The early opening day result is IN!

As we all expected, WALL-E proves to be a huge hit. Early estimation says that the movie took about $23 million on Friday alone (include the midnight screening). The opening day is not only Disney-Pixar's biggest but also the third best opening day for an animated feature after Shrek 3 ($38.4 million) and The Simpsons Movie ($30.8 million). With the result, the opening weekend is expected to be about $66 million and perhaps even $70-million range. Also, word-of-mouth might even increase the income of the movie on Saturday. Not only that, most children are having their summer vacation right now so WALL-E will be a huge performer of the summer.

Wanted also performs very well on its opening day. With $18.5 million, the R-rated movie will be one of the biggest R-rated action movies. Whether the movie will hold well or not, we don't know it yet. But usually, action flick has a larger drop as people rush to see it as soon as it opens, unlike family films.

I saw both WALL-E and Wanted this weekend.

WALL-E was amazing! It had the audience captivated right from the beginning, and I have to say, I've never come across an animated character that could tug at your emotions quite so well. I absolutely loved it in every way, and it certainly deserves the great reviews it has gotten.

Wanted was also good. I have to say, I didn't have very high expectations for it, but it really did impress me. The plot was much more involved than I had anticipated, and it wasn't at all what I was expecting... in a very good way.

Although both movies were great in different ways, WALL-E was just fantastic. I would pay another $10 to see it again in the theatres. And I almost never say that.

GO, WALL-E!

I just got back from seeing Wall-E for my second time and can now officially say that it is my favorite Pixar film. Bring on the Wall-E attraction. Maybe retheme Mission Space.

Agreed. A WALL-E themed attraction would be awesome.

Hell yeah, I saw it twice already too, I'm most likely going to see it again because my mom and sister still want to see it. I would be all for a WALL-E ride. Just as long as it's at DCA. I'm tired of Florida getting all the awesome attractions

After taking a monstrous Friday, WALL-E finished at the top position with an estimated $62.5 million. The opening weekend in considered as huge for an animated feature. But looking at the pattern of the result, WALL-E is different compared to the other Disney-Pixar's features. After taking more than $23 million on Friday alone, the movie was down to $22 million on Saturday and then a big drop on Sunday to $17 million. I seriously have never seen this pattern in Disney-Pixar's. Don't you think there's supposed to be a bump on Saturday where kids and parents enjoy the weekend the most? But anyway, given the fact that WALL-E is 'unusual' for its 'no-dialogue' feature, WALL-E has done a great job. And since the July 4th weekend is coming, WALL-E will continue to dazzle.

Taking the per-screen-average crown is the R-rated Wanted. The movie beat the expectation with more than $51 million. Its per-screen-average was $400 more than what WALL-E have earned that weekend. The next weekend, Wanted will have a huge competition against Will Smith's Hancock.

Meanwhile, at the overseas box office, Wanted took the crown at number one, grossing a robust $33 million from 22 markets. This includes a huge debut in UK with $8 million, which was head-to-head with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. In Russia, the movie opened to a record-breaking $11 million given the fact that the director, Timur Bekmambetov, is a Russian and as we all know... he's extremely popular for his Nightwatch and Daywatch.

WALL-E also opened impressively in 6 small markets. Brazil led with $1.6 million while Chile and Colombia gave $525,000 and $498,000 respectively. The movie will hit UK in mid-July, Mexico and Russia next weekend.

So what do you think?

We saw Wall-E this past weekend. I thought it was Pixar's best movie by far. I've liked all of Pixar's work in the past, and always end up buying the DVDs. With Wall-E, I really want to see it a second time and don't think I can wait for the DVD to be released. So, we'll probably be making a trip back to the theater to see it a second time. I highly recommend it.

First of all I want to say 'Happy Independence Day' for USA. Hope all of you who live there have a great time celebrating the event.

Now back to the box office report this weekend...

Yesterday, WALL-E managed to beat the preview screening of Hancock. WALL-E received $7.6 million while the Will Smith's superhero movie took $6.8 million. This figure tells WALL-E will be a charming performer this weekend as more children are out and WALL-E is the only family movie that stands out.

About today, Hancock wins the crown with less-than-expected $17.2 million. Last year, Transformers took a gigantic $27 million after its preview night. Comparing the two, Hancock will be kind of... disappointing in its performance. Reviews haven't been so good as well for the movies but hey! It's all about Will Smith and when he stars in a movie, there's no doubt the movie will be successful anyway!

WALL-E took another $6.7 million on the same day. Absolutely far less than Hancock's, just like Ratatouille vs. Tranformers last year. But if the audience like what they see in the movie, WALL-E will have a huge number of audience on 4th of July, which also happens to be Friday. This 4th July weekend will be a huge box office for the movie industry.

Meanwhile, Wanted performed well for another $3.6 million on Wednesday. For an R-rated movie, it already satisfies so many teenagers and older audience so big drop might be expected this weekend.

Going to the foreign box office, Kung Fu Panda is taking the Asian box office crown of the year. In Singapore, the movie grossed more than $4.1 million, making it the no.1 movie of the year. The same thing happened South Korea and Russia, where the movie grossed more than $20 million in each territory. It also controlled Phillippines as it became the no.1 animated movie of all time. The movie is currently opening in number in Australia. It's released in Germany, UK and Brazil this weekend.

Fact of the day:

Hancock had to be edited twice to earn a PG-13 rating.

I saw Wall-E today and it was aswome. It was one of the best animated films I've ever seen!

