WDWCP22 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I don't really understand why everyone is ready to go to the Cedar Fair office with pitchforks and torches. Sure, it's a crappy name, but last time I checked, the name has nothing to do with ride experience. If people get themselves worked up over this then they seriously need to get a life.
Tmcdllr Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 And you never get worked up over anything? Yeah the ride is not gonna be any different but the name does totally blow chunks.
speedracer Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 ^ I agree. I think the whole point is how craptacular of a name this is and would be for any coaster, or really anything except for um, a flight deck? They no doubt had a list and a choice of hundreds of possible cool names, and this was their #1 pick?
WDWCP22 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 And you never get worked up over anything? Yeah the ride is not gonna be any different but the name does totally blow chunks. I get worked up over things, like family, school, girls, and the like, but I don't get worked up over a ride name. If you don't like it, don't pay attention to it and move on.
ebl Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 "Sure, it's a crappy name, but last time I checked, the name has nothing to do with ride experience." (WDWCP22) So, according to your logic, they should build, say, a runaway mine train and call it "Possum" since that has nothing to do with the ride experience. Seriously, Top Gun will be a great ride, even if it's called Flight Deck. Not the greatest name, I agree, and I'm not losing sleep over it. But they could have put some thought into it, though. Eric
Coasterlvr_nc Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 ^ Exactly how i feel about it! yes i HATE the new name, and i would have taken them a grand total of... no more than 20 seconds to come up with a better name. Just look at some ideas people on TPR have mentioned. But im not going to loose any sleep over it, and its certainly not something that is on my mind 24/7.
coolhandluke Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Wow, everyone's complaining about how bad the name is or complaining about how other people are complaining about the name...oh, well. I don't like the name at all, so I am going to complain about it. I like Cedar Fair, as they own both of my "home" parks (KI and CP). But come on, Flight Deck? I can't wait for KI to announce the...same...thing... At least the rides are still fun. And yes, by complaining about the name, I realize I open myself up to ridicule from others.
Angry_Gumball Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Not trying to add anymore complaints to the new name as I already put in my 2 cents-worth. I was talking to one of my non-coaster coworkers today about the name change and he was like "WTF? Flight Deck? What kind of name is that? Wow..that's bad!"

I don't like this name, but nothing I do is gonna do anything about it. I'm wondering how much of the que theming they'll keep. We also have to wait to see what they do with Survivor. "Jungle Disk" and they'll have to get rid of the que theming there too. No more "I'll say Jabaroo. And I'll say Boran."
GoogleMickey Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I can see why they changed the name, or a reason. There is already a inverted floorless coaster named Top Gun, so I think it is nice to give this coaster an original name even if it isn't amazing name. Besides since when has the name of the coaster made the coaster the coaster.
browntggrr Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Either CF changes the names of the rides themed to Paramount movies, or they pay a fee to Paramount to use the names. And there was no way CF is going to pay Paramount for ride names.

Another Top Gun was renamed Flight Deck, so it's not the only one (and the other ones have yet to be changed). Also a quick note an inverted coaster and a floorless coaster are different things. Both Flight Decks are inverted.
Domm Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I don't get how people are saying "OMG this is gonna be a cloned name". Uhhh...Wasn't there already 4 top gun coasters already sharing the same name so why is this any different...or even a shock that all are gonna be called flight deck?? I agree, but at the end of the day its still the same ride and I'm going to have just as much fun on it as I did before Especially with the new extended summer hours. Flight Deck till 10pm!!!! I cant wait to ride this in the dark! i love you queef. we will create incredible memories at this park this year. you are numero uno in my themeparkreview book.
