I will be there!

I will have a booth, as I did last year!

This is myself with one of my mermaids:

At my booth, talking with a fan:

Here is a video of me testing the very first silicone tail that I made:

Here's a more recent tail:

Come check it out! It will be held at Hogan's Beach in Tampa. I believe it is around $30 for the 3 days of the event. Rooms at the resort are starting at $89 and up per night.

Robb, you should bring KidTums! I have a tail that she may be able to try out!

No, your customer(s). What you do is certainly not my thing, but if you can make a living from it, then more power to you. I just find it, well......an odd industry.

^Um no. You didn't just compare riding roller coasters (something that millions of people love doing worldwide) to people that like to dress like mermaids/merman?!?!? Not the same thing.

I think he meant being infatuated enough with it to discuss it on a forum, and he's right!

OK, I'm curious. How many people come to this gathering and how many dress the part? Are there more women then guys or is it pretty evenly split?

You need to do a photo trip report with all the people and there tails.

^I'm curious about that too. It's definitely not my thing, but it sure is fascinating to know there is a convention about it!

Actually, "Jew" live very close to the man who created the tail for Daryl Hannah in Splash!

Okay, I couldn't pass that up!

Here is an interview I did with a blogger and mermaid friend of mine.

I will post photos on my business Facebook page "Mermaid Creations LLC". Check out the few photos I have up of last years event.

^Post some of them here too! Give us a preview of the pictures and then link to your facebook update.

At least you can make a living from being a Mermaid. Brony's don't have any excuses!

I will post more photos.

Anyone wanting to attend the event it is $10 for a 1 day ticket, or $30 for all three days.

The convention is where all vendors of mermaid related items set up "booths", and show off their work. I obviously will be showcasing my mermaid / merman tails. Afterwards, there is a pool party (as I mentioned before).

Most people will probably be there that day only.

Sunday is a leisure day for everyone. Some mermaid outings to a couple of Florida springs were being discussed on a different forum. A chance for some out of state merfolk to be able to film or photograph in a natural, clear, underwater setting.

However, I may make a trip to BGT on Thursday prior to the event. (Gonna buy a 2 year Gold Pass)

Just curious about the business side of this, but how large of an industry is this? This is literally the first time I've ever heard of the mermaid industry, but from what you're saying, you and other people manage to make a living at this. I've got to assume that this is an exceptionally niche market, right?

This is both fascinating and terrifying at the same time.

Thanks for the offer to attend, but we'll be up at Cedar Point finishing up the Texas/Midwest trip. Maybe next time!

No problem at all...

It is put on by the person who organizes Gasparilla. I am sure it will be in Florida again next year.

A lot of the tails do look better out of the water. The deeper in the water the tail, the more distorted the visual becomes.

I am not sure how many tail companies there are in the states. I know I am one of the 4 most known.

Mermaid Rentals - (Created the Splash Tail)

Mermaid Creations - (My business)

Mertailor

FlipTails

The trade show is fun, and the pool party afterward is just a blast! If anyone is in the area, stop by and check it out.

How lucrative of an industry is it, if you don't mind sharing?

It pays for my half of the bills, and I don't have to leave my house except to take something to UPS. (or go to Kings Island or other parks.)

I also usually have "play" money left over to visit the theme parks, go out to a nice dinner, see a movie, etc.

Once I get to the point where I can afford (and trust) to hire someone, tails will go out faster. This will increase my sales. Until then, it's all me.

Where is Southern Steve when you need him? Would you rather be a Merman or have a leg amputated? Just an inside joke from the Scandi TPR Trip, where members debated odd life choices one might have to make.

I have a great sense of humor.

I actually think it is funny that the person made that statement about the "inside joke" and did not know that it was a true story.
