MForce310 Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 and I do not need a system that has Hi-Def Graphics, (whats the point?) Obviously you don't nuderstand this difference. People like to bash HDTV even when they don't have one. (And half the people who own one DON'T have High Definition content. That's the same as not having one.) HD is not just a "better picture". When I hear that, I want to hurt myself. It's a better EXPERIENCE. You are drawn into the image way more than a standard definition television or program would. It's not "like being there" as you might hear but it's a heck of a lot more realistic and easier to lose yourself in. I won't be buying a Revolution. I'm really not a gamer at heart, but PS3 has an allure to me. Why? Because of those extra things. I DON'T have a Blu-Ray player (yet), and that is very important. I do like some games, but a cheap and effective Blu-Ray player is a great thing to have. PS3 also appeals to me simply because it's a new way to get High Definition. XBOX 360 does have that, but all it offers to me is gaming. Not good enough for me (an admitted non-gamer). Gah, Conan (in HD) is over, time for bed.
BelizeIt Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Hey I grew up with the Atari 2600! So, I like all video game systems! I currently own the current X-Box, PlayStation, and Nintendo systems. I'm glad that Nintendo is still in the game, I hope that they will be able to compete with Sony and Microsoft! During my younger years, I pumped more quarters into "Donkey Kong" then any other Video Game!!! I hope that Nintendo can compete, and remain profitable, with their competitors!

Besides...who said that the PS3 was going to have a "cheap and effective" Blu-ray drive? Blu-ray and cheap are not synonymous.

MiamiBoii4392 Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 OH MY GOD, look what I found in a Nintendo Revolution Forum!!!
Wes Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 ^ You realize that's probably just a fan made Photoshop right?
MiamiBoii4392 Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 Yes. I realize that, but still, I think its about time someone came up and did this. Also the revolution is not the console's official name, so this cannot be the box. I was just reading on wikipedia that the Nintendo Revolution might be named "Nintendo 'Go" which 'go' in japanese means "five". And this is the fifth home console they are making.
Damien666 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 What I'm hearing it will be Nintendo Go. Revolution is it's code name. Just like Gamecube's was Nintendo Dolphin.
MiamiBoii4392 Posted April 6, 2006 Author Posted April 6, 2006 First there's that rumor about the console being named "Nintendo Go". Now there's another one that says that the console will be called "Nintendo Nplay". Does anone have any idea?
Blazen_AZN Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 The system, i believe, won't be galled the Nintendo GO, for two reasons... 1: Nintendo, the KING of "we do not comment on rumors or speculation" was asked about the name "Go" and they flat out said they had no idea where that name came from, and that is not it's name. 2: "Go" is actually a word in english, and one that makes no sense for the console. Most people don't know what it means in Japanese. Also, the name implies that it is a handheld, which it is not. About "Nintendo 'N PLay", two more reasons why i don't think it will be the name... >It sounds terrible and kiddie, I would hope Nintendo has better marketing people then that. > Thename plug 'n play is already used for a video game player, while not exactly the same, its just alittle too close. All will be answered next month...

