vistaway
So, it's been revealed: http://www.niagarasfury.com/fury-revealed.html It has: - Circlevision-type projection - snow - motion (nothing too major it seems) - spray - wind - fog Basically an attraction like Twister, Backdraft or Armageddon... Looks cool. I like those.
ahecht
As vistaway said, it's a circlevision theater, but the platform is built on top of, and surrounded by, a pool of water with wave and fountain effects built into it. It looks like there is also some platform movement (think Backdraft or Twister at Universal), fog, snow, wind, lighting effects, etc. From the press release at http://www.niagarasfury.com/fury-revealed.html : Then you enter an immersive environment to see and actually feel the sights, sounds and sensations of Niagara's birth. Your senses tingle with anticipation as you enter the dark space and feel the bone chilling cold. Suddenly, snow fills the room. You shiver as a harsh Arctic blast whips across your face and an onslaught of sight, sound and sensation like you've never experienced before, begins. Images of massive glaciers surround you, and the drama is enhanced by rich original music and dynamic 3D sound. You are humbled by the vast magnitude of nature's power and beauty. Then the floor begins to tremble and the theater explodes in sound as monstrous glaciers calve and crash all around. You're not just watching nature's fury... you're a part of it. Throughout this dramatic and immersive experience, you'll feel the torrential rush of millions of gallons of glacial melt-water as it churns all around you on its cataclysmic rush down a craggy gorge. You are truly engulfed in the torrent, as waves literally lap beneath your feet. A deluge of rocks and water shake the floor beneath as you feel the thunder, rain, lightning, wind, water and even snow while the creation of the Falls is revealed all around you. You will see the vast and furious effects of climate change as they unfolded more than 10,000 years ago. The attraction opens in June.
Adriel
Oh that's simply impressive. But I'm quite worried, though, since then the attraction might be too intense for some people who are 'sensitive'. Shaking floor? OMG, that sounds both fantastic and intense!!
ahecht
My guess is that the shaking is going to be no more than a strong rumbling caused by subwoofers attached to the floor (like they did in the preshow to the Space Shuttle Launch Experience at KSC). I'd be surprised if it even got to science-museum-earthquake-similator strength.
niiicolaaah
There is a SERIOUS difference between the 2 sides of Niagara Falls. I would have no quams about walking all over town on the Canadian side, but I'd be pretty wary to do so much as park my car on the American side. I really hope you don't mean you think it's a crime-ridden area, cause it's not. Some of the streets in downtown Niagara Falls are a little sketchy, but near the water is fine. I've been going there by myself with friends since I was 16, in the dark and everything. Plus, there are cool nature things to do. The whirlpool jet boats, Cave of the Winds, Goat Island and the 3 Sister Islands, etc. Nicole "Grew up a 5 minute drive from Niagara Falls!" jamesdillaman
Did anyone else laugh at the video's dialogue when they said "Through a new and innovative mesh floor"!? Hahaha! Because there have never been floors of steel grating, like on our 100 year old Roebling Suspension Bridge here in Cincinnati -James Dillaman
thecoasterkid
^^ I've never spent any serious amount of time on the American side to know if there actually is crime, but by looks alone it certainly seems like the type of area you don't want to wander alone in the dark. I guess I'll have to take your word for it then that it's looks are deceiving. The attraction itself seems to be pretty much right on what I was expecting. I'll check it out once, but not too sure if it'd warrant a repeat visit.
eBen
The shaking could be similar to what you get on the 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Ride', it even has similar rails to line people up along. In fact the hype is probably proportional to that ride and its outcome. I do seam to have missed what part of this has never been concived before, and is the ground breaking element just a terrible pun to do with the floor, anyone? televisedconfession
hmm. it seems to have the potential of being pretty cool.... kinda like Oh Canada meets Poseidon's Furry... meets twister?!?! hmm.. we'll just have to see the reviews. i hope it's good. its seems like a good revenue maker for the passing tourist. Carnage
I do seam to have missed what part of this has never been concived before, and is the ground breaking element just a terrible pun to do with the floor, anyone? It's Niagara Falls, where everything goes. Stuff in the area will use any method possible to hype up their attraction. Even as far as downright lying. That's how things work in tacky tourist traps. Philrad71
Suddenly, snow fills the room. You shiver as a harsh Arctic blast whips across your face and an onslaught of sight, sound and sensation like you've never experienced before, begins. Ummm...we live in Western NY, we experience that like five months out of the year! As far as the ghetto-ness of the American side, it really is not that bad and there are some nice things to visit. The thing that is upsetting is the downtown area and the fact that it is just in a very oppressed situation. I don't think that I would be scared to walk around at night on the American side, but the only thing US NF really has is the casino and the clientle does not seem to be there to soak money into the economy. The "shopping district" was a complete ghost town two weeks ago and while "Little Italy" was a nice idea to try and stimulate the downtown area, it has failed miserably. I do realize that it is off-season, but there are a lot of visitors that come for business trips that always want to go to the Falls. I entertained two business associates from Korea last week that were headed to the Falls on Saturday. I mentioned Goat Island, Three Sisters Island, and Lewiston/Whirlpool State Park as places to visit on the American side. I told them that I did not recommend the "downtown" area.
