CoasterComet Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 I can't seem to shake the resentment I have for CP doing what they did to the Blue Streak. I mean, the brakes, station arrangement was crappy, but what they did to those beautiful trains is just unforgiveable. I have a few pics I'd like to share, taken when I worked on the ride 92-93, hope you all enjoy!
CoasterComet Posted April 10, 2008 Author Posted April 10, 2008 hmmm... Not sure how to upload multiple pics here's another one
downunder Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Unfortunately my first ride on Blue Streak was in 2003, and I feel affection for this coaster based on my experience of it at that time but it must have been pretty cool back then. Was Blue Streak the biggest coaster in the world when it first opened?
CoasterComet Posted April 10, 2008 Author Posted April 10, 2008 ^Not at all. There was a Blue Streak, I think a place called woodside park, maybe a Miller coaster, that was like 140' and the tallest at the time. There isn't much info on that ride though. The Blue Streak was fast, sleek, smooth, beautiful. A nice big padded blue seat (as you see in the pics) with NO seatdivider, no headrest, a buzz bar and an 'optional' seatbelt. The way we loaded and ran the coaster was just too 'scary' for the corporate nature of todays big parks unfortunately. They STILL could have saved the trains from what they did to them. One could say, sarcasticly, the orange stripe now matches the lap bars There were several occasions where the train came back and 3 people got out of a seat! And noone got hurt! Everyone was happy. How cool is that!
downunder Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 At least they haven't gotten rid of it, I have always enjoyed a few rides on Blue Streak whenever I visit CP.
CoasterComet Posted April 10, 2008 Author Posted April 10, 2008 ^They might as well get rid of it the way it is now. I mean, look to Lake Winnie that modified their (similar) woodie, but it's still a beauty. The ride, as it is, is a monstrosity and no fun (Rebel Yell, Racer, etc.) And even worse than those, b/c this ride was much better than those, even in their prime.
downunder Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 It could be worse, we had a really cool old school Big Dipper at Luna Park Sydney but it got burned by a fire that started in the Ghost Train underneath it which killed 6 people unfortunately, it was eventually demolished after that incident. I think Blue Streak reminds me a bit of the Big Dipper.

I have a few pics I'd like to share, taken when I worked on the ride 92-93, hope you all enjoy! Beautiful Blue Streak shots. I remember the ride when it was fun ... when you'd cruise into the station and a male operator would have to use his weight to manipulate the brake handle and slow that heavy train. Cherish your memories. Those were wonderful times! -S
VegasCoaster Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 I like the Blue Streak even as it is now, though I can see how it could have been a better ride in the past. Its a fun little ride and if nothing else, is hands down best woodie at CP.
downunder Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 ^It's a shame Blue Streak doesn't have any real competition for the title of best woodie at CP.
verticalzero Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Lovely pictures of the classic Blue Streak trains at CP, it's a shame the park can't go back to how the trains and station looked when it 1st opened. Could some after 1995 pictures of the BS trains be added so everyone can see the difference
WillMontu Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Here are some pictures of the ride in its current state The station The butchered trains
larrygator Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 ^It's a shame Blue Streak doesn't have any real competition for the title of best woodie IN OHIO. fixed
ginzo Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 ^It's a shame Blue Streak doesn't have any real competition for the title of best woodie IN OHIO. fixed You forgot about the Screechin' Eagle.
pianojohn Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Ah yes, the Blue Streak the way it USED to be! It was an awesome ride, especially at night right on the lake. Here is a pic from my first summer working there in 1986.
