Hey everyone.

I've read and watched lots of videos about Acrophobia at SFOG, and they all say how scary it is and such. But what they don't say is really why.

What do you feel on it? Why is it so scary?

Thanks,

If you ask me, its just personal preference and well, Acrophobia is just an intimidating ride in general. Acrophobia is the only Intamin drop tower with seats that tilt forward at the top of the tower.

If you've been on an Intamin drop tower, the height and anticipation is scary enough, but the extra tilt surprises a lot of riders. That is why a number of riders think Acrophobia is scary. That and the ride ops there are usually jokers with the drop countdown.

^Like he said, the seats tilt forward about, what, 45 degrees? Plus, you are "standing up", so if you look down, there is nothing but air (usually you are sitting and your knees are in the way).

Oh, and the ride ops distract you with their jokes/lines (through a loud speaker) once at the top, so you don't expect the drop! SOOO terrifying!

Yeah it really is a hard one to explain why it's so scary but it is!!!

It's one of the few rides that still 'scares' me each time it starts up! (And I've been on it probably close to a hundred times!)

For me, it's not really the tilting (as that doesn't work half the time anyway!) just the position you're in and falling...wow, it's incredible!

I've wondered how comfortable the seats are on Acro. Stand-up(ish) on a drop ride would mean decent forced in between the legs, I would think...

I saw an old TR from Robb and Elissa's visit there a while ago and they had a close up of the seats. I noticed they do have a small butt platform, but is it enough to keep most of the forces from stopping off your...you know...

I guess so, as I have yet to find people complaining about its comfy-ness. Just wondering.

"the ride ops there are usually jokers with the drop countdown." (Homer)

If I worked there I could have some fun with that...counting down in Roman numerals, Japanese, etc.---the same way I do when I'm taking pictures: "On the count of three...I...II...III..."

I think it's more scary for guys than girls because they have the "Is my crotch going to hurt after this" feeling. The ride is really confortable throughout though.

The newer seats (some have been replaced...) are more giving for the crotch region, because there is more butt room. The first time I rode it, I remember being terrified that my... private area... would be crushed when we hit the brakes, but everything ended up fine!

Very good news! I'm going in early June and this is about the only thing I was scared about for this ride. I really can't wait to go!

I've braved the tallest they can give me, now I'm going to try the tilted stand up!

Is it the tallest drop ride? & taller than Drop Zone at CGA? & does it spin droping? I'm not scared to go on this. I've been on Drop Zone many times & Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere.

^^ spin while dropping? That sounds fun, but no it doesn't. All it does is slowly rotate on the way up, when it gets to the top the seats tilt forward giving you an amazing view of the ground and after a brief hold it drops you. Sending you falling straight down, but not while spinning! Acrophobia is no where near being the tallest drop ride in the world, but it is very scary!!

I heard that Superman: Tower of Power at Six Flags Over Texas is claimed to be the tallest. Or the park says it is at least.

I don't know if I believe it though. Doesn't look that large compared to the Intamins drop towers.

In my knowlage, I think the tallest is a drop tower in Japan. The name forgets me, but I believe it had the word "Blue" in it.
