Flat Ride Identification

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Long time lurker here on TPR. I'm working on a book right now on Adventureland Long Island and have a few flat rides that I know the name of but cannot find the ride manufacturer or model for.

Please help me in identifying the few that I couldn't find on the Web.

Up first is the Moon Taxi.

Any ideas as to who manufactured it and what model it was?

That looks like a Satellite Jet. They were manufactured by Kasper Klaus, who also made the similar Roto Jet and Strato Jet. Not sure of the differences off-hand, but I know I've read about 'em somewhere. The Flat Joint shows one with a similar centerpiece.

Also, here's a "less fortunate" Satellite Jet operating at Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver.

I don't know when that photo was taken but when I visited in July the same two vehicles were missing.

Classic flat ride enthusiasts should be very happy that the Rock-O-Plane isn't in the same state.

Since I haven't been able to find this ride at - all - in either description or photos, here's

a rough drawing of this retro flat ride I remember at our annual fair in the late 1950s-1960s.

The top drawing is as it looks like when you see it. Think of it as a Minion on it's side.

But all metal, like its made of aluminum, flecked with what look like holes but were actually

lights for it. There's a front door that slides open. And ramp up to the door.

The middle drawing shows the inside of it. It is basically a portable haunted swing, with an

added feature inside, as the two seating circles also turn, while the whole structure is

spinning!

Third drawing, top view. It is a basic all metal haunted swing with spinning seats inside.

Anybody know what this was actually called, with any photos to match? Thanks in advance!
