Cedar Point wasting money with Skyhawk?

Recommended Posts

Cedar Point has announced Skyhawk: the tallest Screamin' Swing to date. However, I can't help but think it's a waste of a good $6 million. Just look at the statistics:

2005's MaXair:

1.) 50 riders per cycle

2.) 1,000 riders per hour

3.) 84 foot tall structure

5.) 140 foot max swing

6.) 70mph

2006's Skyhawk

1.) 40 riders per cycle

2.) 800 riders per hour

3.) 103 foot tall structure

4.) 125 foot max swing

5.) 60mph

All I have to say is

A.) Skyhawk should have been built before MaXair or

B.) Skyhawk should not be built at all and

C.) At least White water landing was removed for this! So there is hope for a new coaster in 2007!!!!

P.S. Just watch-some Six Flags park will take away the glory in about a year...Just like Kingda Ka. Tisk. :? Tisk.

Dude...just because a ride doesnt have the same pull thru as another doesnt mean a park "wasted" money...

The same can be said about the vu's and any boomarang coaster for that matter...

You may feel at home at this site lol lol...

First off there is a discussion about this ride already... but I'm going to post here because this kind of thing really makes me mad. Are you Ohio people mad just because this is not a coaster!? Give me a break. Sure, I don't think this is as good of an addition as MaXair last year, but it is still good, not to mention different than MaXair. The restraints and everything else about the ride really make it a totally different experience. And give me a break about the "glory" of having the biggets Screamin' Swing. Who cares? It is just a marketing ploy. It is not that big of a deal and is not intended for anykind of "glory". Give me a break. I love Cedar Fair and their parks, but it is people like you that really make people look down upon those who favor the company.

I think you're getting the wrong idea. I love Cedar Point more than any other park. I really just don't see the point in building MaXair in 2005 and turn around and build a similar ride in 2006. What is wrong with a Sky Swatt? It's totaly different than the other two? Additionally, Kennywood is putting in a Screamin' Swing, so why not go for something else the isn't in this area. I mean MaXair was just King's Island's Delerium built bigger. I don't see why they gave up their originality to just build things bigger. I know coasters can't be built ever year, but there were better options for a new ride besides a Screamin' Swing.

Ok, I get that. Dorney is my homepark and I love that park too. You can only get so original when it comes to "flats". Plus I'm sure that in the planning process they didn't know that there would be this surge in Scream' Swings being built. I don't know about Cedar Point sometimes. I mean, do they have a scrambler? And I'm still waiting on the Top Spin too. I don't get it sometimes, but this is a fine addition in my opinion.

LOL LOL this is getting funnier and funnier...guys its not the end of the world its just a screamin' swing! so what A park near has the same thing...how many of the GP knows that...it doesnt stop the people from going to kings dominion being that six flags america has the same coaster as flight of fear...

And from my understanding maXair and deliruim are the same rides? I would love for some of you guys to actually run the park for a month and you will see how well you know what a park should get or not get...

I think you guys set yourselves up for disappointment, jumping to conclusion and thinking that the construction pics w/ woods were for a new wooden coaster. Now that you now it's not a new coaster, you arr disappointed. Cedar Point still has a great number of coasters and a new addition of a flat ride just adds to the overall variety of attractions. It still has more coasters running and better atmosphere than SFMM.

Isn't this ride a paid attraction? So if it is then the through put should not be a question because a lot of people will not pay extra money for rides. I just hope this ride works better then the Eruption rides there nothing but paper weights. Not to mention there boring.

Valleyfairs is the exact same specs - reaching a max height of 125ft.

So heres the conundrum...

Valleyfair I believe makes no mention of it being the worlds largest swing but CP does yet, Cedar Fair installs the same ride elsewhere. Interesting, no?

Well $6 Million does seem like a lot for a ride like this, you think they would get a discount since the last S&S ride at Cedar Point fell down. I mean its not an upcharge attraction I think, due to its location so thats cool. But I think now the bigger question is what is going in at the WWL site, since this ride doesn't even touch that land. It has to be something big if they are already prepping the site by removing the old ride, so that should be interesting...

I would say that any screamin' swing would qualify as "biggest swingset in the world",

It's just hyperbole guys, not some guiness record.

I don't care if there is a bigger one, these rides are really fun yo.

And hell yeah, SFMM fo life fool, Seeder Pouint gots noufin' on S:TE and thats treal!

^Actually, Maxair is 3 ft taller in full swing than Delirium which I believe is the only other full sized swing in existance.

But that is getting petty...but these parks are good at that.
