I think they look very cartoony. But more than that. Just hard to look at. I can't look at a piece of track that has a fatal jerk in it and be okay with it. The peeps look like something out of Banja-Kazooie. < IMO

The water effect is cheesy...and I dont find it realistic at all.. i dont see how all these people are saying the game is life like..

I dont remember seeing anyone on here saying RCT3 was lifelike. Did I miss a page? Can someone tell me who said it? Maybe I'm blind.

Where has anyone said the game is lifelike ? The question is are the graphics too cartoony or are they just right.

The graphics in Rollercoaster Tycoon have ALWAYS been cartoony, in RCT1, 2 and 3. They have never attempted to be lifelike.

As for the water effect being cheesy, that is purely your opinion, but I personally think the water effects, especially in Soaked!, with the water refraction and caustics look really good. The waves in pools can look a little angular at times but they do the job, especially considering they have hundreds of peeps interacting with them.

what exactly is "sandbox mode".. and how do u get it...

Sandbox mode is a mode where you have unlimited money and can just build without worrying about actually having a well designed park. It is often used for playing with making coasters around terrain and such.

To get to Sandbox mode you just click Play and instead of selecting Career Mode you select Sandbox.

This isn't a dig at your opinion as you are entitled to it, at least you justified your reasons for feeling that way

RCT3 is just as cartoony as RCT2, maybe the peeps are a tad more but only because you can actually SEE expressions and such now. People seem to forget that Chris Sawyer WAS ACTIVELY INVOLVED with RCT3.

Perhaps you could argue that the graphics aren't as detailed as RCT2 for tracks and scenery. But people wanted RCT in 3D so a tradeoff has to come somewhere.

Personally I like the art direction in RCT3 and feel that Frontier did a good job at capturing the FEEL of Rollercoaster Tycoon, if you compare it to Theme Park World (Sim Theme Park in the US) then it feels a MILLION times more serious than that game.

People seem to think it's cool to slag RCT3 off or compare it to non-games like No Limits (which is great and has really fluid 3D coasters, but you don't exactly PLAY it, it's a CAD Design App (simplified maybe), not a game)

If you prefer No Limits, Scream Machines, HyperRails or Ultimate Ride over RCT3 then that's your preference, it doesn't instantly make RCT3 crap. You ARE allowed to like more than one theme park/coaster game/sim !

This mine is better than yours argument is pathetic and reminds me of the Spectrum versus Commodore 64 schoolyard arguments.

I'd say the biggest let down visually would be the people.

Something about them makes them look like they should be in a different game. Not that I believe they should have been realistic... just... not like that.

I actually really miss that world-dominating, black-haired guy. That was some of the charm.

Cerb- I only joined to get the 'gifts for cool people' like 90% of the coaster fandom. But felt guilty so am starting to post -erus

i like the graphics just fine. Granted, i had to get a better card and more RAM, but i would've needed that eventually anyway.

To me, the cartoony graphics are great. Too much realism is nice, but, and again this is my opinion, it doesn't make for much replay value.

my example is this: PS2 games called : The Getaway and GTA3-4 etc.

The Getaway had realistic graphics that were very good. GTA3 etc have cartoony graphics. I've played both games and GTA's are more fun to replay, and the only diff i can find are the graphics. Shooting people seems more fun in that game.

Has anyone else noticed that?

It depends I guess, I think your example is slightly flawed in that The Getaway had lots of problems, dodgy car handling, terrible targeting and other problems. Whereas GTA is pretty good in most respects (Targeting could be improved though). GTA also has a lot of extra stuff to do after the missions are finished and it's a fun sandbox game. The Getaway didn't have anything after you'd completed the missions and you had no need to replay it as (for me at least) the story was lame. I think those points were more what made GTA more replayable. (and yes shooting was much more enjoyable in GTA)

I think people get too hooked up on what games look like, RCT3 looks good (if not GREAT), it's functional and plays well (assuming you have a decent-ish system). Which is all you could hope for to be honest.

People complain that they should be able to play RCT3 on their machines because they can play RCT2.... RCT2 runs on a Pentium 2 300 (Probably less) which is now positively ancient. Most of the complaints are people with barely entry-level PC's who would rather complain about RCT3 being crap than admit that their PC's are below average.

Some people will always prefer 2D graphics, heck that's why the GBA is still so popular. But you can't deny that building a coaster is easier in RCT3 thanks to being able to easily look at the area you need to see, instead of guessing based on the isometric 90 degree views.

I would want them to make More realistic supports. More track pieces for ALL coasters. More coasters. Downloadable skins for rides, or just new cars. More elements. More realistic drops. and just a crazy idea: You can be one of your custom peeps, or any peep in the game and be able to talk through them to the other peeps in the group. That way you could be a peep, Ride the rides with them, and you could control where they walk and your group will follow. I think it would be cool... but yeah more supports and more realism. I've kinda given up on RCT3 and the hope for RCT4. Im all for NO-Limits.

Rule #1 - if you get banned, then ask for forgiveness, then immediately come back and start digging up old threads.....you're going to draw attention to yourself.

Especially when you've re-registered. The Bantron just burped.

And I'm locking this, as it's really a dead thread.
