Robbie
I had classes with everyone involved in this accident and talked to them all at points during this year. Anyway, Saturday was our prom night and they apparently got drunk or something after it and went racing on the local interstate wrecked and one was killed and the other paralyzed(from what I know so far) The one paralyzed is still in the hospital in bad shape so please pray for him. www.wtap.com/home/headlines/2759986.html
Blue0ctane
That really sucks, I hope that the paralyzed kid recovers. I believe that in the article, it stated that drugs and alcohol were not suspected to have been a factor.
Robbie
Yes, it does state that in the article, but being friends with these people I know that they were going to have a party, and ive heard from others that are very close that they were infact under the influence. QuakerOaties
Our school faced a similar situation last year and with 300 kids in the high school, it hit hard. One of my classmates (then an 11th grader), a senior, and a sophmore were speeding and crashed into a tree. The 11th grader was killed, the sophmore suffered sever injuries (but is now ok), and the senior walked away with minor injuries. The next few weeks and months will be hard and I'm sorry you have to go through it. Things will eventually be resolved over time but until then be prepared for a lot of crying and anger. disneygurlz2s
Four years ago my 23 year old niece was killed by a drunk driver... a 22 year old Sheriff's Deputy, off duty and plastered. He was also killed. It is so hard to deal with for all involved, when young people lose their lives to senseless accidents. I think back to my "younger days" and I am ashamed for the times I got behind the wheel when I shouldn't have. You just don't realize how impaired you are. I am sorry for the loss of your classmates. Kroger8
I am sorry for all of you who have been through these situations. It is indeed a horrible feeling to know that someone that you have talked to or been friends with, or been related to and loved can be gone in an instant. Last year a really nice girl at school went to a party, got high, and overdosed on a "pole" and marijuana, she was also drunk. Later that night they found her slumped over in the car, so they drove her to the hospital, but she was already dead. It hit really hard in our school because we had only had it happen once before a long time ago. She is very sorely missed. It's really awful to hear all these stories, but all of us will experience a time like this at least once in our lives.
Twister II
One of my closest friends drowned in a lake. In the middle of a football ceremony. The sad part, it was a dare from his dad.
BelizeIt
Hey Robbie, there is nothing quite like having a cold dose of reality thrown at you. The reality in this case is that in the end, we are all responsible for the actions we decide to take on a daily basis. This sad, yet avoidable situation had far too many things working against it. 1) A stolen car, 2) An unlicensed driver (lacking driving experience), 3) Speeding and or racing, 4) No seat belts, 5) Possibly under the influence. Most teenagers, (like these two) have an attitude of invincibility (which is normal), they never intended or imagined that their actions could lead to these tragic results. Sadly, it's a situation like this, that will often make their friends and fellow classmates take notice. Now their friends realize what can happen to them, they are more likely to avoid ending up in a similar situation. For my Prom, the local Police dragged out some wrecked car (A common Police tactic) to show teenagers what can happen with drinking and driving, and whereas many teens just roll their eyes, others do get the message that this can occur. Hopefully the surviving teen makes a full recovery, because paralyzed or not, the local District Attorney will still likely charge him with some type of accessory charge involving the theft of the vehicle, which will only make his new reality even worse. By the way, what's up with these so-called friends of his in the other cars??? Did they help their injured classmates? Because the article seems to state that they stopped at the accident, then fled the scene! That wrong in so many ways!!!
ncf
Blame it all on alcohol. Everything would be so much better if it didn't exist. 50% of all crime (in Norway atleats) involves alcohol.
Swimace
Two kids were killed last year at my school in unrelated accidents. One crashed a car on the interstate and another got hit by a car while crossing a road at night. It shook up the school pretty bad. The school always parks a wrecked car infront of the senior parking lot before spring break to try and prevent things like this, although it's recieved as a scare tactic and nobody really takes it seriously. There's nothing wrong with alcohol. It's peoples common sense that seems to be lacking. If you don't abuse alcohol and know your limits you can have a perfectly fine time. the_rock401
Watching the 10 PM news, a car got hit down in Farmington. HS junior was killed, two others cut out alive. No drugs or booze, everyone was wearing seatbelts. We have buried two high school classmates since our graduation in June of 2002. One died in a car crash, the other by his own hand. Despite the fact that we had all graduated, we all got really close, and it re-established a lot of channels between us '02 grads. It was also terribly sad. It is a very sobering sight to see a high school classmate in a casket. Funerals for the elderly, knowing they've experience much of what life had to offer, are sad, but it's very much a celebration. But funerals of high school classmates... (shudder)

ParkTrips
Sorry to hear your loss but I hope you understand when myself and I'm sure others can only be so sorry when it is known that there was drinking (underage, to boot), underage driving and apparently a stolen vehicle involved. Hate to say it but it sounds a lot like natural selection here. A lot of us have gone through it, I had a friend die about a year ago as well in a drug trafficking mess. There are dangers with choices we make, and several people die due to poor choices. You gotta remember the person for what they were and move on, best of luck in doing so. - Joe

spotfan
My school does this thing called: every 15 minutes. it is based off of a statistic that every 15 minutes a person dies in an alcohol related accident. So some one gets "killed" every 15 minutes, it goes on though the day until about lunch time then the grand finally: which is a mock car crash. All of that is just day one. day 2, is the assembly where we listen to students speak and say stuff that they couldn't say due that they were "killed". the assembly ends there are people crying and stuff. now you might wonder how this has anything to do with this topic, the reason is because my school used to have some student die due to a drunk driving accident. But since our school put this program into action we now have zero. -end i hope that ok
Fry
Ah, I'm so sorry. I've been quite lucky with death, I've never lost a close clasmate. But, Christmas 03 my sister's best friend was killed in a drink driving accident half a mile down the road. All three in the car were killed. The scary thing is, both my sisters should have been in that car but my Mum had made them stay in as she'd discovered they'd been smoking. So close to being an only child. So, I suppose smoking has saved me from losing two siblings.
