jmicha Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Despite being your everyday SLC, I feel that Thunderhawk at Geauga Lake is actually exceptionally smooth for what it is. I have absolutely no problem riding that ride and honestly feel that the SLC layout is fantastic. I know I'm in the minority saying this, but having only ridden one SLC, I don't understand the complaints. Is there anyone that has ridden several SLC's that could compare Thunderhawk to others in reference to its smoothness?
KingOfNynex2003 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 well I've only been on a few Vekoma coasters the corkscrew coaster at Playland in Vancouver, BC, Canada Deja Vu at SFMM and Boomerang at Knott's the Corkscrew makes you act like a bobblehead doll for about 1.5 minutes and I absolutely hate it with a passion and Deja Vu in my own opinion is really smooth and very fun and Boomerang is pretty much just like the Corkscrew coaster.
Airtime&Gravity Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 The only rough Vekoma I've ridden is Boomerang at DL, so I guess I was just lucky on the other ones I had ridden.(I was not going to try the SLC at DL) The other Vekomas I've ridden are Deja vu, T2, Boomerang(SFEG), and Spacley's Sprocket Rockets, and these were all good coasters. I was actually beginning to think that their roughness was exaggerated just because they were rougher than Intamin or B&M.
thomas2 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I think that the 'Vekoma roughness' is exaggerated. A rollercoaster is about a wild and out of control ride so I think it's normal there's some roughness. That ofcourse doesn't mean that I don't acknowledge that Vekoma's are somewhat rougher than other coasters, but I never ever passed on a Vekoma because of it's roughness. So I haven't ridden a Vekoma that made me think 'what a rough ride, I'll ride it never again'.
Darien Laker Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 It's not exaggerated, it's just not present on every model of their ride. The roughness of Vekoma SLC's is not exaggerated. I'll still ride them, but I've still yet to go on a smooth SLC. After the first drop there's just nothing to like about them. Even if they were smooth, the pacing is absolutely horrible. The train just seems to stop and go so many times throughout the inversions. I prefer just to stick to Raptor.
brianwolters Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 It's mostly just the boomerangs and SLC's that are painful to ride... There's just so many of them compared to their custom rides and Disney projects that it makes about two thirds of their coasters rough and painful. I really wish Vekoma would get more requests for new trains on their SLCs as I really like the layout and it's a fun ride but sometimes they're just unbearable. The Gauntlet at Magic Springs isn't too bad, but it is one of the newer ones in the US.
KrakenKing Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Rock n' Rollercoaster at Disney MGM Studio's Deja Vu at Six Flags Over Georgia Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom Twoface: The Flipside at Six Flags America Those four Vekoma rides aren't rough to me.
peter_rowland1 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 In the past 2 months I have ridden Kumali 7 times Tizona 5 times Infusion 6 times all of them with a broken wrist/hand/thumb cant say I found them rough.
Delirium Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 The Vekoma roughness is really only seen on the cloned models like Boomerangs and standard SLCs (but not on the Roller Skater models) Some of their lesser seen models like the motorbikes, flying dutchmans, and launched coasters are said to be more smooth.
palavos3 Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 The Rock N Roller Coaster is pretty smooth, also Hangman at Wild Adventures isn't bad. No Vekoma is as painful as the old Viper at SFGAv. Oh my God was that something!
krouvi Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I rode 2 Vekomas SLC'S : the first is in Walibi Belgium and it was hell !!! Rough and almost made me cry from neck pain I got. The second SLC is in Israel and it's so much better you can enjoy it. Vekoma wooden coaster are good : the one in Belgium and the one in Holland are very comfortable. Actually I can describe the one in Walibi World - smooth.
