I searched and couldn't find anything similar other than the animatronics thread, and this is different from animatronics.

So who here is into robotics? I'm actually going to a robotics competition tomorrow at Boston University with a classmate of mine, our shop teacher and our parents. Me and my classmate were offered to do the competition as an alternative assignment from the rest of the class because our teacher could see we were far ahead of everyone else and really interested in robotics.

In short our robot has to descend a ramp, throw a hackysack through a hole and 12" beyond that, ascend back up the same ramp, and either hold its position against another robot who had to do the same thing on the opposite side of the ramp, or push the other robot out of the way. Whoever is closest to the midpoint of the track wins. And did I mention that this all has to be done in 20 seconds? And that the robot can weigh no more than 4lbs? I don't have any pics of the robot yet, but I will have some tomorrow from the competition. The robot was built with VEX hardware, motors and a micro controller, balsa wood, and a victor mouse trap. And programmed with Easy C programming software.

So are there any other robo nerds out there?

Radio controlled machines? Yup, that's me

However I'm more into the smaller models, the ones that use standard sized servos rather than a big motor with a gearbox and a big gigantic potentiometer..

^^So was that a part of the FIRST Vex program or something separate using the VEX materials? I've been on a FIRST FRC team for 3 years now and love it! It's been such a great experience and I've met tons of great people.

I love robotics, used to watch Battle Bots and Robot wars until they were canceled. (Or at least I think Battle Bots was canceled, don't see it on anymore)

No, it wasn't a FIRST program. It's a competition put on every year by Boston University. Just about anything goes as long as it meets the weight and size requirements, and does all they ask.

I just got back from the competition, my team made it to the finals, but lost the first elimination round. We would have placed 3rd had we won. But for the rounds that selected the 16 teams that would go on to finals, we placed second with 22 out of 28 possible points, the only team ahead of us had 26 out of 28.

I'm not really into robotics, but the building I follow my classes in, has this football field where students who almost got their MSc develop complete autonomos soccer playing robot. Pretty interesting to see.

I fly rc planes... Thats it. I would be interested in a RC paintball car/tank type thing, have a few servos for the yaw and pitch and such, and mounst it on a cheapy rc car!

I'm not the Mod Joey from above, but I just saw Asimo (Honda's Robot) at Innoventions in DLR, and I was very impressed. It' was pretty cool. I do like those rc cars that go about 50+.

I LOVE ROBOTICS!

I'm on a Championship FRC Team (Not going to post team # here)

But we won 1st in the Minnesota Regional 2 years ago and last year got 2nd in the Orlando Regional (Met Disney Engineers there)

I'm on the software subteam and I'm currently training Underclassmen in Labview...

Just had to get my geekiness out...
