Homeboy23 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I am sitting in my hotel room after just getting out of Holiday World. This was my first time visiting this park. I started out the day at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, which was also my first time. I arrived there before opening and while everyone was waiting this employee was showing everyone his dance moves which kept the crowd entertained while waiting, which is a good thing. All the credits plus re-rides were done within the first hour of being there. After the first hour of everything being basically a walk on, all of a sudden every ride had 15 minute plus wait time. After hitting some flats and getting something to eat, it was time to go to Holiday World. The path there led me straight to the Voyage, could not wait so I hit that first. Got two rides there and went back to the Legend and Raven both riding twice. And then once again hitting the Voyage. Pilgrims Plunge was next and it didn't disappoint, I don't know why it's getting bad reviews, I did get soaked. Like my time at Kentucky Kingdom after I got off the plunge every line in the park turned from 5 minute waits to 15 minute plus waits. Guess it was just my luck. I will post the pictures when I return from my trip, probably around Wednesday. Edit: Can't believe I forgot to say this. Voyage is now my #1 wooden coaster passing Phoenix. I didn't think anything was going to top it, but after my first ride today I knew it. My back was starting to hurt even while riding but the way the Voyage throws you around makes the ride incredible.
Electerik Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Interesting. I'll probably be doing pretty much the same thing on Monday and Tuesday. I've been to Holiday World several times, but I'm really struggling with whether to finally give SFKK a shot or just spend both days at HW.
Homeboy23 Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 It was an alright park but nothing special. Most of the employees had smiles on there faces and were all very outgoing. The rides all sucked though, they really need something that stands out. Tomorrow I'll be at Kings Island and on Monday at Cedar Point.
spaceace12 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Erik....Goto SFKK if you are in it for the credits and get out. Chang is easily the best coaster in the park, the rest are okay. Then spend a day and half at HW.
Electerik Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 ^ Yeah, well, I'm not much of a credit whore. But the idea of going to a park I've never been to is pretty appealing. I'm just not sure what I would be going there for. ^^ Yeah, that's kind of my issue. There's nothing really at the park (that I've seen) that jumps out at me. On the other hand, I've never been. But I know Holiday World is good. So maybe I should just spend two days there. Decisions, decisions. Anyway, thanks for the TR. /I'll probably check it out.
CoasterCard Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 ^I would say at least give SFKK a couple hours. Chang is pretty good and I really like Thunder Run and Greased Lightning. If you can head there for the beginning of the first day like OP did, I would say go for it. Most of HW can be covered in a little over half a day, leaving plenty of time for Voyage re-rides and the waterpark the second day.
DiSab Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 But the idea of going to a park I've never been to is pretty appealing. I'm not that much of a credit whore either, but like you said, the ides of getting to a park I haven't been to is always appealing. If I were you, I would probably go to SFKK early the first day, leave around noon or 1 (or whenever you've ridden everything you want to) and stay at HW the rest of the time. A day and a half, like I'm sure you know, is plenty of time at HW, with time to get to the water park for a few hours if its warm enough.
DBru Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Erik, do you like water parks/slides? Deluge is amazing. Mega Wedgie is pretty darn good, as well.
PKI Jizzman Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 But I know Holiday World is good. So maybe I should just spend two days there. Decisions, decisions. Anyway, thanks for the TR. /I'll probably check it out. Erik, Yes, Holiday World is GOOD...their coasters are great! But..they don't have much else. I would advise against not doing two days, there just isn't enough to do! I know I would be bored on the second day, unless lines were horrible. 3 Coasters, one double shot, log flume...some cool slides. For a few hours, I was content. Just my two cents. -JZ
Electerik Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Yes, Holiday World is GOOD...their coasters are great! But..they don't have much else. I don't know, Zach. I really like Holiday World, and I've spent two days there in the past without getting bored. I maybe take my time a bit more in my old age than I used to, but I still think the park has a lot to offer beyond just the three great coasters: log flume, rapids ride, shooting dark ride, some fun basic flats (Turkey Whirl, HallowSwings), lots of great food, some fun shops, the water park, Holidog's Fun Town.... I'm not just a "coaster enthusiast." I'm more of a "park enthusiast." Plus, Santa Claus also has the Candy Castle, the Santa Claus Museum, Frosty's Fun Center.... But, again, we probably will go ahead and give SFKK at least a couple of hours to impress us before we move on. Oh, and sorry for the total threadjack, Homeboy.
DBru Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 If you do end up going to SFKK, make sure to watch the new film in the park's simulator and report back to us---I'm interested to see if it's worthwhile.
davidmorton Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Just add my 2pth... I was at HW&BB Friday then KK on Saturday (PTR will follow when I get home )... but the simulator film was a bit odd - some guff about libraries and adventurous books, pretty slow and confusing pre-show then the main film was OK; all rattling around in a "Lost Temple" or something like that. Overall it did the business, but didn't make much narrative sense (but these things never do do they!)
