thrillgeek Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 So Mr. Tiger Woods is making his return to golf today at the WGC Match Play tournament. So how well do you think he will perform at his 1st tournament since his knee surgery? Alot of people have been saying that he is "required" to win this tournament to gain back his legacy. I feel this is only a stepping stone for the more important tournaments later on in the year. What do you all think of this and how well do you expect him to do this week?
Sir Clinksalot Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I don't think he's required to win anything. His legacy is just fine. As for how he'll do, I'll say top 10. I mean, he won the last tournament WITH the injury (poor Rocky) so now that he's healthy I'd imagine he'd do well.
Hercules Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 If he comes back with a vegenence, I would be really surprised. I mean, if he won this week it would just add to his legacy. I'm not expecting him to put on a show, though, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Hell, he won a major on a bad knee. That was out of this world impressive. 2015 U.S. Open - WATCH OUT TIGER, I'M COMING FOR YOU!!!
BeemerBoy Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hell, he won a major on a bad knee. And that's an understatement. As for his "comeback," he'll be fine. This guy doesn't half-a$$ anything. If he's in the field, he's there to win it, period. I'm guessing by the end of the year, that layoff will seem like just a small vacation from owning the field continually. For years I was a staunch supporter of Jack Nicklaus being considered the greatest ever. Tiger is swaying my view on that week by week.
Hercules Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 ^ Obviously a huge understatement. I think it is kind of hard to argue anything against Tiger Woods anymore.
Disney Dood Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Golf's not a contact sport, I'm sure that once he's recovered, it's not like he'll be taking hits and falling all the time, which will affect his performance.
Hercules Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 ^ What do you think he hurt his knee from? And golf may not be a contact sport, but I wake up every morning with horrible lower back pain from the days when I played competitively. Especially with my swing, golf can take a toll.
BeemerBoy Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 If there were any questions about his dominance.... Case Closed.
bigstevet07 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 As soon as he cut to within 2 after only 7 holes, I knew O'Haire was crapping his pants. That was a great tune up before the Masters for Tiger.
BeemerBoy Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 It sucks though, because I turned down VIP tickets to Bay Hill a couple months back because I wasn't sure if he'd be in the field. D'oh.
ParkTrips Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 ^ I'd almost say "WILL he come back?" is more of a valid question!! And, I would imagine, he will, but not until he feels he is ready to compete. He won't come back and suck, and if he does, I wouldn't rule an early retirement out.
themeparkman25 Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Lets say he does come back but it is not for awhile, how do you stay on top of your game on an island in Sweden? I guess that is assuming Elin lets him live there with her. Perhaps he will just ride Piraten a bunch.
BeemerBoy Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Some time will pass, he'll sit out some tournaments, there'll be a tearful Barbara Walters or Oprah interview, the public will start to forgive him, and he'll eventually be back on the course. He may have fooled many of us, but one thing still stands: his desire and drive to overtake Nicklaus. I don't know what percentage of him really wants to repair his marriage, or what percentage of his decisions are being pushed by agents/managers/etc., but I'm willing to bet nothing will keep him from the course too terribly long. It's like the Britney Spears situation. When she seemed to hit rock bottom, there was one of two ways it would end: she'd commit suicide, or greedy industry folks would somehow get control of her life, and resurrect her career. There was simply too much money on the line. Tiger is golf. I believe, in the end, money will somehow have the biggest say in this story. Oh sure, the spin doctors will work their magic, but cold hard cash speaks volumes, and can't be ignored. And when he does get back, I predict he'll dominate again. In the meantime, I'm enjoying laughing at his ignorance. He had me fooled.
AllenA07 Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I've just got this nagging feeling that his long break from golf isn't going to be all that long. Frankly I feel like April is a long way off, and I would not be shocked if we see Tiger back in time for the Masters.
larrygator Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 ^^^Piraten is in Denmark, he'll have to settle for Balder and Insane. He'll win twice as much when he comes back, because he'll need to make sure he has enough money after Elin leaves him and takes him to the cleaners.
jray21 Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 ^ Yah, I just read that if she sticks around for two more years, she will get an additional 20 million!
Wes Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 He's gonna be like Kobe after the sexual assault incident: Singularly focused on being the best at his sport.
