boardwalkbullet91507 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I figured this could have been a thread of it's own rather than on the SFAW thread. If Six Flags Astroworld wouldn't have closed, what would it be like today? What would be new? What rides would have been retired? To start off, I think that the XLR-8 would have been retired due to it being at the end of it's life-span, and maybe SWAT. Maybe new trains on Batman? I read on an Astroworld forum that Goliath at Six Flags La Ronde would have been new for 2006 at Astroworld! Ultimately, they were planning for the closure of the park rather than a new ride. What are ya'lls opinions?
JonnyRCT3 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Some more flats, maybe a new small coaster or two. A SkyScreamer and maybe a decent water-park.
Rollercoaster Rider Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 ...maybe a decent water-park. They already had a decent size waterpark. It was called Waterworld.
ViperLover Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 I agree that SWAT would be removed. Six Flags has shown that they will get rid of troublesome rides. Also, Ultra Twister, Warp 2000, Wagon Wheel, and Looping Starship would be removed because of age and other reasons.
Sammy* Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 SFA would not be considered the hand me down park if Astro World was still open. Its shame cause Astro World had a lot of potential

Its shame cause Astro World had a lot of potential Agreed. The park was real diverse. It had an awesome woodie, a standup, a suspended, whatever ultra twister was, an indoor, and the bamboo chute was an awesome flume! Their schwarzkopf had a freaking tunnel!I just wish they would have given it a few more years. Especially in a city as busy as Houston, that park could have have been amazing.
ArundelHigh Coasters Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) I've never been there, but from what it looked like, I think the park is similar to SFA, and SFstl . I think we would have seen a re-located coaster there, probably Batwing from SFA. I also think a SkyScreamer would have went there, maybe actually a nice new coaster like Superman from SFDK too, and maybe a Bonzai Pipelines for the water park. I am sad that they shut it down, they should have just sold it to another chain... Edited November 13, 2012 by ArundelHigh Coasters

Which is why in 2012, SFGAm got a brand new B&M wing coaster, SFDK got a brand new Premier launcher, and SFA got a 20 year old stand up (after 11 years without a new coaster, or much of anything really)... Yeah, SFA definitely hasn't been neglected by the chain [sarcasm] Back on topic though, I wish I could have gotten to Astroworld. Having three Schwarzkopfs was pretty impressive, and the park had some good potential.
boardwalkbullet91507 Posted November 13, 2012 Author Posted November 13, 2012 ^^^ Two Schwarzkopfs... PLUS another with a *cough*cough tunnel. That tunnel was awesome.
johnychen Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 ^ Here's a picture of all three of them at once. Viper, Greezed Lightnin, and Texas Tornado. www.coastergallery.com/2001/AW20.html
XYZ Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 If Six Flags AstroWorld was open today, it would have two Schwarzkopfs as Texas Tornado was removed in 2002, 3 years before the park shut down. It would've been nice to see SFAW open today. If it was still open, I could see them replacing XLR-8 with a larger attraction like a B&M Floorless or something.
boardwalkbullet91507 Posted November 13, 2012 Author Posted November 13, 2012 ^^^ I thought B&M too because Astroworld never had one. Well, they had an Intamin standup, but that's the closest they had. Rumored a B&M hyper in '06 but they closed the park. The land XLR-8 was on was a very large plot of land, enough for a large coaster. Although the park could have opted to keep XLR-8. In my opinion, it was aging well despite the squeaky trains in its final months.
Sammy* Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Astroworld was completely shot for room. It would have taken way more than Ultra twister removal for room for a large coaster. Ultra Twister was okay ride and ubique. I would gave much rather seen Barman the standup go
Sir Clinksalot Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Actually, with the new stadium for the Texans there, I think the park would have actually improved, much like what we will hopefully be seeing out of CGA with the new 49ers stadium. They had a couple of really fun rides, one highly unique coaster and from what I could tell, some room for expansion if they wanted to. Granted, I only went there once and only for a few hours during their last operating season.
larrygator Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) It is pointless to speculate about a defunct park and certainly doesn't need a dedicated thread. Edited November 13, 2012 by larrygator
