over to a more powerful server so we can have 500 - 1000 users online at the same time without crashing the system. It's an additional cost to the site, but I think in the long run it will be well worth it! Everything should be moved over now. The forum database seems to work, FTP uploading seems to work again, and if you run into ANY problems at all, please let me know! --Robb "Sorry for the downtime!" Alvey
BarryH Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I had the evil "Page cannot be displayed" error last night, but everything seems to be working fine now. Yay, I don't have to read the DISBoards anymore!
Carnage Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Do you know if it was the server that couldn't handle the load? Or was it phpBB that couldn't take the load? I was curious about that, as during most of the downtime the forums would be down, but the mainpage would load fine. Or is the forums on a different server then the main page?
robbalvey Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Do you know if it was the server that couldn't handle the load? Or was it phpBB that couldn't take the load? I was curious about that, as during most of the downtime the forums would be down, but the mainpage would load fine. Or is the forums on a different server then the main page? It was both, really. Many times the entire site would crash, but because the content they were linking to was on the forums, that was hit harder. This should help fix the problem....for now! --Robb "Always new things that seem to come up...." Alvey
DerekRx Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 ^Just up the price of the DVDs and that should cover some of the costs. It was a rough couple of hours without site in total working order, but its good to have it back. And its really awesome that you guys care enough to actually try and figure out what the problem is and fix it so the same thing hopefully won't happen again...all while STILL keeping the site free and advertisementless. Robb, you rock!
Meteornotes Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 For what it's worth, the site seems a LOT faster now. Not sure if it's the new server, less people on the site, or the fact that Wes posted a picture of Dio and made everything better, but it does seem more responsive. dt
Wes Posted May 17, 2006 Author Posted May 17, 2006 So if I keep posting pictures of Dio the site will get even faster?
Meteornotes Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 If you keep that up, the site will go so fast that it will break the internet. And that could be bad... dt
