RJD Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Ummm... I just moved to Sandusky yesterday and I'm dying to go to Cedar Point, seeing as I can basically see it right from my window. But I digress, I was have been seeing a lot of Cedar Point threads and I just thought I could help cut down on them by creating a Cedar Point Faq so there will be no more redundant questions. I hope this helps, and I hope I'm not being ironic and redundant at the same time by making a thread that has already been made. But anyway enough rambling here are my questions. : How will the lines be the opening day? : Which ride should I run to opening day, Maverick or Top Thrill Dragster : Are there any single rider lines? : How strict is Cedar Point with their loose article policies? Ummm... those are my questions anyone is welcome to post their own.
Wes Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 ^ How could you possibly make a judgment based on a place you've never been?
coastrfreak2000 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 The lines will be HORRIBLE opening day. I seriously doubt it. : How will the lines be the opening day? I would guess from 30- 60 minutes. Maybe more for Maverick. : Which ride should I run to opening day, Maverick or Top Thrill Dragster I would say Maverick. The line will fill up quickly for that because it's new. I only waited an hour for TTD in the middle of July, so you can probably wait until later to ride it. : How strict is Cedar Point with their loose article policies? You cannot bring any loose articles in the queue for Millennium Force or Top Thrill Dragster. Any other ride you can, as they have storage bins on the loading platforms.
texashorns82492 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I've heard about the lines from my friend that used to live up in Ohio. Especially with a new coaster opening, opening day will be packed.
carolinacaniac Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Maverick may be different, but the year MaXair opened, the park didn't seem to be THAT much busier on opening day then it was any other saturday in May. Sure MaXair had a big line (I was working in Kiddy Kingdom for the day), but I heard the rest of the park wasn't that crowded. But you can never really tell, it is possible that Dragster or Millennium will go down, so it cdould add to the other ride lines throughout the park, or Maverick could even be really touchy the first day, it just depends on what happens. And I agree with Wes, it is really hard to say how a place will be if you have not been there before. Sure you can find out what others say, but different people have different views of what a horrible line would be. I for one feel that an Hour and a Half wait for Millennium Force is better than an hour wait for HyperSonic at Kings Dominion. HyperSonic's line is slow moving dues to a lower capacity, where as Millennium's line is usually moving pretty good unless it goes down.
texashorns82492 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Ok, I'm sorry, I was just going by what I've heard.
RJD Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 Thanks for the quick replies. And ummm, I just got back from the Jackson street pier and Cedar is still looking beautiful, oh my god. But anyway, I guess I will go to Maverick first and the Top Thrill, and then Millennium.
Carnage Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 You cannot bring any loose articles in the queue for Millennium Force or Top Thrill Dragster. Any other ride you can, as they have storage bins on the loading platforms. They can sometimes be quite a bit more anal about loose articles. It's a good idea to plan on have no loose articles at all. Or at least cargo pockets to hold small items.
coastrfreak2000 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 They can sometimes be quite a bit more anal about loose articles. I sooo knew you were going to say that.
BarryH Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I went on opening day when TTD first opened. TTD had a 4 hour line right at opening. I was one of the first to ride during their charity event. The rest of the coasters had less than a 15 minute wait for the first few hours of park opening. I assume on opening day, most people will run to Maverick first.
Saecron Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 My understanding is that lines will begin forming for Maverick at 4:30 in the morning on opening day. You will NOT get on Maverick opening day, I can almost assure it. Roller coasters draw a LOT larger crowds than "rides" rides. The world has seen screaming swings and deleriums before, but we haven't seen a "coaster" line at cedar point for 4 years now. We've all gotta stretch our minds to remember what it was like when TTD opened. Maverick's opening day won't be much better. You guys remember when millennium force opened up? For the first month, the lines were 6 hours long on peak days. During the 4th of july celebration, it was expected to reach 9 hours. Remember that Cedar Point has no express pass of any sort, so the only way to ride is to get in line with everyone else. Take my advice: appreciate new coasters for how short they make the lines for the other coasters. Give it a few days, and Maverick will definitely have some a short and sweet line you can just jump in casually. For the first few, however, don't even bother. Just take the opportunity to ride M-force and TTD as much as you want while the crowds are drawn away. Oh, and by the way, for those that haven't been on one of the older intamin's: if you're overweight, drop some pounds now . Cedar Point is VERY strict on their seat belt policy, and M-force and TTD have some of the tightest seat belts I've ever seen. Don't bring any thick jackets, and don't overstuff your pockets. Less is more.
