ernierocker Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 The Blu-Ray player doesn't really appeal to me because I do not have 1080P. I am sure it would look better than the DVDs I am playing through my XBox, but I probably wouldn't notice enough difference to justify getting a P3. So, taking that out, it comes down to the games. P3 is definitely catching up with XBox 360 in this department, but at the time I was in the market of buying a next-gen system, Xbox 360 just had a more appealing line-up.
Carnage Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 ^ Yeah, but you're jaded. You've had your 360 crap out on you more than once. I've never had an issue with mine. Yes, I'm jaded. But experiences like mine, and even worse are very, very common. If you start browsing around mesage boards, etc you'll find many, many people who have gone through multiple consoles. I've got three co-workers, a brother, and a couple fiends who have all had consoles die. And not all of them were older consoles. One co-worker had an elite die. There's even a guy on another message board I browse who's had his elite die twice. The second time they sent him back a 360 pro instead of an elite. The quality issues with the 360 cost MS $1billion dollars to extend the warranties. That's a billion dollars that is being pumped into a pissed off customer base who are not going to come back.
kraken613 Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 Wii Motion Plus................... http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/eMMuRj_N6vntHPDycCJAKWhEO9zBvyPH We will find out more at Nintendos press conference!
Homer Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Microsoft's conference was impressive about the whole Xbox Live Arcade/Marketplace thing. Most exclusive games (except maybe Fallout 3, You're In The Movies) haven't wowed me. The Avatars system is a cheap Mii ripoff. Also, 360 barely edging out the Wii... Hopefully Nintendo and Sony wows me tomorrow. Especially Sony, if rumor is true... Google Earth based Zombie game?
Carnage Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Also, 360 barely edging out the Wii... I probably won't get to reading up on stuff until tonight, but I assume that refers to overall revenue? That makes real sense really. Wii edges out 360 and PS3, but in terms of revenue Wii's lower price point closes the gap a bit. But the big difference is probably software sales. 360/PS3 owners are probably much more likely to continue buying new games. Wii owners are probably much less likely to buy extra games. What with the whole casual gaming focus, there's probably a lot of people that play nothing more then Wii Sports.
thomas2 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Ok so Nintendo is done speaking. My god epic fail for them. Exept for Animal Crossing (which has bad graphics) there's not a decent thing announced. Wii Sports Resort sounded cool but the mini games they showed just sucks. Who want to throw a frisbee at a dog or do some dumb sword fighting. Wii Music is also a letdown. The game didn't impress me a single bit. Again epic fail for Nintendo IMO.
Homer Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Nintendo's conference disappointed me big time this year. Aside from GTA finally on the DS, Wii Microphone, and Wii Motion Plus; this conference just felt blah. No real new 1st party games (here's looking at you Punch-Out and Kid Icarus), Wii Music somehow went from something awesome to something else, and just... eugh. Although if you liked Animal Crossing... at least there's a new Animal Crossing coming out. EDIT: At least it wasn't Sony 2006 though. Enemy crabs, Riiiidge Racer, and 599 USD.
kraken613 Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Wow................... I am ashamed to be a Nintendo fan right now............... Wheres the hardcore game you told us about? Animal Crossing isnt hardcore! I think Nintendo wants everybody to be causal gamers................. They really have left the fanbase who got them through the 64 and Gamecube behind............ Im not sure I can say I am a huge fan anymore. And that is sad and a day I never thought could happen.........
thomas2 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Yeah I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought they looked like retards when they were 'preforming' Wii Music. Plus I wanted to slap that woman when she started to talk about how almost half the ds owners are women. What does that matter. I don't want to see a new barbie game or something. Ugh! But at the same time I think that Nintendo will show some more the next days. This just can't be true.
Homer Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 ^You know several websites like IGN and Gamespot have live E3 streams too, right?
FeelTheFORCE Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Sony is in 20 minutes! I wonder what they have in store for us.
SharkTums Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 LOL!!! You guys are all the reason Nintendo is doing so well!!!! Hmmm, 50% of the DS owners are Women...and here are a bunch of dudes bitching. SHOCKING! No wonder they're trying to appeal to others. Women control more of the money and decision making power anyway. Teenage boys are not the best when it comes to spending money. You all will just rent or share or pirate games anyway. A bunch of more crazy wacky Wii stuff sounds perfect to me, and yup, I'll be buying Animal Crossing!
kraken613 Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 ^ Thats a very slanted point of view.............. I have every Nintendo system and I am sad they are leaving their hardcore fanbase behind. Go to any board talking about this Press Conference and its the same responses at everyone. I dont want to have nothing to play on my Wii since I love Nintendo but Ive already stopped downloading VC and WiiWare games since no storage solution!
