Jayjay719 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Nice photo trip report! I really want to go to Coney Island. Isn't this season the last season? If so, whats going to happen to Cyclone? Thanks for the update!
CycloneMan Posted February 26, 2007 Author Posted February 26, 2007 The City bought the Cyclone, so we'll see what happens to it. -Dainan "It is a Landmark" Rafferty
alanjonesbath Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 We'll be going to Coney Island while we're in NY in June. Didn't even realise it was potentially closing
CycloneMan Posted February 26, 2007 Author Posted February 26, 2007 Well, Astroland, and Coney Island Rides are going, but Denos did not sell. But, there kiddie park (the money maker) is on a lease! -Dainan "But Cyclone will still (hopefully) operate" Rafferty
IwantRevenge Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 honestly I don't see why people think the cyclone will go. its a national landmark! they wouldn't remove a national landmark.
Jayjay719 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 The City bought the Cyclone, so we'll see what happens to it. -Dainan "It is a Landmark" Rafferty I hope they keep it operating. I still need that credit!
hifalling Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I NY! There is soooo much to do! I can't believe that I havnt been to Astroland. I have been to NY sooo many times! One of these days I will get there! BTW... Would you like some bird with your burger? I hate SEAGULLS. That seagull is taunting me! Please Remove it! Just Kidding! Great Photo:TR!
CycloneMan Posted February 26, 2007 Author Posted February 26, 2007 Ha, thanks guys. And actually, NYC can remove a landmark if they really wanted to! Or they could just have it dorement (SBNO). -Dainan "Which it better not come to!" Rafferty
verticalzero Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I read in the European Coaster Club magazine, the Cyclone will be staying, all the surrounding area around the cyclone will be cleared and a new centre will replace it. I'm sure NYC will not scrap the "Cyclone" yet, there would be 2 much of an up-roar if they did. April 1st = April Fool opening day Has the Wonder Wheel and Parachute Drop been saved by the City..? Is that a "Big Boy" Burger outlet, are they as nice as Wendy's or Burger King.
CycloneMan Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 The Parachute and Wonder Wheel have been saved. Intamin looked at the Parechute after they tore it down and rebuilt it. But no chance of reoperation in a while! -Dainan "But it looks nice" Rafferty
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I will get on that pesky Cyclone this year. It escaped me the last time I was there. Lazy a$$ ride opps. It rained for like an hour before the park opened so they decided to close for the day. Bastards! No credit for you!
Ryan King Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I love how your coat just says "Guy" Poor Guy...youll get it soon! -Ryan
verticalzero Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Why can't the owners or Intamin open "The Parachute" soon..? Are there 2 many legal issues with it.
CycloneMan Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 I will get on that pesky Cyclone this year. It escaped me the last time I was there. Lazy a$$ ride opps. It rained for like an hour before the park opened so they decided to close for the day. Bastards! My uncle is the manager of the ride, and I've actually operated it. And it's not up to the ops, it's up to Astroland. Also, the Parachute is owned by the city (nuff' said), and Intamin said they couldn't work on it, but I'm not fill on te details. -Dainan "Family from Coney Island" Rafferty
Mark Rosenzweig Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Well, Astroland, and Coney Island Rides are going, but Denos did not sell. But, there kiddie park (the money maker) is on a lease! -Dainan "But Cyclone will still (hopefully) operate" Rafferty Cyclone is not going anywhere. It has been owned by the NYC Parks Dept and leased to Astroland ownership since the late 1970s, when it reopened after several years of SBNO status. The Alberts family (owners of Astroland) renewed their ten year operation lease on the ride last year and have stated they intend on sticking to it. -Mark
