Fallen Heretic Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Im just curious about this. A couple of weeks ago I took up Kamon Wing Chun. Two classes a week. I am really enjoying it. Its the first martial art Ive ever studied. I took it up for the same reasons as many do. I wanted to get fitter and learn to defend myself. It got me thinking. Are there any other folks here who study any kind of martial arts? If so, what ones? Why did you take it up and what do you feel you get out of it?
GeorgiaDawg278 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I've been out of practice for a while now, but I have a black belt in American Kenpo Karate.

Guest Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I have a black belt in American Kempo. Just a first degree. I didn't feel the need to spend a crap load more money for 9 more degrees of a black belt.
speedracer Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Actually just started training last week in Aikido, a Japanese self-defense martial art. Just looking to get back into shape, and being able to hold my own in any situation should I need to. Besides that, really is fascinating the philosophy and technique behind it all: http://www.aikido-of-sanjose.org/bodymindselfdefense.html
weeow Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I have never taken any martial arts classes but I have always found Aikido to be very interesting. I like philosophy behind it as well.
pete4winds Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I studies Aikido briefly about ten years ago while I was living in Japan, but I never took it back up when I returned to the states for a lack of studios in my area. Nowadays I study Capoeira, a Brazilian martial arts dance (also known as The Dance of War).
weeow Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 It appears that I am going to have to take Aikido starting very soon. Any tips? What should I expect?
the sound Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 ^ My freind does Aikido. He showed us a few times, and i think its mainly just sort of Blocking rather than attacking. I did Tae-Kwon-Do for a term, and i learnt enough for mme to get a yellow belt/beat up an attacker, which was what the course was made for.
downunder Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I am currently san dan (third degree black) in shotokan karate, though I compete at National and International level in all styles tournaments.
holyblakbelt Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Obviously I do. I am a first degree in Songham Taekwando
