Tower of Terror Airtime???

Recommended Posts

I've rode nearly every major brand/make of drop tower out there, and liked them all for different reasons. They all give great, yet widely varied, forms of airtime; some more floater, some big pops of ejector, some a mix of both.

I've never rode the Tower of Terror (TOT) at the Disney parks but on forum after forum, thread after thread, whenever the topic comes up, there's always this camp of people vouching for the ride, saying how amazing the airtime is.

So, is the hype real?... If so (or if not), what's the airtime feel similar to? I'd imagine it'd feel kind of like the s&s towers, but a tad weaker. Really not sure though, just a guess.

Orlando ToT still has the best airtime but it's not as crazy as it used to be. I remember when it used to have a bar for the whole row and it would stop with tons of space for potential airtime. I wouldn't call it the best airtime on a drop ride. I think some of the S&S towers give more airtime.

The best airtime on Tower of Terror is when you go up to the top of the tower and then without stopping you go right back down to the bottom. It seems like you are floating for ages. It's much different than the sometimes ejector air you get at the top of an S&S Space Shot, but better than an S&S Turbo Drop. I would compare it a bit to a Falling Star ride without the laterals.

I too think that Intamin drop towers have better, and certainly more intense airtime than Tower of Terror. I don't think people would be saying Tower of Terror's airtime was that amazing if stayed as it was when it opened with just a single drop from the top of the tower.

Maybe not the best airtime, but just about the best feeling of airtime.

As we're talking drop tower airtime, I think the Fabri drop towers like Detonator at Thorpe Park have incredible airtime, better than any Intamin or S&S I've ridden.

I have found the airtime amazing on both the Paris' Tower of Terror, as well as the one

in Tokyo Disney Sea. Both have their great airtime moments.

That's a photo for the record books.

I do think it's funny that you chose the worst two ToT's as your faves, haha. Orlando's has the best airtime without a doubt. California and Paris have the same awful design (aesthetic and functional) but deliver the screams. Tokyo DisneySea has the absolute best themeing and design but the worst drop profile, though still a TON of fun!

ToT has a few maneuvers that can produce great airtime. The sequence is randomized though so you might not get these on every ride:

My favorite was mentioned earlier

The best airtime on Tower of Terror is when you go up to the top of the tower and then without stopping you go right back down to the bottom. It seems like you are floating for ages.

My next Favorite is when you drop about 1/2 the tower, and then start to rise to 3/4 of the tower and then abruptly drop again. Your mind thinks you are going all the way to the top again, but then you unexpectedly drop again.

Lastly, Is drop 1/4 and then stop for a split second, and then drop again. Oh we are stopping, are we going up, no DOWN!

Truly one of the best rides in the world.
