Canadmos Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 Heres a Vortex video showing its entire layout. I didn't think it was good enough for the video forum, so I didn't upload it there. :/ http://media.putfile.com/Vortex-layout-shot
niiicolaaah Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 ::EDIT:: Am I hallucinating, or is that TWO trains running AT ONCE on Top Gun?????????? What park IS this???Obviously a photoshop or something...which park would run two trains so close together? Ok, good, I WAS hallucinating!
DerekRx Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Great photos. I never really hear much about PCWo, so its nice to see some pictures of the place before I visit. I'm looking forward to next weekend, isn't that weird!?
thecoasterkid Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 There are a few of us PCW junkies on the board, myself included. I'm sure you could even grab yourself a personal tour guide if you wanted.
307 Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Is there a reason why they're taking out Sol Loco, or are they just doing it because it's old and in a bad location? I notice it's pretty shaky, but it's one of the few giant orbiters I've seen ever and it'd suck if they lost it to the scrap heap. It's such a great ride for molesting my girlfriend on.
Carnage Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I'd probably guess it's age. I've rarely seen it run in the past few years. It's almost always just been sitting there idle.
thecoasterkid Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I heard that it is the parks main goal to take away as many molestation possibilities as possible...sorry man. Sol Loco is most likely being taken out due to high maitenance costs and low ridership. It's a walk-on even on busy days, so hopefully they'll put in something great to replace it.
Carnage Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 ^ My bet is on a Huss Topple Tower to replace it. It would fit the theme of the area. The whole intense looking rides, which are actually very tame theme.

thecoasterkid Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I still think this stunt show should work out well. The parks main issue imo is it's inablility to handle large crowds. Most of the rides have low capacity and this leads to really long lines. The stunt show should pull a couple thousand people (yet to hear official numbers on the size of the "arena") out of the lines and into the arena to watch the show. If it proves to be a success everyone should see some relief in wait times while the show is going on.
dougr Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 You guys are missing the, as the PNE carnies call it-OrBITER? Ouch! It was rock hard, painful and felt dangerous, and not in a good way.
SharkTums Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 This picture had me cracking up!!! I IM'd it to Robb and he laughed too!
niiicolaaah Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 ^LOL... it looks like the dragon is gonna eat that lady!! I heard that it is the parks main goal to take away as many molestation possibilities as possible...sorry man. I think you are right! Zumba Flume was sacrificed for Top Gun. Bayern Curve was removed to build Fly. And now Sol Loco is biting the dust. WTF PCW, why won't you let me get my molestation on???? ::EDIT:: Zumba Flume never had friendly seating. It was 2-across.
RCoasterny Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Actually, Orbiter was in a very bad location. When they redid the area that Psyclone and Sledgehammer is in, the way the paths work would have taken you past Orbiter, and the way Orbiter is located, you wouldn't even know it's there! You had to walk downhill to get to the Orbiter entrance, and there were shrubbery that blocked it's view from the midway. The only way I knew it was still there was when it was running a cycle. I pratically had to hunt for the entrance, because I was dead set on riding Sol Loco/Orbiter. It wasn't even listed on the map when I visited that day. It was like PCW swept it under the rug and hoped no one would notice. I'm sad to see it go, as it was very unique. It looks like it's going the way of the Intamin Sky Wheels.
Canadmos Posted May 9, 2006 Author Posted May 9, 2006 I agree about its location problems, though I don't think it really has anything to do with the Sledgehammer area. I think its main problem is that it is basically hidden behind a washroom building and the stupid cyber sez game. If those two things were gone and they put in a bigger sign or a marker out on the midway I think more people would realize that there is a ride down there.
Carnage Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 It's location isn't the best, but it's not like it's totally hidden. Anyone who walks down towards Minebuster/SKyrider/Splashworks can see it clearly.

Yeah but the entrance is nowhere near where it's visible When I was working at the ex-Video Making place that's right next to it, I can't even count the number of times people asked where that "cool spinning thing" was. It wasn't on the map, for one thing, and people could see it from one spot but it's a long trek to turn around and actually go find the entrance.
shesaidboom Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 It was always a little hard to find since the entrance led down a little hill, but I remember there being a big sign with egyptian statues on it that kind of matched the egyptian themeing of Pharoh's Falls before they took that out. There also used to be a lot less blocking it..but recently they've been putting more and more in the area. I'm really sad to see it go.
niiicolaaah Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Awww, I miss Pharoah's Falls. And Shiva's Fury. What happened to that area of the park?!?! lol.
DerekRx Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Grrr! I want to molest people in Canada. Stupid Paramount, ruining my plans!
niiicolaaah Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 You can still molest people, it just will be less subtle.
Carnage Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 ^ I once saw an onride photo of Magnum at Cedar Point. The guy was groping what I hope was his girlfreind. Unforunatly PCW is really lacking in the quality on ride photo department.
Canadmos Posted May 10, 2006 Author Posted May 10, 2006 lol...speaking of onrides, did anyone ever see the onride photo on the wall of the Top Gun photo booth of the guy riding with a hamburger and a drink in his hand?