Carnage Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 ^ MF and TTD's lines however were bigger because they were the largest in the world at the time. They were huge draws. Maverick doesn't have nearly as much of a media hype going for it. It'll probably have longer lines, but I wouldn't think they'd be as bad as MF and TTD.
scooterdoug Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Thanks, RJD, for starting this thread. With all the CP questions that have beep popping up, this makes perfect sense. Before I get to my question, I would like to impart my experience at CP. I went last September. From my experience, I would say to hit Maverick and MF first. TTD takes a while to wake up in the morning and probably won't be open when you first arrive. From what I remember, they have don't open it until each of the trains makes it over the Top Hat 3 times empty (correct me if I'm wrong, as I have only been there once). Keep an eye on TTD as you ride other rides in the AM (it's easy to see from anywhere in the park as it is so tall), and go to it the second you see a train launch with riders. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a rollback. My first ride ever on TTD was a rollback...in the front seat to boot! Without a doubt, that was the shining highlight of the day. So, now for my question. I am seriously considering heading to CP in May as well. I have a free roundtrip ticket on Southwest Airlines, and this seems like an excellent way to use it. I definitely expect larger crowds when the park first opens. Once can probably predict a veritable mob scene on opening weekend. However, what will it look like mid-week after opening weekend? Will the crowds be bad on, say, Tuesday, May 15 (the park opens Saturday, May 12)? Would the following week be better? Obviously, I have no plans on going during the weekend...I'm thinking only mid-week. So, oh knowledgable TPRers , what can I expect mid-week the first and/or second week the park is open? Thank you all in advance for your suggestions. -Doug
RJD Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 Oh my god, I never expected this thread to reach two pages. One thing I don't get is how people could line up at the ride at four am. Did you mean line up at the gate? Because in that case I might as well just have my way with Millennium Force and all those other good rides. I have one more question though. : Can you buy your season pass before the park opens and enter the park when they open they open their gates? Or are you required to get it processed or something after everyone rushes in? I ask this because Magic Mountains processing station is located inside the park and it would be a real pain to have to watch the line for Maverick grow to enormous times before I can even be allowed to go ride the rides.
PKI Jizzman Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 : Can you buy your season pass before the park opens and enter the park when they open they open their gates? Yup! The tickets and processing is to the left of the entrance gates.
RJD Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 Great, awsome! I'm gonna get my rollercoaster on... mhm mhm mhm.
Carnage Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 You don't even have to buy your season pass at the park. Last time I bought a pass I bought the voucher at Maiers.
RJD Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 God, I just hope that Maverick isn't closed, the lines will be killer I suppose.
PKI Jizzman Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 LIM coasters dont break down much compared to Intamin Accel coasters. Italian Job at KI is down some of the time, but if it is, it is little periods of time ranging from 10 min to 5 hours. I doubt it will be broken down or closed, dont worry about that!
RJD Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 I've got it, sense everyone in town knows that Cedar Point is opening in May, and most are sure of the date I'm just going to forgo Maverick on Saturday and get practically Ert on every ride in the park.... Other than Maverick of course. Then on Sunday I'm assuming that sense a lot of people got their chance on Maverick the day before, and it's a church day, not a lot of people will be at the park. But of course I'm not going to spend my day waiting in a slightly shorter line than the day before, I'll just get more rides on every roller coaster in the park and jump in line for Maverick right before closing. I'm smart huh, I know I know. Finally I might skip school on Monday just to get a day ride on the new "family" coaster and to just bask in the Tpr veil that has been draped over the park. Haha, some of you guys are such dorks, I can't pass up the chance to run into you.... Maybe I might even pose. I dunno. To any one that's coming on the fifteenth, see ya there!
PKI Jizzman Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Going to CP on a week day will be heaven. There was a PTR that showed the minimal lines for Dragster, MF, and everything...I will have to do that soon.
texashorns82492 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 If you can, you might want to skip Maverick the day you go. You might waste half of your day in line. But, with Maverick opening, that may also mean less lines at the other rides.
PKI Jizzman Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 There is no way Maverick will get an hour over three hours. And as far as other rides go? Millennium Force may be longer since it is on the way to Maverick. I would say everthing opposite of the park will be dead. Have fun marathoning Magnum and TTD! If you havent been to the park before, I suggest you dont post here.

The park is a circle, you can certainly get to Maverick without passing MF. I have not heard of too many people marathoning TTD in the past. Opposite the park - do you mean Canada? and you suggest that others not post here! I suggest that people who have English as a native language and can not write coherently should not post here.