Rct3man777 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 ^You know several websites like IGN and Gamespot have live E3 streams too, right? Oh yeah... Gesh I'm dumb.
thomas2 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 ^Thats a very slanted point of view.............. I have every Nintendo system and I am sad they are leaving their hardcore fanbase behind. Go to any board talking about this Press Conference and its the same responses at everyone. Ill just play my PS3 or 360 and forget about my Wii without the core games that made Nintendo so amazing. I dont want to forget about my Wii since I love Nintendo but Ive already stoped downloading VC and WiiWare games since no storage solution! Yes I really don't care that they make casual titles like Wii Sports or Wii Fit. I enjoy them too; the tennis is outstanding IMO. Wii Sports actually convinced me to buy a Wii and Wii Fit is on it's way (stupid delivery times! It's been over a month!). But the new casual games shown at the E3 just don't look all that great. Wii Sports Resort seem blah. It's more about simple beach games then about actual sports. Wii Music is also not very impressing (altough I was really looking forward to this since I love making music). Plus the fact that no new "real Nintendo game" was announced leaves a bitter aftertaste. I think my hopes were to high for this E3. Oh well onto next year
kraken613 Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 ^ Yeah I never said I didnt like the casual games! I have Wii Sports and Wii Fit and they are great! But the real Nintendo games your Metroid, Zelda, Mario...... Even Pikmin, Kid Icarus, or Punchout! But not one thing for that fanbase.............. I just watched Sony's and they are all about the games! They must have shown 20+ games in depth! But Nintendo shows what 9 or 10 they didnt deserve the Kodak Theater!
mcjaco Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 ^Thats a very slanted point of view.............. I have every Nintendo system and I am sad they are leaving their hardcore fanbase behind. Go to any board talking about this Press Conference and its the same responses at everyone. How is that slanted? Women are half of their DS market. They'd be really dumb to ignore them, just to make a few teenagers happy for a "hardcore" game. Sad to say, but any company is going to go where the money is. So to bad, just learn to like Barbie!
kraken613 Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 ^ DS is 4 and 1/2 years old its had its 1st party support. Its being run by 3rd parties now. But maybe those people buying are now almost half women but overall who has bought more......... But Wii or DS didn't have a single game for the gamers! You think all those people who own a Wii are casual? Your wrong! People almost every gamer who owns a PS3 or 360 own a Wii. Those gamers are interested in the quallity titles core or casual. None other than Animal Crossing looked very appealing. Whats the appeal of waving around to play an instrument and not even have to do anything? Now Wii Sports Resort looks ok...... I am really interested in how it all works. They didn't show anything of that much quality or enough to impress. Now if they had teased a new Zelda like they did with Twilight Princess not even show us real gameplay every Nintendo fan would be happy because they know its coming and excitement! The last core game was Smash Bros in March. We dont even know a core game in the works........ The whole thing even with the same games could have been pulled off alot better! Those casual games are great and fun but they are not things that amaze like every gamer is used to from Nintendo!
Homer Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 ^There's still "core" games of sorts being developed. Disaster: Day of Crisis is supposedly still being worked on and Wario Land: Shake It! looks like a fun title. I'm just surprised Nintendo didn't cover those games at their conference. It was all about the casual gamer and no big WOW OMG announcements.
Erik Johnson Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Ok so Nintendo is done speaking. My god epic fail for them. Exept for Animal Crossing (which has bad graphics) there's not a decent thing announced. Sure Animal Crossing does use pretty much N64 graphics, but that is the style of the game. I know I will be buying Animal Crossing Wii.
robbalvey Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Wow................... You're going to drop being a fan over one press conference? Wow, you're fickle dude! You should just go pick up a 360 only to drop them like a rock when the next Halo is announced that it's going to be 6 months delayed. As someone who has been making games for Nintendo since the NES days I would have to say your comments come with very little knowledge of how Nintendo does things. First off, Nintendo keeps their big games very closely guarded. I'd put money on it that they have a lot of titles that you are going to love, they just aren't ready to announce them yet. Secondly, they released more "core fanbase" games in the first 18 months of the Wii than I think they did for the Gamecube or any other system...EVER. Third, other than Mario Party, it's very rare to see any of the core franchises sequeled in a year or even two. Some of the Mario games spend 3 to 5 years in development. If you want the next installment of your favorite Nintendo franchise, like you have for the past 20 years, you're just going to have to wait it out. Fourth, Animal Crossing *is* one of their core franchises and I think the millions of hardcore Nintendo fans who bought the 3 games in the series will prove you wrong. Just because you may not be into it doesn't mean you can't discount it as a core franchise. I personally don't like the Zelda series but I openly admin that it's one of the core franchises. (I think there are more AC fan sites than Zelda ones...) And finally, E3 is mainly about the "press" now. And the "press" is about mainstream audiences. So if you think that they covered *everything* that Nintendo is doing, you're wrong. They covered titles with mass market appeal for outlets like "Today Show" to pick up on. And for those of you who don't like the "causal games" like Wii Fit or Wii Sports, well, I hate to say it but maybe you should look into a PS3 or 360. Those games are outselling most of the competition and Wii Fit has generated the biggest demand of an accessory required title since the original Guitar Hero. I don't see how anyone could see that as being an "epic fail." --Robb "These are my opinions based on my 18 years of working with Nintendo products." Alvey
kraken613 Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Ill never leave Nintendo and I do have a 360 and PS3................. I never said I didnt like the casual games............ They have tons of franchises they haven't even explored yet.............. Im not expecting a Zelda or Mario.............. Just something................... PS: Also I own every Nintendo console made. I know how they work. But not once have they ignored the core games! Ask any site or forums and your going to get alot of responses like mine!
robbalvey Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 ^ It really sounds like you're just complaining just because they didn't announce a game for YOU. I was personally very happy with what they had to say. I think it's the right direction for the system. I'm sure Nintendo feels the same way. --Robb