I got some tears in my eyes while watching the movie. I also cried in Pixar's Cars, so I'm a sucker for movies!

Does anyone know that John Ratzenburger (sp?) is in every single Disney-Pixar film made?

People chose to stay out of the theatres as the 4th of July fell on Friday. As a huge public holiday event and celebration, families will choose to go watching fireworks, going to theme parks, beaches and also having BBQ with other people. This is proven by the huge Friday-to-Friday fall of WALL-E. The movie only managed to take an estimated $9.2 million o the day. But it's expected to do much better on Saturday and a smaller decline on Sunday. But still... comparing with the other Pixar movie (even Ratatouille and Cars, yes), the drop is... MONSTROUS! I really hope this movie will recover next week.

Wanted also lost its audience during the 4th of July. After a huge debut last weekend, it suffered even bigger drop than WALL-E. Its Friday-to-Friday drop was a gigantic 72%. By earning only about $5.4 million, the well-reviewed movie seemed to have a steeped drop than anyone had expected. But just like WALL-E, it's expected to perform better on Saturday and Sunday.

Hancock proves to be a less-than-expected hit this weekend. Many predicted it will take more than $120 million in its first 5-and-a-half opening. But right now the prediction is down to $90 million-$100 million. After taking $42 million, the movie only managed $18.8 million on the Independence Day. And it was in its first weekend! Compared to Transformers last year, Hancock is very 'small'. Still, if everything goes well, the movie might surpass $100 million by Monday morning.

Kung Fu Panda still had its muscle on the Friday, earning $2.1 million, which wasa 40% fall from last Friday. The movie is currently in the same pace as Car's. So perhaps $225 million-$240 million is where this movie should finish.

After a terrifying drop on Friday WALL-E recovered quickly. With $9.3 million on Friday, the movie had a 50% bump on Saturday for an estimated $14 million, but then another steep 'drop' of 28% to a projected $10.1 million. This brings WALL-E a $33.4 million second weekend, which is a 47% fall from last weekend. The drop is by far the biggest drop of any Pixar's movies. The main cause, of course, as we all know it, is that because the July 4th fell on Friday. WALL-E will recover very soon in its midweek sales. So far, it has taken $128.1 million in 10 days, which is the third-best for Pixar animation.

This weekend's crown goes to Hancock. Just like WALL-E the movie had a disappointing take on Friday, but recover quickly through the weekend. The final tally is $66 million for the 3-day weekend and a total of $107.3 million for the 5-and-a-half opening. But given the fact that usually a movie that has 'extended' opening drops fast, Hancock might not be Will Smith's signature. It's projected that Hancock will finish below $250 million.

Kung Fu Panda still had its run in the theatre. It grossed another $7.1 million. The movie has broken so many records for an animation title in Asian markets, which include Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and South Korea.

Meanwhile, in the foreign box office, the crown went to Hancock as well. The movie topped UK with $19.3 million, which was 70% bigger than Kung Fu Panda, $12.4 million in Germany, $8.5 million in South Korea, $7.3 million in Australia and $5.5 million in China. Also counted as impressive is $3.4 million in Brazil and $3.1 million in Taiwan.

While it had broken records in Asia, Kung Fu Panda proved to be 'another' animation in European markets. In UK, its head-to-head fight with Hancock only managed $10.7 million and in Germany, it was only $3.6 million.

In foreign markets, WALL-E grossed $13 million, a 400% climb from last weekend. The movie topped Mexico with $5.3 million and then a no.2 opening (after Wanted's second weekend) with $5 million. While the openings aren't as big as Kung Fu Panda's in the same markets, both openings are the highest for Disney-Pixar features. So yes, it's very... satisfying.

The world is right now waiting for the new musical, Mamma Mia. The movie launched in only one market, but it broke the record as the best 2008 opening with $1.6 million. In UK, it broke a record as well. It grossed $240,000 only at just one screen in Odeon Leicester Square.

This weekend, Hellboy 2 took the top spot with an estimated $36 million which is about 50% better than its predecessor. The second spot was really close. Hancock held extremely well with $33. Its cume is right now at a gigantic $165 million. Followed by its huge performance overseas, the movie has a chance to become the biggest summer blockbuster (after Indiana Jones).

Meanwhile, the new family film Journey to the Center of the Earth took the third spot with an estimated $20.6 million. But expect it to fall next weekend as 57% of the tickets were shown in 3-D.

The weekend saw another huge fall for the Disney-Pixar feature WALL-E. This weekend it took $18.5 million, which is in position number 4. Although the cume is right now ahead of Kung Fu Panda, Ratatouille and Cars, many suggest that it won't meet the Pixar's success standard. Expect it to finish at around $220 million - $230 million. The only thing that can change this prediction is if the movie performed strongly on its weekdays . But since The Dark Knight is opening on Friday (and it's reported that the movie should take about $130 million), WALL-E mightn't be able to have long-leg run like last year's Ratatouille. I even began to ask myself whether it will pass $200 million or not. But even worse...

With these drops every weekend, can WALL-E surpass Kung Fu Panda's cume?

Last week, WALL-E is like $10 million ahead of Kung Fu Panda. BUt right now it's only $6.5 million. Uh-oh, poor WALL-E...

WALL-E will open in UK this weekend (July 18). Anyone from UK wants to report how big is the anticipation there?

I saw WALL~E last week and it was the best movie I've ever seen, and I have long since passed animation if that adds anything!

I have no desire what so ever to view Kung-Fu-Panda, as it seems to be a very bad movie for anyone over 7!
