robbalvey Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 (edited) Hey everyone! I want to take a moment to remind the forum how important good spelling and grammar are when it comes to posting on these boards. Keep in mind we are NOT "spelling Nazi's" because we know everyone makes mistakes. BUT, running your post through a spell checker before hitting 'submit' will help catch a good amount of mistakes. I'm just as guilty as the next person when it comes to typo's, but I DO spell check every post, and it catches 80% to 90% of my mistakes. A while ago Google released a spell checker as part of their toolbar: http://toolbar.google.com/ It works GREAT! It's quick, and easy to use. I highly recommend it if you are one who types faster than your brain can spell (like me!) Thanks again to everyone for making this forum great! --Robb Edited October 10, 2005 by robbalvey
Stitch Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I use it on all of my posts too but I still have an occasional mistake that it doesn't pick up
robbalvey Posted October 4, 2005 Author Posted October 4, 2005 ^ and IMO, those occasional mistakes are fine! It's those posts where you have to translate them into English that frustrate me! --Robb "When there are free tools out there, use them!" Alvey
chauncey Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Macintosh people don't need a toolbar (although, it is available!). All you have to do, in any program, is click on "Edit" in the toolbar, and then "Spelling". It even has different languages, and dialects. Of course, I never use it, although I probably need to. Oh, and I just spell-checked this post, and found no errors.
mark.w Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Good find becuase when it comes to find typos I run for gold. Does it work with IE or other browsers too?
CoasterCrazy Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 ^I'm using it in Firefox and it's working great!
ebl Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Ideally we should know how to spell in the first place. But I know not everyone's perfect. Eric
Stitch Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I know it works for IE and I think Mozilla's Fire Fox has a spell checker of it's own.
WillMontu Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Great idea. Now if we can get a grammer checker too. I hate it when people type in all caps (or no caps at all). Still, it was about time that they released a Firefox version. Also, Robb, make this a sticky!
coaster1 Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I'd like a grammer one as well to prevent the retarded "internet jargon" talk. Haven't seen alot here, but have seen some. Cause I'm so l33t !
Hattuchili Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I use a spell checker, but does it help someone from Germany, like me? --Sören "I hope my english is good enough for TPR" Schomburg
Twister II Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 When I try to use Google Spellchecker, it says that there was a problem, and that to try again later, or to make sure the internet is connected. :?
Neuski Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 SpellBound is also a great spelling extension to have if you use Firefox/Mozilla.
robbalvey Posted October 5, 2005 Author Posted October 5, 2005 uhh? i dought kno what ur talkin abot Dammit...I thought you said doughnut....and I was all "Mmmm...doughnuts!"
AllisonY2K Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Ideally we should know how to spell in the first place. Exactly. See Robb, if you would have paid more attention in school and less attention to those construction photos of the Coney Island Cyclone we wouldn't have this problem. ~Allison "not calling him old" Y2K~
Homey G. Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 ^ What construction photos? The internet wasn't invented until Al Gore.
Guy T. Koepp Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Wait a minute! You all are telling me that these computer thingys will check our spelling. Next thing you know they'll be doing math for us as well. Wow! Technology. Guy "still has 12:00 blinking on his VCR" Koepp And why does everyone else have a grey dot next to their name and I have a green one. The star bellied sneeches had stars upon thars. Guy "feeling left out" Koepp
Louise Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 ^ I THINK... Maybe... People who are currently online have a green dot, those who aren't have a grey one. Is this right? Can't be bothered going back to the main screen to check my theory. Macintosh people don't need a toolbar (although, it is available!). All you have to do, in any program, is click on "Edit" in the toolbar, and then "Spelling". It even has different languages, and dialects. Of course, I never use it, although I probably need to. I use a Mac but I don't have this... :?

robbalvey Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 You know...until Guy pointed it out, I don't think ever noticed the green/gray dot before!!!
Louise Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Ok well Robb, you have a green dot on my screen right now, but Guy's is grey, and according to the main screen you're online and he's not so... I'm thinking my guess was correct? Whoo, gold star for me! Louise "I feel special now!" R.
