The multi-million dollar exclusive partnership agreement spans 11 markets, includes multi-platform branding through in-park and online media, and provides Discover cardmembers with money-saving benefits and exclusive experiences. "Many of our cardmembers are already big fans of theme parks, so this partnership with Six Flags, the world's largest regional theme park company, is a terrific benefit," said Julie Loeger, senior vice president of brand and product management at Discover. "Plus, delivering value is part of Discover's DNA, and that's exactly what cardmembers will find through the rewards and benefits in this program." The core of the program is a five percent instant discount incentive for Six Flags park guests and their families when they use a Discover card, in-park or online, to make purchases of admission tickets and season passes, as well as food, retail, games and attractions. "This partnership with Discover will provide more individuals and families the incentive and opportunity to share the Six Flags experience at parks across the country," said David McKillips, senior vice president of Corporate Alliances for Six Flags Media Networks, the media and sponsorship sales division of Six Flags Entertainment. "It's the broadest in scope we've ever had with a credit card company, and we're proud to welcome Discover to the family of exclusive Six Flags partners." Additional benefits of the partnership for Discover cardmembers include: -- A family four-pack of tickets for $99 (May to June; September to mid-October 2010) -- A Discover-branded gate providing cardmembers an expedited entrance experience -- Discover-branded family meal packages at significant savings -- Exclusive access to "Coasters After Dark" events for Discover cardmembers, allowing them to enjoy the parks after regular operating hours on select dates throughout the season -- "Discover Preview Days," which Six Flags will host starting in 2011, where Discover cardmembers will have special access to parks at a discounted price, before the official Opening Day To promote this partnership, Six Flags has launched an extensive merchandising program, featuring point-of-sale signage and verbal promotion of the five percent instant discount for Discover cardmembers at most transaction locations throughout Six Flags parks. Online branding and promotion will be featured on Six Flags' Print-n-Go purchasing website. In addition, Discover will receive promotion via a variety of media channels inside the parks, ranging from Six Flags' digital out-of-home (DOOH) network to driveway signage, pole banners, billboards and scrolling signage. The DOOH Network, recently organized under a new division within Six Flags Media Networks, includes Six Flags Jumbotron Network; Six Flags Menu Board TV, a new digital offering from Six Flags Media Networks in key food and retail areas at the parks; and the Six Flags Television Network, a system of 550-plus monitors at rides and in other strategic locations. CorkscrewFoley Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Discover just how fast you lose your money at any Six Flags park...sorry, I had to...
fatdaddy Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Discover how bad your credit is when they reject you. So, I guess there will be those guys who try to mug you with a credit car application somewhere in the parks.
KevinM Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 ^The Discover promotion has been going on all season. There are lots of signs, audio announcements, and cashiers "remind" customers of the 5% discount for using Discover. However, I have not seen one Discover representative in the park (Great America) attempting to sign up new members. This may change, but I haven't seen it yet.
fatdaddy Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 ^Come to think of it, they did ask if i had a Discover card when I payed, just didn't put 2 and 2 together.
Sir Clinksalot Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Wow, the Discover card is still around? Who knew.
Houston Thrills Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I use mine every time I buy something at SFOT for the 5% discount, I kinda like it.
disneyfan1313 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Why do I have the feeling that the next corporate alliance that Six Flags will announce is with the Guinness Book of World Records to announce they broke the record for "Largest Amount of Corporate Tie-Ins in a Theme Park".
fatdaddy Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Save 5 % at like 17% interest or something like that, what a great deal. They call it Discover, because you have to go exploring to discover somewhere that accepts it.
Houston Thrills Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I pay off my cards every month, so I never run into interest, I get cash back. 5% discount + cash back, sounds good to me. During July, Discover is offering 5% cash back on any purchases made at amusement parks.
fatdaddy Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Though it may be accepted at Six Flags, it is not accepted at BIg Pete's House of Munch.
larrygator Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Why do I have the feeling that the next corporate alliance that Six Flags will announce is with the Guinness Book of World Records to announce they broke the record for "Largest Amount of Corporate Tie-Ins in a Theme Park". Disney currently holds that record, right?
cfc Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 ^How about "Largest Number of Corporate Tie-ins for an Amusement Park Chain that also Features Obnoxious Commercials on Video Screens Everywhere"?
haiderodes Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I love the Discover Card promotion and have been taking advantage of it since January. So far this year I have used the special entrances at SFMM, SFA, SFDK, SFA and SFNE. They really come in handy, especially at those parks without a special season passholder entrance. The best part about the discount side of this partnership is that besides it being automatic when they swipe your card, its combinable with your season pass discount on merchandise so you are essentially get 20%! And the 5% comes in handy with food purchases since you usually dont get a season pass discount on those. I just dont get why they waited until now to promote this whole "official credit card thing". One would think with all the branding in the parks already (especially at SFGAdv) it was a given.
tntornadox Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 The great irony in all of this is Six Flags actually offers it's OWN BRANDED CREDIT CARD through Chase... it's a MasterCard. You earn 6 points per dollar spent at Six Flags and 1 everywhere else. Apparently they FORGOT about this when signing this 'alliance'.

fatdaddy Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 ^Point is that most people don't pay off their balance every month, that's why they are using cards in the first place. Then they see a discount and forget they have to pay interest, especially younger people who don't know how to manage their money yet. That's why there are a million commercials to fix your credit on every channel. I'll just use my ATM as a credit card, the money comes right out of my account, and considering i use it for everything else I'd rather add to my rewards point than get 5 cents on the dollar.

I thought this exact same thing when I first started seeing the in-park ads and whatnot this year. I wonder how many folks out there actually have that Six Flags branded card - especially considering Chase (which is my main bank), has so many other rewards options.

Apparently they didn't because I can't find anywhere online to apply for the Chase Six Flags Mastercard
