I'll first post the pics, then post the track files

 

 

We had an awesome response and will start a new competition in a week

 

but first, lets pick a winner for this challenge

 

The entries will be listed with the name of the coaster, and the creator, if you want to see the ratings, you need to go back to the submission thread

 

Voting will be completed on 8-20-05, and hopefully we will post the next challenge by then

I voted for Komodo. I like the fact that it's the only entry that didn't break up the lift or do anything weird with it. It just shows that you can work great stats out of a small ride.

Fun stuff. Some damned impressive entrys I must say. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Heck if I only get a few votes it will still be ok. I mean that means someone else thought my ride was impressive. I gotta encourage people to ride some of the RCT3 ones though. Some of them are very nice.

Um... I dunno about this... This poll is showing quite clearly that it seems that RCT2 and RCT3 entries can't exist together... I mean there are some RCT2 entries running away with it... Why? Heck if I know. They look a bit cleaner in screenshots but honestly the layouts aren't THAT much better than the others.

 

I think unfortunately the RCT2 tracks just look cleaner as they are completely pre-rendered and don't have to be economic on the polygons like RCT3. The supports especially suffer.

^ I agree. Couldn't have said it better mayself. But I think people are voting for their favourite person and not their favourite coaster. Maybe in future contests, the coasters should be displayed without the designer's names next to them. I dunno.

 

And I'm not only saying this because I only have 2 votes myself, I had lots of fun helping Simon and Chris organise this, so really I would like to see other people win it. I just wish I could have entered my Toilet Coaster!

I agree with you for the most part, the track designs across all entries were good and varied and for the first couple days it was a pretty even split across the board. All the entries are very good.

 

I am fairly resistant to the idea of splitting RCT2 and 3 entries because it seperates the participants in a contest that should be bringing them together. I guess we have to wait and see how this turns out, there are still a few days of voting left!

 

I tried to make the screenshots as fair as possible by using the Isometric Camera in RCT3 to match the RCT2 display. But you are right that the RCT2 coasters appear crisper, For the most part due to the 2D pre-rendered nature of the coaster pieces.

 

As for why the surge on the Pink Panther and Komodo, only the TPR members that voted know. Perhaps there is just something appealing about them.

But I think people are voting for their favourite person and not their favourite coaster. Maybe in future contests, the coasters should be displayed without the designer's names next to them. I dunno.

Well I would hope that people would be fair and vote based on appearance and how they like the coaster rather than who made it. But people will choose by whatever criteria they want to use. It's our (myself and crispys) job to try to make these contests as fair as possible so we'll take onboard everything that's happened and suggestions made during this contest and use them to improve the next.

 

Overall though I am REALLY impressed with both the quality and amount of entries for this contest. It is really inspiring to see so many people take time out to create something for this. I only hope we can improve these contests over time to provide varied and fun challenges for the community.

I also agree to not allow restrictions on entries or separate entries based on the version of the program used. Would it be cool to render the RCT2/RCT1 coasters in RCT3 and have all images come from RCT3? It should remove the differences between the way the three RCT games are displayed. It would make all coasters equal as far as image quality goes. I haven't tried to import older coasters into the newer RCT3, so I don't know if some aspects of the coaster would be lost.

That is definitely an option imdrunk, although we really shouldn't need to do that. There are some issues with importing coasters into RCT3 though, most work but occasionally you'll find one that uses pieces that aren't in RCT3 so it fails.

 

But as you say, this is the first contest and we'll definitely learn from it.

Just the amount of interest this first contest has produced has been a really great experience.

 

Hopefully we can keep this interest and momentum involved going forwards!

I think there are a few tracks that are much better than mine! However, everyone can vote what ever he want!

I hope that the next contest will be more balanced.

Anyway, I think for the first contest it is not to bad. We have a lot of good entries and it was really fun. I think we all can learn a lot from this first contest and make a few things here and there better.

Nevertheless, I want to say it again: Thanks you very much Chris and Simon for this first contest. I know you had a lot of work, and I think it was worth the thing!

Hey Sören, thanks for the kind words. Both myself and crispy have really enjoyed doing this.

 

There are some great coaster entries in the contest, yours included Sören and I'd hate for anyone to think reading these comments that you or Eyemthu1 don't deserve to win, because you do, both of your entries are great.

 

I can't explain the disparity between the amount of votes for the coasters. But I guess that's how voting goes. I'm personally really surprised that imdrunks coaster (Below Zero) and Mrs_Chickenlegs coaster (Icelandic Rattler) haven't had more votes. Those two in particular are my favourites.

 

This contest has been a really interesting and fun thing. I hope people have enjoyed participating and will continue to participate in future contests.

OK, there is not alot we can do, but I am dissapionted with everyone if its true, people should vote for the one they like the best, not by who made it, I did that, its not that hard