That is not true, in Japanese "go" means "five" and that could be the name because this is the fifth home console Nintendo is making.
Blazen_AZN Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 ^ Right, but it doesnt matter what it means in Japanese if its being sold in America. To us, 'go' means 'go'! In Japan its a possibility, here, not so much.
Homer Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 ^Nintendo Go sounds like a name I would expect for a portable console. I think the codename is a good enough name. I mean, after all, its revolutionary! Despite the fact that it is slightly less powerful than the other two consoles though.
coasterguy618 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 ^Same here. NEW for 2006, the Nintendo GO. With 3 screens!
MiamiBoii4392 Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 ^ I guess you're all right. As Mark said, "All our questions will be answered next month".
Blazen_AZN Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Well we have one question answered this month, too! April 7, 2006 - The latest issue of Game Informer Magazine has a cover story on an ambitious new game developed from the ground up for Nintendo's next generation console, codenamed Revolution. The title, called Red Steel, according to the publication, is a first-person shooter that enables players to take control of a sharp sword in addition to an assortment of guns to fight off enemies. The mag published first screens of the title in motion, which appear to be in 16x9 widescreen, and they look pretty good to us. We encourage readers to pick up the latest issue to see the images for themselves. The title utilizes the Revolution's free-hand style pointer for some innovative control mechanics, Game Informer reports. For instance, players are able to hold swords or guns normally or side-armed depending upon how they hold the controller. Meanwhile, it's possible to block incoming attacks using the sword, too. The publication also states that gamers will be able to jump over and take cover behind objects with the flick of the Revolution controller. On top of everything else, the mag promises that Red Steel will not only support an online multiplayer mode, but arrive as a launch title later this year. From http://www.IGN.com I really hope this is an example of things to come for the revolution. This game was made ONLY for the revolution, it makes use of the controller, it sounds like a mature game, and is made by a big-name publisher. Great.
roller coaster fanatic Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 The 360 and PS3 will kill the Revolution in sales... the 360 and the PS3 both have fast processors HD graphics and so on. Sony and Microsoft can Accomplish these Tasks because they make computers and computer products so they are trained in the area... While Nintendo is not. G4 Tech TV said " Revolution will appeal to first time gamers while PS3 and 360 will appeal to all ages. Plus Sony is now using Blu ray disks The format provides five times larger capacity than today's DVDs, with unprecedented storage capacity of 25 GB (single-layer) and 50 GB (dual-layer). Blu-ray Disc™ players will be fully backward compatible with current DVD formats, delivering entertainment content in full high-definition (HD) quality, under a secure environment made possible through the most advanced copyright protection technology. Java will allow for more dynamic, more sophisticated interactivity. Blu-ray Disc™ was created to match the accelerating growth in digital consumer electronics and computer technology. The platform supports the convergence of film, music, gaming and other computer entertainment in a single standard. Sony Computer Entertainment's adoption of Blu-ray Disc™ ROM technology in the next-generation PlayStation 3 system was announced at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Sony has announced that the PlayStation 3 will be shipped with a Blu-ray drive, but possibly just a read-only one. It is expected to read all DVD and CD formats in addition to BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE. The only thing that revolution has that is better is the controller because the controller responds to your movements like swinging
roller coaster fanatic Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 heres more about the blue ray disks TOKYO--According to Kyodo News, Sony officials announced today that they will use Blu-ray Disc technology in their next-generation console, most commonly referred to as the PlayStation 3. Sony revealed its decision at a press conference held by the Blu-ray Disc Founders (BDF), an organization committed to developing and standardizing the next-generation optical disc format. The BDF also used the occasion to announce that it will finalize the specifications for the read-only version of Blu-ray Discs (BD-ROMs) by September 30. Sony has been investing heavily into Blu-ray product development and was the first company to have a disc recorder on the market. The company had previously hinted that it may use the format in the PS3. Sony's Blu-ray Disc R&D division chief Kiyoshi Nishitani commented in an interview with Asahi PC magazine in March that the company would like to establish ground in the Blu-ray Disc market by adopting BD-ROMs for its "home video game console." The Blu-ray Disc Founders organization is composed of Sony, Panasonic, and 11 other major electronic makers. Like its predecessor, the DVD, the BD-ROM will primarily be used for movies. The companies plan to start marketing Blu-ray Disc playback machines (without recording capabilities) by the end of the fiscal year. Sony is relying heavily on the Blu-ray Disc format, so the use of Blu-ray as the market standard in next-generation media is vital, especially since the company also publishes movies through its Sony Pictures subsidiary. Adopting the Blu-ray Disc for the PS3 should help spread use of the format, similar to what the PlayStation 2 did for DVDs. Early expansion of the Blu-ray format would be ideal for Sony, considering it will have to compete with high-definition DVDs (HD DVD) in the future. Blu-ray Discs can hold 25GB on a single layer and 50GB on the dual-layer discs, while HD DVD discs--which have yet to be released--will hold only 30GB on a dual-layered disc. Sony said it will reveal more details on the PlayStation 3 at a premiere event in Japan on March 31, 2005. The console will also be on display at next year's E3 in Los Angeles.
Slacking Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 I could care less about lightning fast speeds and super realistic graphics. Give me fun gameplay and I'm there. Unfortunately most people prefer the former over the latter, so the PS3 and the 360 will probably outsell The Revolution. I hope the controller gimmick turns out well and its possible that The Revolution will be able to hold its own if it does work well. But for me, i have no interest AT ALL in the 360 or PS3, The Rev will be the only system I'm even contemplating on getting.
MiamiBoii4392 Posted April 10, 2006 Author Posted April 10, 2006 ^^ I can also care less, I'd play it if it's fun, and you up there, blabbing about the PS3 and the Blu-Ray drive, the manufacturing price of the PS3 is right now estimated to be about eight hundred dollars. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo actually makes a profit for every system they sell. And with discs of that much capacity, you're looking at a price of $90-$100 per game. Or more.
Blazen_AZN Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Gameply>Garphics to me. I have no idea how sales are going to play out, everyone thought the PSP was going to kick the DS's butt, and DS is EASILY outselling the PSP. Over 3:1 on japan (pre DS Lite, which is selling like crazy) The DS vs PSP pretty much represents the next gen race, so you never know...
robbalvey Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Faster CPU's and bigger HD's do not equal better games or better selling systems. No one can predict how systems will sell until they come out. For example, everyone expected XBOX to flop and look what happened. Personally, from having played several games with the new controller and the Revolution seeming to dominate the "retro craze" they've got a good shot at getting back their #2 position. --Robb "No one will beat out Sony." Alvey
Blazen_AZN Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Personally, from having played several games with the new controller Several.... *drool* Dang you're lucky, Robb!
robbalvey Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Heh...I have a box of Revvy controllers sitting outside my office right now. If I had my digital camera, I'd take a picture of one! Oh well.... --Robb
