My Review of Canyon Blaster

Recommended Posts

While I was in Las Vegas several weeks ago for spring break, me and a friend--who actually won a car on "The Price is Right"--decided to take a trip to the AdventureDome at Circus Circus to take in some thrills. Now, we both experienced the Rim Runner, which was a pretty decent water ride, but when it came to riding Canyon Blaster, he decided to chicken out--leaving me to tackle the 2,423 feet long coaster by myself.

I boarded the train, and the first thing I thought to myself was "where the hell is the seatbelt on this thing?" I knew I was screwed the moment the shoulder bars went down: here I was, on an Arrow-built corkscrew coaster for the first time, about to go up the chain lift, and all the while I tried to avoid swearing and cussing up a storm. Unfortunately, the four-letter obscenities that start with "s" popped out as soon as the coaster lurched--and I say lurched even thought I sat in the front-left seat--into its first drop and loop. One loop and a double corkscrew later, I'm screaming my happy butt off until I get to the station, and when I got off the thing, I was dizzy for a few minutes.

So, what did I think about Canyon Blaster? Well, for a guy that doesn't like things that go upside-down, this was actually a pretty decent coaster experience. Even though I banged my head on the back of the seat during the double loop, the ride felt really smooth. I enjoyed all the screaming and swearing, and I probably would love to ride it again.

OVERALL SCORE: 3/5

Canyon Blaster is a pretty good ride for its size. Of the four Arrow custom looping coasters I've been on, it's probably my favorite (barely better than Viper). It is a little rough, but isn't that bad compared to most other similar coasters. Of the four coasters in the Vegas area, however, I would only rank it third. Speed is the best by far, and Desperado is a pretty good ride if you are in the middle seat of a car. The Roller Coaster (aka Manhattan Express) looks like it would be fun but is rough and not that interesting.

I think Canyon Blaster is a great coaster. It is my favorite in the Vegas area. It used to be 2nd to Desperado but Desperado is so rough now, compared to when it was newer, that I now find it painful to ride.

My Vegas area ranking would be:

1. Canyon Blaster. Smooth, fun and exciting. Great airtime after the second loop.

2. Roller Coaster/"Manhattan Express". Dive loop is my favorite part. I know many people say it is too rough but I have not noticed that.

3. Speed. Great launch. Short but fun.

4. Desperado. Great first drop and airtime. I used to really like it but now I find it very rough and painful.

Canyon Blaster... yes I remember while I was in Las Vegas 1993. I enjoyed the ride, but it was short and a little bit rough, like the most coaster at this time. It was the only coaster while my family and I visited Las Vegas, so it was a great pleasure to find one

I didn't have a chance to get to Canyon Blaster on my recent trip to Vegas. I actually discounted it and put it last on my list. I wasn't too disappointed that I skipped it. It sounds like I will definitely have to get on it the next time I am out there.

who actually won a car on "The Price is Right"

That's really cool! What kind of car are they giving away these days? When I was there in '04, it was a Chevy Cobalt. Is Roger "Blind Date" Lodge still the host?

Jason "I overbid by $200 and only won a crappy T-shirt" R.

^ never knew Roger Lodge hosted Price is Right, right now the host is Drew Carey and he seams to be getting fatter with each episode lol, one of these days he's going to yell come on down and fall down not be able to get back up and have to be rolled off the stage lol

I also love CB I rode that thing over and over one day at least 20+ times, the only time I had to get off was when/if someone was waiting for my seat, I don't find it near bout as rough as Viper, Viper isn't all that rough to me either until it gets to the batwing and that turn into the corks.

Right, Drew Carey hosts the "real" Price is Right, but there is (or was) also a Vegas stage show version (which I assume is what TexasGiant is talking about since it's a Vegas TR, though I could be wrong). That's the one I was on, and Roger Lodge hosted it at the time.

I took a spin on the Vegas coasters last month. i would also say that Canyon Blaster in my favorite of the three I rode. Except for the turn transition after the 2nd loop, the ride was not too rough, and the track weaving in and out of the dome's structures was very cool.

Speed was fun. Kinda short. Manhattan Express was just torture.

^Glad you had a good ride on Manhattan Express. I was there about 6 months ago and had the worst ride ever. The pain to my head was almost as bad as the pain to my wallet

Yes, it is expensive, but they had an offer at Adventuredome where if you bought an all day pass you got a 2-for-1 offer for Manhattan Express. I wanted to ride all the coasters since I knew I would not be back for a while. Unfortunately, Speed was closed that day. I went to Adventuredome from 10:30pm to midnight and rode Canyon Blaster 7 times, Disk-O 3 times, Sand Pirates once and Slingshot once. The next afternoon I rode Manhattan Express twice and Desperado twice on my way home. This was in July, 2008.

Does Canyon Blaster have an "Arrow Magic Seat"? Or is that unique to Viper.

Not that I have ever noticed, however the experience in the front vs. the back of the train are completely different.

If I'm only going for 1 ride, which seat should I pick then?
