The name (and coaster type) actually pays homage to an older Virginia Reel-type coaster of the same name.

^I had a feeling it was an homage to a Coney Island classic, thanks so much for shedding light on it. Even though the face is an homage too, I still feel that pairing that face next to that name is kind of creepy.

Not gonna lie, The Smiler kind of freaks me out a little bit. It's that creepy music and the promos they had for it that did the trick.
