Photo TR: Extreme Bike at Old Town 3/18/06

I was down in the Old Town this weekend and I figured I would stop and visit. They have 2 new attraction near the Skycoaster called the Extreme Bike and Screamtower. They are $3 each to ride. The concept with the bike is to pedal on the forward swing to get the momentum to get all the way around. Easier said than done. Enjoy the pics.

We got about 3 full revolutions in about 3min. It was a lot of fun!

It is very hard to pedal when you are hanging upside down!

I saw this thing on Daily Planet on the Discovery Channel.

 

Not an ACE certified ride.

 

But looks very cool.

I rode one of these at IAAPA a few years ago. A lot of fun, and a new twist on the swinging cages of yesteryear. I didn't find it too hard to get it to go over, and once it did, it was really easy. I kept trying to get it to hang at the top for as long as possible. Good stuff, nice to see some places have finally started buying them.

We were there Sunday Night and saw one person ride it over a 2 hour period!

I agree, I dont think it does a whole lot of business. Its on the same walking path as the drag cars are, and its right near the Skycoaster, but I dont think it was a huge draw. It cant be seen from the road at all.

 

When we rode it we had about 10 people watching us as it was a Sat afternoon and there were people milling around due to the car show that night. Some people did buy tickets to try it after we got off. Otherwise, it is dead over there.

I went on something similar to that a few years back at the Ontario Science Centre when they were doing an exhibit on thrill rides and roller coasters. They had this bike that was on a track that was a giant loop and you pedalled to go upside down. It was supposed to illustrate G-forces or soemthing like that. It was cool though. I also remember they had videos of roller coasters and all of my friends thought it was so cool. I on the other hand, had actually been on the rides they had shown (Loch Ness Monster, BGW).

^ I remember that exhibit. That bike in a ring thing didn't look all that stable as it looked like the ring was made of sheet metal, but I did ride it and found it rather easy to get over the top. I remember pedaling from rest I got to nearly vertical and only took four or five more times after that to go upside down. After that I just tried to see how fast I could go, and then eventually I just stopped pedaling afraid of how fast I was going and went upside down quite a few times on momentum alone. I need to find that exhibit again as it'll be a long time before I can get down to FL.
