imbordisux Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Found this on RCDB: http://www.rcdb.com/id2907.htm From the description: This shuttle loop does not use an electric motor to lift the car up the hill. It is lifted up the hill by "human" power. So, uh, what exactly does that mean? Are there, like, foot-pedals or something? How do these work? Also, are there any other "human-powered" coasters out there?
coasterfreak101 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 There's one at BonBonLand! And fromk the Europe TR, there's a few in Europe it seems!
Teddymonster Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 As Coasterfreak stated...check out the European Trip for several examples of what you're looking for! BTW...the incline on that lift would make this ride a killer work out! Just keep me out of it and no one will get hurt.
momo1tx Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I think that's different. The coasters on the TPR trip were self operated, but not powered by people, they were "Butterfly" models.
Dailey Enterprizes Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Um I think it's powered because I see a blue wheel assembly on the front of the car in this pic, but I don't see it in this one. It looks like it resembles those wheel assemblies that lift the rear of Boomerang type coasters
tngdiablo Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 http://www.rcdb.com/id1854.htm The Switchback Railway listed above was built after the first true roller coaster in the United States, also named "Switchback Railway" at Coney Island. At the end of the thrilling 8 MPH ride, riders have to get out of the train and push it up to the deck so it can make the trip back to the other station. That's the extent of human powered coasters, that I know of at least. I'm not sure if there are other modern human powered coasters as that would just seem so out of place.
WillMontu Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I'm thinking that there's a ground crew who work to pull the car up the lift. If you look at this picture http://www.rcdb.com/ig2907.htm?picture=2, there appears to be a rope or cable going up the back spike.
Teddymonster Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 ^^Coaster Oompa Loompas? I was wondering if that's how it worked...
socalMAN123 Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 That's pretty wierd and cool! A self-powered coaster, gotta have one of those, just way smaller! ---Brent 8)
Jeezus Juice Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 There are some places in Nepal where there is very little or no electric power at all. What you have found is basically a shuttleloop with a rope attached to the front of the car. 6-8 of your closest friends have to winch you to the top for you to be released. And Knotts ride ops say they work too hard! Here is another people powered coaster only this time the riders are the ones to power the lift: http://www.rcdb.com/id2493.htm I'll let you guys stew over how this one works... Jeezus "Nepal has a human powered ferris wheel too" Juice
rollermonkey Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 ^ I hope the UK trip itinerary includes this one! Chris B
imbordisux Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 Check this thing out: http://www.rcdb.com/id3050.htm
