DenDen Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 From WSVN7 12/05/20058-year-old girl recovering after falling from Miami carnival ride MIAMI (AP) -- An investigation is being conducting to find out how an eight-year-old girl fell from a carnival ride in Miami. Elianny Rodriguez was on the spinning ride Gee Wizz on Friday night when she slipped from her seat. Her father tells The Miami Herald that she has head trauma, a broken arm and serious cuts and bruises. The ride was part of a carnival set up in the parking lot of a Little Havana dog track. Witnesses tell authorities that the ride's restraining harnesses suddenly became loose, and Elianny slipped from under the security bar across her waist and fell before the operator could hit the ride's emergency stop. Authorities say the girl fell about 20 feet to the ground. Five other children and three adults also were injured. Inspectors say the ride is closed until the cause of the accident is determined. The carnival continues through Sunday. The news reported that she had her face smashed, and all her front teeth knocked out. Here is a GEE WIZ.
Mr.Six Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Good to hear that she survived. The main reason why I decide not to go to the Death Fairs! _six
BelizeIt Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Traveling Carnivals Suck! You have a Bunch of Questionable Characters in Charge of Various Rides Who Look like they Have the IQ of the Common Garden Toad! I Avoid Them at all Costs! It Just isn't Worth It!
ECZenith Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 There's been way too many carnival accidents recently. How does a harness possibly loosen during operation?
Homer Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 The ride probably had a lot of wear and tear. I rode this EXACT same machine back in 2004 at a youth gathering in Orlando. Need I say more, as you can see in the pic, one of the lights flew off and it broke down alot during the event (smoke kept coming out of the engine). Still, carnys scare me...
Carnage Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 At least it wasn't Conklin this time. Or was it? The article doesn't mention who was running the fair. You take your life in your hands going to those carnivals.
Teddymonster Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I was at this carnival once, and this assmunch decided to ignore me when I said my restraint didn't lock. It was one of those "Tornado" rides, which is actually kind of fun. I wanted to kill him after I got off. Probably, would have too, if my little cousins weren't there to witness.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I can't stand carnivals. I haven't been to one in years and probably will never go back to one again.
ECZenith Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 For me to go on a carnival ride... it has to be a unique ride not found at local parks. The only time it's worth it to me is if its like... a KMG Fireball, KMG Tango, Moser G-Force, Mondial Top Scan, etc.
Thrasher Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 They played this up on the news here for while. Its very good that she survived though. I second and third everyones notions of the death fairs. They just dont seem to have the responsibility that most park operators have, and their rides are always put together very quickly. No thanks!
benzo41190 Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 there was one of these at the Wisconsin State Fair. The ride is fun and gives ALOT of airtime except the one at the Wis Fair was shacking alot. When the ride would come down it would shake back and forth creating head banging!
doom1001 Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Several years ago maybe 6-7, me and my brother were on the rainbow ride at the Miami-Dade county Fair. We were seated on the top row of the right side and if you know the ride the only thing that keeps you from flying out is two metal bars that go from vertical to horizontal. There was only one operator who started the ride with those bars not vertical or horizontal but somewhere in the middle, luckily we were on the side of the operator and yelled at him from about 15-20 feet in the air that the bars weren't down, He brought it back down and we got off the ride. The fair had just opened and there weren't many people on the ride, I just wonder what would have happened if we were seated on the other side of the ride and there was nobody to yell at him that the bars weren't down.
Twister II Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 A carnival comes around here once a year. Called the Stampede. And seriously, it is really the only fun thing to do in this town. Except if you consider smelling cow poo fun.
benzo41190 Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 the rainbow ride doesnt have much airtime though I dont think you would have fallen out.
Twister II Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 **COUGH COUGH**http://www.thedailycamera.com/news/statewest/29lamus.html**COUGH** 4th paragraph
Twister II Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 The guy fell out of Rainbow and was killed, if you even read it.
