Well, a press release really doesn't cost the park any money.

You have to pay the PR people. It is likely that parks have made cutbacks in their PR departments and existing PR employees are overwhelmed.

Just wondering, how much effort goes into a press release? Let's go bare bones and say...text and a ride logo, nothing like Intimidator's website.

^As someone that has been paid to write a press release, a lot more than what you think. Writing a release is a much more specialized skill than people think it is, at least to put together a good one. Plus, a press release for any large corporation has to have a LARGE number of people sign off on it, including lawyers. Especially if it's a publicly traded company.

I really haven't been following any of this "new SF" stuff, but I'd guess not press releases have been issued because this time of year is a horrible time to release news. The holidays just ended. Give them a chance.

Effort into a press release?

The true cost of releasing a press release is the back end cost of paying your pr staff.. Utilities, insurance, salaries, etc. Actual cost of creating a press release without graphics or photos is essentially 0. You type up a press release in word, convert to pdf, then upload it to any of the numerous PR wire services. If you require photos its graphic designer or photog fees. After that you speak with your media contacts to push the article in an editorial format (convince someone to write a newspaper article based on the press release).

Edit on meteornotes: If your lawyers work on retainer with prepaid fees this isn't a cost.. If that isn't the case, than excellent point.

All the announcements will probably be made in March or late February. SFNE is getting a little water park expansion, which I was told by Six Flags today, via twitter, that the announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

Let's count what attractions are actually being added to the Six Flags chain this year, shall we?

-A rollerskater.

-A small kiddie wood coaster.

-Some small water park expansions.

-An SLC for La Ronde.

-Small little shows here and there.

Thus, it's easy to see why the ride announcements have been "slacking": There aren't that many new rides to begin with! Honestly, I have a feeling that the three coasters will get some press (with a nice release already out for Little Dipper), but everything else is not exactly something that will pack 'em through the turnstiles, so to speak, so press releases won't be necessary.

(Forgive me if I missed any rides...)
