Volt Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Sorry for the Double Post. I saw the game announced in Nintedo Power Magazine April 2009 Edition
FitchCoaster Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Looks great! I love side-scrollers like this. It also looks like I'll now have a reason to dust off the 'ol Wii-motes for the first time in months.
window Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 A preview of the game is on the UK Official Nintendo Magazine website. http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=8345&source=newsletter Looking fantastic Robb.
robbalvey Posted May 16, 2009 Author Posted May 16, 2009 Wow! What a great article. I'm kind of partial to this comment though... The game's producer Robb Alvey also worked on superb, beautifully animated Mega Drive platformers like Aladdin and The Lion King. In short, this lot know their 2D and there's clearly a lot of talent behind the scenes. All my work with the Disney animators paid off! --Robb

I still play through it every once in a while and own 3 copies of the cartridge as well as The Lion King Genesis & SNES carts. I think I like the gameplay of the SNES version of Aladdin better but the animation is definitely superior in the Genesis version. As far as Lion King goes, I remember thinking when it came out that the sprite animation was something special especially the quick cut-scenes that were borderline FMV which was easily appreciated on a cartridge-based system in those days. I especially liked the one after Simba's Exile with the hyenas yelling "You ever come back, WE'LL KILL YA" Oh and the animation on the Hakuna Matata boss... Such a great game with wonderful art direction.
netdvn Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 ^ A LOT of early Disney games like some of the ones made by Capcom and Virgin (at least I think its Virgin) are highly regarded and good games in general... Nowdays when most people think of Disney games, we normally think about the Hannah Montana/HSM games that are terrible, but back when Capcom and Virgin made Disney games like Duck Tales, Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers, Lion King, and Aladdin, those were regarded as great games and are still praised even today. Granted there were a few bad apples here and there like TaleSpin and Rocketeer, but older Disney games are seen in a more positive light in general than newer ones. Now if only Capcom could make today's Disney games... Nah!
robbalvey Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 The three Disney games I worked on were Aladdin (Genesis), Lion King (SNES & Genesis), and Jungle Book (SNES, Genesis). They also have re-released Aladdin on a number of different platforms since. --Robb
slicknixon Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 It's too bad there are licensing issues with said games, because I would love me some Genesis Aladdin, Capcom SNES Aladdin, and maybe even Lion King re-releases on Virtual Console. Make it happen Robb my man!! By the way has anyone ever considered you a jack-of-all-trades before? Coasters and games? I mean leave some awesome lives for the rest of us, amirite people? Seriously though, I wish my life was half as awesome as working on games and riding roller coasters for a living. You've got it made my friend. Dare I say the American dream?
Erik Johnson Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 http://www.giantbomb.com/a-boy-and-his-blob/61-25508/ The new art style uses hand-painted backgrounds and hand drawn character models, paired with advanced lighting and visual effects. A greater emphasis is also put on the friendship and reliance on one another between The Boy, now with a younger design, and Blob (not Blobert as referred to in previous games). I would totally still call it Blobert!!!!
robbalvey Posted May 30, 2009 Author Posted May 30, 2009 Yay! Now more people can see what I do at my "day job." --Robb
Homer Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 IGN has a Pre-E3 interview up: http://wii.ign.com/articles/988/988363p1.html
robbalvey Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 The game will be in Majesco's booth, yes. --Robb
Meteornotes Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 That looks REALLY good! Really looking forward to this game. dt
Mochtroid Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Incredible artstyle! The gfx and sound teams must be incredible.
robbalvey Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 I recorded and processed all the VO for the game, so I guess I can say "thank you!" --Robb
ethans_dad06 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 The game looks great, looks like it really takes you back to the roots of gaming with the 2d graphics and the side scrolling gameplay. Looks like it will be a big hit Robb!! Congrats!!
robbalvey Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 The first installment of our developer diary "A Boy and his Blog" has started on IGN: http://blogs.ign.com/MAJ_BoyandHisBlob/ Enjoy! --Robb
thecoasterkid Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 The art style and sidescrolling remind me of the old Aladdin game on Genesis. From reading that blog I see it's an old game of yours Robb! Thank you for helping to make my favourite game of my childhood!
moinab Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 My kids are now begging me for this. If only we had a Wii. And a tv.
ahecht Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Wow, this looks awesome! The original "A Boy and His Blob" was the first or second NES game I ever cleared. I'm surprised they didn't update it for the new millennium and call it "A Boy and His Blog." EDIT now that I've actually had time to read the article: Wow, Robb, I didn't realize you produced "Aladdin"! That was my sister's favorite Genesis game. I still remember how the apples Aladdin threw would split in half when thrown at the knife jugglers if they hit just right! I still have my old Aladdin cartridge as well. I even remember the cheat code ([start]ABBAABBA)
Erik Johnson Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Here is another short preview article over at Gamespot http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/aboyandhisblob/news.html?sid=6212949&om_act=convert&om_clk=picks&tag=picks;title;6
Maximo37 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I'm SO excited about this "Boy and His Blob" re-make... I was a huge fan of "Trouble on Blobolonia" on NES and (to a slight lesser extent) "Rescue of Princess of Blobette" on GameBoy... great work and seriously looking forward to picking up this game upon its release...
