outbackjack Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Going for the first time this year. A few questions for the expert..... 1. Thinking of a Wed/Thur 2 day visit, are those days lighter than others in July? 2. Should I pay more and stay on site.....are the benefits worth the extra $? 3. What ride should I hit first/longest line throughout the day? 4. What's one "can't miss" that's not an obvious one? 5. Any food recommendations.....we usually like air cinditioned and reasonably inexpensuve. Thanks in advance, Outback
outbackjack Posted April 5, 2011 Author Posted April 5, 2011 Should have mentioned that we are on a semi-budget....might help with some answers. And if you have any other secrets that I won't know, please pass them along. Thanks
SenseOFone Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Only one I can answer is you can't miss Wildcat. A small, old coaster, but so amazing. Dare I say, better than Millennium
Buckeye_Ben Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Wednesday and Thursday should be fine, you'll have more than enough time to do everything. You can probably knock out most of the big rides on Wednesday, then Thursday can be for the stuff you missed and rerides on your favorites. I've never stayed on property at CP, so I can't help you there. As far as rides are concerned, Top Thrill Dragster is notoriously prone to breakdowns, although it's gotten better the past few years. It will have a pretty consistent line the whole day (1 hour or so at least). Maverick also breaks down somewhat frequently, and will probably have a decent wait the whole time (45+ mins). Definitely head toward the back of the park first, as the rides at the front get mobbed when the park opens (especially Raptor). Gemini is a hidden gem tucked near the back of the park, and Disaster Transport is fun in an extremely cheesy, goofy way, plus it's indoors. Blue Streak might be the most underrated coaster in the park. I second the recommendation of WildCat. All the flat rides are fun, and most of them typically have short lines as everyone flocks to the roller coasters. Food at CP is not their strong suit. The food for the most part is very expensive, and most of it isn't very good. Unfortunately with the location of the park, it's kind of a pain to drive into Sandusky and get fast food. There's a TGI Friday's and Famous Dave's BBQ outside the park on the peninsula. Inside the park, Midway Market is a good value for the money, especially at lunch, and Johnny Rockets is pretty good. Most of the walk-up places have shaded areas to eat, but Chick-fil-A and Coasters Drive-In have limited seating inside. I would highly suggest bringing a water bottle or buying one at the park and refilling it throughout the day, as drinks will set you back around $4 a meal, and vending machines are $3. I'm by no means an expert, but I hope this helps. Have fun up there!

Reasonably priced????????? Yes, those will be the lightest ("lightest" used loosely) days at that time, as long as there are no events. 2. I would say so. It's extremely convenient. 3. Maverick, TTD, and Millennium Force. Try to hit all three as quick as soon as possible, because you never know with break-downs, crowds, etc.. 4. Besides the usual MF, TTD, and Maverick, there are a few...Raptor, Mantis, MaXair, Skyhawk, Gemini, Magnum, Wicked Twister. Just walk around and anything else that looks like fun, ride it! 5. The sports grille by Raptor is decent. Or you could always go back to the Breakers and eat at TGI Fridays (doesn't matter if you are staying there or not). Edited April 5, 2011 by FeelTheFORCE
coasterlover420 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 1. Yes 2. Yes. Especially since the next answer is: 3. Maverick, Millennium, Dragster. If you stay on site, it will be really easy to knock these down in the first two hours. Dragster is not open early though, so you just have to get to it quickly. Everything after that is pretty random. Raptor's line tends to be long, but depending on the crew, a long line doesn't mean a long wait. Everything else should be easy. 4. I agree with Wildcat, actually, but don't leave out any classics. Gemini, DT, Iron Dragon... All worth it in my opinion. Also, if you'll want to ride Windseeker, I would suggest planning that into the day since it will most likely be quite popular. 5. DO NOT EAT AT CEDAR POINT! Hahaha that's the only answer. There is fast food not too far that saves a ton of money, just get your hand stamped and come back to the park after lunch. However, stay away from the McDonalds on cedarpoint dr. It is disgusting. P.S. come say hi! I'll be working Wicked Twister all summer!
aimster Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 My can't miss recommendations are Gemini & Cedar Downs.
B.A.B Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 You can't miss Top Thrill Dragster,Maverick,Magum XL-200,Raptor,Mantis, and of course Mean Streak. But if you ride Mean Streak ride it in the front only. The front doesn't hurt at all, trust me I rode Mean Streak 9 times in the row becuase I had an great ride in the front.
Reality15 Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 1. Wednesdays/Thursdays are going to be lighter, but don't expect light crowds. You'll still have wait times around or above an hour for all of the major coasters. At the same time, two days will be enough to ride everything you want, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. 2. Staying on-site is great, after having done it for the first time last year. I've been visiting the park my entire life, and just finally stayed on-site. Well worth the money we payed for it. 3. I'd recommend hitting a lower-capacity ride first, like Wicked Twister or Mantis. But again, since you have two days, I wouldn't worry that much about it and just do whatever you want whenever, and focus more on having a good time than riding rides. 4. My big don't miss is Paddlewheel Excursions. It's my favorite after-lunch/need a break ride. I've never missed it in ANY of my visits to the park. 5. Stick to the chain restaurants. Famous Dave's is easily the best restaurant at the park. TGI Fridays and Chic-fil-a are okay. Food isn't all that good at Cedar Point, nor in the city of Sandusky, actually. Chet & Matt's south of the park just off 250 is DELICIOUS, but other than that I think the best food I had in Sandusky were the brats I grilled at Lighthouse Point.
outbackjack Posted April 6, 2011 Author Posted April 6, 2011 Thanks so much..this has been incredibly helpful. Because of this, I am definitely staying on site, knowing to hit the big 3 early each day. I guess I'll just have to suck it up as far as food....oh well. I'm most excited about Cedar Downs, Paddelwheel Excursions, Wildcat, etc. How about the Antique Car Rides, I heard they have 3. Are they the same or does one stand out? Also, how is the train ride?
Reality15 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 They do have three car rides, the Turnpike Cars, Cadillac Cars and Antique Cars. I'm not personally a fan of car rides, but the Turnpike Cars and Cadillac Cars are the better of the three, in my opinion. The Turnpike Cars at least have an interesting layout and scenery to look at, and the Cadillac Cars get you right up and close to Raptor. The train is just like any other park train, really. It's cool because you get up close to Millennium Force, Maverick, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Shoot the Rapids and Mantis, and on the way from the Frontiertown station to Funway station (main midway), there's Boneville (skeleton town and displays) to look at. I spent two weeks back in 2007 working as a conductor on the train, so my enthusiasm for it is a bit quelled, but it serves its purpose and is another great way to relax, just like Paddlewheel Excursions. Also, if you like to take pictures, they opened a new relaxation area right outside the Paddlewheel Excursions dock that gets you close to the drop on Top Thrill Dragster.
