Hershey Park June 2013

Recommended Posts

So today was my first trip to Hershey Park for this year.

It was my second time ever at this park and I loved it, especially their new Intamin Hybrid Wing Coaster Skyrush.

This is my first time posting this kind of forum topic so be gentle ;D

I also want to apologize in advance for bad picture quality and bad picture quantity, I was so focused on riding roller coasters I didn't snap any good shots, when I go again in a few weeks I promise to make up for it!

Started the day off with an extra 15 minutes spent trying to find the entrance hahahah

IMG_0985.thumb.JPG.5165015c60a16c424b55eb6ddd2917df.JPG

This lift hill is made so much faster by the cable/elevator system and it really contributes to the experience.

This silhouette picture was cool looking imo

85 degrees kicked my ass. Literally, it was no where near the seat!

EJECTOR air time!

IMG_1004.thumb.JPG.3db9ee543c2bf8637d1e540121f6a518.JPG

This ride was so amazing in my opinion! A great addition to Hershey and another fabulous ride by Intamin!

IMG_1006.thumb.JPG.5b35248edcc5c0d883ede6c7991809b2.JPG

Okay this is my favorite/least favorite feature on this ride. While it gives some great lateral forces and an awesome view/feeling of weightlessness but it also whips you around pretty roughly if you ride on the outside.

IMG_1007.thumb.JPG.a4d3da93a06bf5909204896212881829.JPG

This path made for some awesome shots!!

IMG_1008.thumb.JPG.7de943da828bc13e1e34d1dbc07370ed.JPG

This ride really took advantage of its speed. It's almost in a way like a shorter Intimidator 305

IMG_1012.thumb.JPG.a44f4e8a96c349bb60f8c14c3e3434e3.JPG

Lightning racer was a fun little credit. Thunder was the only one winning today.

IMG_0989.thumb.JPG.3c700974245ae056de1f03a49ab97c96.JPG

Fahrenheit was lookin sexy with that 97 degree drop!

IMG_0993.thumb.JPG.ce69dc583e04b1e8f0b87a9e0743f2e0.JPG

That vertivle lift is an interesting feeling of helplessness.

So Skyrush blew your mind too? It's such an ordinary, run of the mill-looking coaster (yes, the trains and seating arrangement and restraints are unique, but I'm referring to the general appearance of the track and various elements) that gives no clue as to what the ride is really like. I can't wait to get back to HP this coming Monday, as I only got three rides on Skyrush the last time I was there a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, your pics aren't bad - all they really need is some brightening up (which of course can be done with various photo editing software).

Skyrush would be average if not for that fact that it hammers through its course at full throttle. From the time she leaves the station that baby is peddle to the metal and hammers through the layout blasting the airtime everywhere, it goes up there in some of my all time favorite coasters, another amazing job by Intamin!!

Can someone tell me why that word is banned? I'm so confused right now hahahah.

It was used too much in the whole looping wood coaster, Rocky Mountain rehab debate. Debating if they were wood of steel.

Glad you had fun!

And Skyrush is cool looking in my opinion along with I-305 alone with the lift hills. I agree last year Skyrush looked out of place but this year its starting to grow into the creek(vegetation) and it has a few new tree head choppers!

I cant wait to ride Skyrush some more on the 31st! It's such an intense ride! I also wanna take a TON more photos when I go again.

I am not an fan of Intamin by any means... I think their coasters are boring and one trick ponies.

Skyrush absolutely blows away any other Intamin that I have ridden, including I-305 and Millennium Forceless.

It completely blew me away! I actually look forward to the day when I can get back to HP to ride an Intamin!

How do you think I305 is boring and a one trick pony? It's the only coaster I've ever greyed out on!

MILLENNIUM FORCELESS? The negative g's on Milli especially on the first drop are some of the best and its sense of speed, while remaining crystal smooth, are what make it so amazing. I've never gotten to ride I305 so I can speak for it. Skyrush is an amazing ride but I still don't think it beat Millennium Force.

^Sorry to insult, but Skyrush poops on MF and so does I-305. I guess i could be considered a HP homer, but i try not to be too crazy, i give MF respect because of its record breakingness but it is by no means an intense coaster. The airtime just passes for floater and the only positive g moment i felt was on the first overbank. I rode MF 8 times on my trip in June and have been on Skyrush 47 times this year. Skyrush is insane compared to MF and I-305 is just as crazy.

First Drop-Skyrush (totally insane for only a 212ft hill)

Length and Speed-MF

Airtime-Skyrush

+G's-Skyrush

Lateral G's-Skyrush

Thats one thing i think is very underrated about Skyrush, the lateral g's are crazy! From the curving bottom of the hill, the Stengel Dive, the awkward hill after the Stengel Dive, the twisty, then the turn around over Comet.

