Vffreak07 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I don't know how many people here flowride, but it's one of my favorite hobbies. I don't do it very often, but when I do, I can ride for hours. I go to my local waterpark, Waterpark of America. They have a flowrider (generic split) and it's decent. I've been to a couple different places that have them. Hershey, Waterpark of America, Boomerang Bay, and the Kalahari. They're so addicting, and I love em to death. Does anyone else here ride? Also as far as tricks, I can do a superman (no hands), turtle shell (put the board on your back, ride on your stomach), barrel roll, pushaway (push the board, have it come back to you), I can carve on my knees, and do hops (little jumps in the air). What about everyone else?
YFWE Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 They have flowriding on the more recent Royal Caribbean ships... tried one out on the Liberty of the Seas a few times last year. I don't do any tricks, though-- to me, staying on the board for more than about fifteen seconds is a trick in itself for me.
DiSab Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 to me, staying on the board for more than about fifteen seconds is a trick in itself for me. Couldn't have said it better myself. I've only been a few times - it's fun, but not worth the hour+ wait I'm always stuck with. When I do it, its usually only once or twice, unless the line's really short.
robbalvey Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Here's our Flow Rider video when we had ERT on the Royal Caribbean ship: [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=flowrider_1[/coastertube]
Angry_Gumball Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I'd like to try one of those out some time. Looks fun, I'm sure I would be able to stay on the board. (I would probably really end up shooting the board off and flipping over)
ebl Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 This looks like a lot of fun! You think they'll ever put in something like this at Hurricane Harbor? Eric
Goliath513 Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 They have dual flowriders at Denver's Water World. I've never done them before because I don't feel like waiting in line to embarrass myself when I could be riding better water rides in the park. The large crowd that is always watching is always discouraging for whenever I'm at the park and feel like trying it out.
Vffreak07 Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 I felt the exact same way my first time. There was tons of people watching. As long as you just stay straight and upwards, then you're good! Better than the people who jump in at a weird angle & wipe out right away.
chemical_echo Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I did the one at Hershey first year it opened. Having always wanted to try surfing, but having an insane fear of drowning, it's the perfect thing for me. I was able to stay on my board on my belly, except for when I tried to get on my knees and went flying. The photographer was killing himself laughing, but at least I got a good pic out of it. If I ever win a large sum of money, I am so putting one in my backyard. I found this interesting. When looking at their global installations, I couldn't help but notice King's Island... SFKI?
man Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Those things are pretty sweet, but I wouldnt wait a half hour line more than once for it.
Vid_w Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Those things are awesome! I did one at a waterpark nearby... Managed to stand up on my 3rd try! Well, for a really short time... The wait seemed very long, but i only wayited like 10 minutes...
Vffreak07 Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Brand new flowriding site if anyone is interested: http://flowboarding.ning.com/
Speeddeamon128 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I work at Sahara Sam's Oasis Indoor Water Park in West Berlin, NJ & we have a Flowrider. I rode it for the first time yesterday & it was fun. The longest time I lasted was 101 seconds before I tried standing on my knees & flipped over. My friend who was with me flipped over & his swim suit came almost all the way off It was the funniest thing I've ever seen at a water park. Has this ever happened to anyone?
jamesdillaman Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I've been on the one at King's Island, but usually there's so much line for it it isn't worth it to me.... -James Dillaman
