stew560 Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 They had this problem yesterday a couple of times. Sometimes it appears that the train doesn't get into position correctly in the launch area and it needs to be manually moved back to the pre-launch area and then back into place on the launch track. Also, the kicker wheel nearest to the launch was having traction problems (most likely due to the water spray from the recoil wheel) Yesterday, however, it was fixed within 10 minutes.
shepp Posted May 19, 2005 Author Posted May 19, 2005 Just got a call from our RideWorld correspondant at the media day... Kingda Ka ran fine for about 2 hours, then it went down. Mechanics have been looking at the catch car in the launch area and haven't been able to get it back up and running. Hopefully they will have it back up later today. He was able to get 5 rides on it though. Big sigh. Y'know, I understand that launch coasters are complex beasts. But so are lots of mechanical marvels, and KK isn't even a protoype. Can you imagine if airplanes ran this dependably? Even Yugos were better bets...
GAcoaster Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 From what I hear, the downtime was less than 1/2 hour.
PhishyBrewer Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 How far is this park from Dorney? I think I need to start looking for airfare.
GAcoaster Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 America West flys into Philly every 2 hours, and you can usually get an airfare (roundtrip from CA) for less than $300.

"I've heard every rumor," said Six Flags spokeswoman Kristin Siebeneicher. "None of it is true. To make things up like that is very malicious." I think the twelve-year-olds that they're talking about are probably a) Actually fourty-year-olds from Coaster/Point Buzz or Cedar Point fanboys. [/url]
socalMAN123 Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 OMG! Kingda Ka is WAY cooler than I expected it to be! I got my mom to watch it (BTW she's like Elissa's mom), and she said she would die in the first second of the ride. My mom even said maybe planning a trip outthere soon so I can ride it! ---Brent 8)

coaster1 Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 I still can't get over those brakes on the top of the top hat ... and right after the apex of the "airtime" hill ... might have to puch SFGAdv back until next year for that INTAMIN woodie however.
ahecht Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 So, has anyone ridden this and TTD? How do they compare? Oh, and to sidetrack a bit, if Cedar Fair was going to let Disney test their rafts, why would they have them do it in Ohio when they could've done it 10 minutes away at Knott's?

Trust me, Don't worry about the brakes. And the "airtime" hill has PLENTY of it!
coasters 4 me Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 from the pictures. The restriants dont seem to be bulky. I thought they would be very bulky and you would lose the experience. But they seem pretty thin at the top half of the restriant.