I would take Skyrush over MF any day abd every day

^ I went to Hershey in 2011, so I never got to ride Skyrush, which is obviously an amazing ride, but I've ridden MF and I305 and I like them both about the same. It's hard for me imagine any coasters being that much better than those two, since I've been on a lot of the best coasters in the country.

The lateral forces are insane and I WILL admit the Millennium Force does not compete in that aspect. I'm a sucker for floater airtime though, that's part of why I actually like Steel Force at Dorney Park. I think Millennium Force is just a better ride as far as an overall experience. I got off of Skyrush thinking "damn, that was intense and I wanna ride it again, and that was after riding I think around 33 other coasters and well over 150 credits combined on them maybe it was something that while it stands out I think I've ridden better. It's for sure a top 3 but I think Millennium Force still blows me away. When I stepped off of MF the only thought I could have was "That was the best roller coaster I have ever ridden.' If I could ride them both within like the same week I think I could give a more honest rating without my Millennium Force beer goggles.

I'll put it this way, every roller coaster I ride I now rate based on living up to Millennium Force.

To me, there's no real reason to compare them. I don't give a lot of thought to which I like better since they're so different. Millenium Force is all about height, speed, and that feeling of moving through so much space in such a small amount of time. Skyrush is all about raw intensity and power. They're both trying to do different things, and they both succeed greatly. Some people dislike Millenium Force because they rate coasters based almost solely on how much force it exerts on the body. To me that's pretty arbitrary and nobody should feel bad if they don't rate them the same way.

The enthusiast community feels it has to rank every coaster in existence against every other coaster on a linear, "this is better than that" list, the only differentiation being between wooden and steel, when in reality there's a much wider spectrum than that. It would be like comparing a luxury sedan to a sports car, which you think is better will depend entirely on whether you want a luxury sedan or a sports car, and some people will want both.

So yesterday I returned to good ol Hershey Park!

I had a great time. It was a rather busy day so the lines got a LITTLE annoying but otherwise it was an awesome day. The weather was overcast but held out the entire time I was there. Only coaster I didn't get to ride that I wanted to was Fahrenheit. The wait was about an hour and a half and I thought that was too much.

Finally got to try Skyrush in the front row and again chose to ride on the winged seat. It was my best ride on the coaster yet and solidifies its position as my second favorite coaster on the planet.

I decided to take better advantage of this awesome path where you can see all of Skyrush

This airtime hill felt even more intense today!

IMG_1738.thumb.JPG.bd37704d070a25957f7c57d0ebfb0682.JPG

The ride gets insanely close to the ground which really shakes the surrounding area with the rides intense roar and vibration.

Headchopper air time hill is equally as awesome as the first!

I love this Stengel Dive!

85 degrees is certainly intense and one of the steeper drops of our area.

Generic airtime hill photo.

The lateral forces on the twisted horseshoe roll are amazing.

The best seat on Great Bear I think is the back on the far left.

All the coasters at Hershey Park are amazing and spectacular except Great Bear. I have been on so many B&M inverts and this one did not do anything special for me. I much rather ride Montu or Talon or another B&M. The best coasters at Hereshey in my opinion are Lightning Racer, Fahrenheit, StormRunner and SkyRush. I love StormRunners launch. It is by far my favorite intamin accelerator.

I feel like Great Bear has an awesome start but falls short after the Zero-G roll. I still think Raptor has to be my favorite B&M Invert I' have ridden to date. Talon I have ridden so many times it's lost its luster but it will always be the first roller coaster I ever rode. Never have been to Busch Gardens Florida so I have not yet ridden Montu.

Lightning Racer is great, but I prefer Wildcat, it's really rough and fast. It's my favorite wooden coaster for a reason hahahahah. Storm Runner is GREAT fun! Fahrenheit is a good ride but not very forceful in my opinion. Skyrush is second in my mind only to Millennium Force.

IMO Great Bear suffers from what many of the coasters at HP suffer from - being too short! I don't get all the hate for it (never rode Montu but I did ride Talon, sadly don't recall much about it because I was pretty queasy and trying not to toss my cookies); it isn't intense like some of the B&M inverts like Afterburn and Raptor, but I still like it quite a bit. It also (for me, especially) has a great deal of re-rideability - I can marathon on Great Bear but can only ride Raptor maybe three times in a row. The other bad thing is that GB always seems to have an un-naturally long line, even when the park isn't that crowded. Generally B&M inverts are quick to load and unload, but for some reason GB's line seems to be way longer than it should be.
