Sir Clinksalot
Any indication as to when another NHL team would conceivably be able to sign him? I'm sure it's a few years at least. I didn't see that in the article. But I think Joey's right, he saw the writing on the wall in NJ. In other news, Kings re-sign Martinez. Hopefully Penner is next. http://kings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=677986
Jew
^Kings have $3.1 mil left with Nolan & Lewis most likely going to arbitration. Doubt its happening unless the Kings move one of their 9 defensemen or he takes a discount...
TyRush
I just think he didn't want to play for the Devils...
Jew
^^Since he retired and the Devils are shedding his deal from their books...he'll become an unrestricted free agent in 2018.
Top Thrill Dragster
Well Sideshow Carcillo is now a King and Penner is now a Duck.
TyRush
Well Sideshow Carcillo is now a King and Penner is now a Duck. Thats a bad gain, and a bad lost...so minus 2 Penner is a good Power Forward but Carcillo is just a goon.
Top Thrill Dragster
Penner is only good in the Playoffs. Regular season he sucks. I know Mike and Jeff are happy right now, they got one of their old drinking buddies back. Edited July 17, 2013 by Top Thrill Dragster
Jew
^And their enforcer. No one is going to be crashing the net on Quick this season.
Sir Clinksalot
Between Carbomb and Regehr the Kings are going to put the hurt on some guys this year.
imawesome1124
Carcillo seems to have cleaned up his act from what I've seen of him in Chicago. And I did gain quite a bit of respect for him when I found out he was a Rush fan. He brought the Cup to a concert in Chicago.

TyRush
Still some good players left as UFA's. Will be interesting to see if they are holding out or the fact that they want too much money and teams cannot offer it. Btw if for any reason imaginable George McPhee reads this forum, I have a question for you.... Do you realize the team "lost" this off-season and hasn't gained or even equaled out last years team? Thanks, from Tyler
imawesome1124
^ I think every Caps fan in existence can agree that GMGM is a tool. He's lost all respect from me and will probably never get it back. He's running the franchise into the ground, and he's the reason why we do worse each season. How much will it take for Leonsis to fire that clown? TyRush
Im not sure but he definitely has his head up his booty. He is turning into a not so reputable GM, and turning a team that used to be one of the best (even though we havent done amazing in the playoffs) into a not so good team. Lets just hope Oatsy can pull off a miracle with the team this year
Movieguy
You might think, being a Pens fan, that I'd be disappointed with how they did in the playoffs this year. I'm really not concerned with them winning another cup though. I'm just happy to see them winning again, after enduring that long funk they were in after Mario retired from playing. I feel you guys kinda messed up your team chemistry a bit with the 3 trades. I know they are pros and veterans but i feel like having a young guy excited to play is better than having washed up Morrow in there. And being a player myself and captain, i wouldnt be too happy if a teammate got traded away and a person tried to replace them, especially with how good the Pens were doing! Philrad71
Wow...not even the regular season yet and the Leafs/Sabres rivalry is already picking up full steam! This is the first time I ever recall seeing Ryan Miller in a fight and I would imagine Kessel might just get a fine or a bit of a suspension for slashing at Scott a couple of times with his stick. May have to look into going to check out the regular season game when these two teams meet in Buffalo on 11/16...could be interesting to see how that one turns out! imawesome1124
I'm getting really tired of overtime. All five games we've played have gone to OT, and the first four all went to a SO. On a different note, Holtby played as good as he's ever played last night. This kid could very well be named among the elite goalies in the league (Hank, Quick) in a few years. He's only 24, but he's already so good. He had a weak start last year but I'm guessing it was just nerves. We've got a franchise goalie in him, I hope we keep him for a very long time. Movieguy
^ Maybe they should skip overtime, and go straight into the shootout. I know a lot of hardcore fans are upset by the concept of the shootout, but one thing that discourages potential casual fans for hockey is ties. Americans HATE ties (This is why soccer hasn't really caught on), so I applauded the decision to get rid of them in the NHL. While we're on the subject, I'd like to throw out other ideas to the NHL. - Focus more on the northern states. I know the south is hot property now, but they are football and NASCAR through and through. With a few exceptions (Tampa Bay), nobody gives a damn about hockey down there. I wanna see the Quebec Nordiques and Hartford Whalers rise from the ashes, just like the Winnepeg Jets! - Shorten the playoffs to single knockout. I know it's blasphemy to mention this, but I really do think the NHL (and NBA) playoffs go for way too long. Only hardcore hockey fans still want to watch hockey in the middle of June. The only sport that warrants a best of seven series in the postseason is Baseball. The NFL playoffs and NCAA basketball tournament are terrific, because they always leave you wanting more. - No more lockouts! I apologize in advance to any hardcore fans I might have offended. I'm just a casual fan who worries about the survival of the NHL.
imawesome1124
^ You won't offend any hardcore fans with those points. I do disagree with the playoffs being single knockout, I think the best of 7 series is what makes them so exciting. I agree on focusing on Northern states, I'd really like to see Seattle get a team since their junior team has such a strong fanbase. My opinions on the rule changes for this year. Hybrid icing - Hate it. It's a judgement call most of the time and it still won't prevent injuries. Either do automatic icing or keep it the same as it has been. Goalie pads - I haven't noticed any major difference with this change. Smaller nets - Giving the players more room back behind the net will lead to a lot more Gretzky style assists, which are always fun to watch to me. Jersey tuck - It's about time they did something about that. /sarcasm I think this is the most pointless rule in the NHL, it only affects a handful of players for essentially no change at all.
