Steveg1988 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I've never been on a looping coaster, i always chicken out by the time i get to the line. i was thinking that if i am going to "pop my cherry" might as well get as many inversions as possible. My canidate is the Sea Serpent at morey's piers in NJ, a traditional sit down boomerang with the newer cars, and i was thinking of following it up with the custom SLC they have (Fly-The Great Nor'easter) even tho it is known as a painful ride. Sadly i was out of state before i could ride the great american scream machine (many inversions, good for what may be my first and only looping experience, at least i could say i went upside down more than once) From what I've read, the sea serpent is a well maintained and supposedly fairly smooth example of a boomerang.
gerstlaueringvar Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Start with a great looper from Schwarzkopf, RMC or an old-school B&M! Boomerangs are not too special for your first coaster with inversions. But remember, Hades360 is not a place to get started!

The only B&M are at six flags near me, and they are a bit expensive to get to, plus the lines there make it really sucky
witting Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 heck yeah it would. My first inverting coaster was also a boomerang. I think they aren't that bad, I still have to ride my first B&M or intamin.
Steveg1988 Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 ^ Which Six Flags park is that? The legendary great adventure, which has my favorite coaster, the runaway mine train (tame, but a classic arrow non looper) and an arrow log flume, both dating to 1974

It could be a great start. Also, Bizarro at SFGAd has some historical value so that's not a bad choice either. Not saying that Boomerangs and SLCs are all crappy coasters but they are just not special enough to be your first coaster with inversions.

That sounds decent, also the BOomerang i was thinking about is the 1st in the USA and 2nd in the world
witting Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 could be first in USA but not first in the world because the first in the world is in mexico and the second in the world is in Belgium and I've ridden the second one.

Yeah it is the third, all 3 opened in 1984 so they're all about the same age. Probably the season in NJ starts later

rcjp Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I guess this all depends on what kind of experience you want to get. Let's say you take gerstlaueringvar's suggestion and go to Hershey, Pennsylvania: if you want to star with a great ride which you will always remember as your first, and rather intense, loping coaster you could do Storm Runner. If, on the other hand, you wish to start with a tamer ride you could try sooperdooperlooper which is very "peaceful" being the loop the only really exiting bit. It also depends on which rides you've already been on. You said you haven't tried a looping coasters but if you have been on an intense non-inveting one you would definitely have no problems doing an intense looping ride. For instance, the most intense ride, for me, at Hershey Park is skyrush which doesn't have inversions. If you feel comfortable about trying rides such as these, you could try anything. If you don't, there isn't necessarily a problem but maybe you should do a tamer looping coaster first, it all depends on what you're looking for.
tarheel1231 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 This inversion you are talking about is called a cobra roll and it is featured on the type of coaster called the Boomerang. I really guess it depends what coaster it is to start off with. EDIT: Never mind, I re-read your question. I would start off with a looping coaster before you make the leap to go upside down backwards.

I'd like SDL, perhaps i could head out there instead, never been to hershey pa.
rcjp Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 ^While not exactly a "memorable" ride, it is very good to star with, and the park itself is amazing, in my opinion. And then, if you feel confident, you have a wide range of more intense rides to try (including another boomerang) and some of the best coasters I've been on (talking about skyrush and storm runner).
Steveg1988 Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 ^While not exactly a "memorable" ride, it is very good to star with, and the park itself is amazing, in my opinion. If anything i can get a chocoalte tour out of it. SDL does have a bit of history, but it all depends on how finances work out, if it ends up being doable i will go there, if not wildwood is decently cheaper to get to and see. my plan C would be to see if i can win tickets to six flags great adventure again, i won some in 2012 on the radio, took my sister. Just had to pay 20 bucks for parking, she went on the green lantern and hated it (stand up coaster+5 foot tall sister). Bizarro or batman would be my coaster to go upside down on, depending on the lines at the time.
screaminkid2005 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 If I was you, I would just go to great adventure and ride bizarro. I've always thought it was a fun ride and it never really has a line because it's a people eater.

At great adventure what order would you reccomend doing the loops, i'd think batman would provide a good sampler
rcjp Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 ^Batman is very intense. Maybe you should do bizarro first. Superman is also okay but the flying position might not inspire a lot of confidence considering you've never been on a looping ride, you should do it though, just do bizarro first. Green lantern is somewhere in the middle batman being the most intense and having the most Gs.
Geauga Dog Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Batman is a good ride but it's also a bit on the intense side. If you're not ready for something like that then Bizarro would be the best choice. Plus Bizarro has seven inversions and once you've conquered them you can ride any looping coaster.
Steveg1988 Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Bizarro seems to tick the right boxes, smooth, lots of inversions, good places to catch your breath between em
julioot Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 First time is special enough, keep the good coasters for the next great experience.
IronWolfman Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I'd say Arrow corkscrew, but that's because my first looping coaster was the first modern looping coaster, Corkscrew at Silverwood.
yay101 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I don't think a Boomerang is a bad choice! Personally I'd go with a Wing Coaster like X-Flight or GateKeeper. 1.) They LOOK intense so the person would feel like they accomplished something and 2.) they're very smooth, non-intense rides. I think they are the best in my opinion.
