benzo41190 Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I have been to Cedar Point once a year for like ten years but I have not been on Disaster Transport for like four years. Has it changed at all, I saw that you can were special glasses on the ride (from Cedar Points getaway guide, there was a picture) Thanks
CoasterFanatic Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 They sell prismatic glasses for like $1 a pair, but they are pretty worthless. Changes: - Less effects work - There is no storyline - The queue has shrunk (they do a spookhouse in some of it) - It is much more disco It is pretty ghetto these days. Reminds me of a roller skating rink from the early 80's.
FlyingScooter Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 ^ That's pretty accurate! lol They use to have a story for it?!?!? man, i missed that one!
CoasterFanatic Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 ^ They sure did. It was something like this: - There was a company called "Dispatch Master Transport" - You were touring the facilities and a robot greeted you and gave you a speil - The robot was a working animatronic and looked a little like the Alien Encounter (WDW) figure - You toured two seperate themed queues (forgot the first and then the workshop) - You were to board a vessel on it's way to Canada (smuggling coke or something) - Somewhere along the way, everything went wrong until you eventually "crashed" at the end // Any similarity between the contents of this ride and Star Tours is completely coincidental and not intended. No animals were hurt in the posting of this message.[/img]
benzo41190 Posted May 4, 2005 Author Posted May 4, 2005 when we went on there was no line so we didnt really get to see or hear anything of the story.
CoasterFanatic Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 ^ There hasn't been much story since around 92-93
Twister II Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 actually I heard that they brought back 'some' of the queue rooms and brought back for sure the sounds.
benzo41190 Posted May 4, 2005 Author Posted May 4, 2005 I will have to see how different the ride is. BTW- Does Cedar Point have strict video taping policies. This is the first year with MY OWN video camera(it is digital and has steady shot). I had digital camera but I was way to shaky to see anything.
Carnage Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 - You were to board a vessel on it's way to Canada (smuggling coke or something) Last time I checked Alaska wasn't part of Canada. benzo41190: Very strict camera policy. You can't film on any ride. Well almost none. You can on the train ride, sky ride, etc. But not on any thrill ride/coaster.
CoasterFanatic Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Last time I checked Alaska wasn't part of Canada. That's what I meant. I always get my cold/inhabitable locations mixed up.
Movieguy Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I was on DT once, and that was enough. No matter how much theming they put into that thing, it doesn't change the fact that the coaster itself is too short of a ride. they should have just built a new coaster indoors, but I guess that would have cost too much for them.
PhishyBrewer Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 They sell prismatic glasses for like $1 a pair, but they are pretty worthless. Reminds me of a roller skating rink from the early 80's. They tried to hard to make it like "Star Tours" I'll liked the old bobsled
kenshinmac Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I liked the air conditioning... It was very nice to be in there... It was practically walk on so I rode it a few times and enjoyed the cool air in the queue.
coaster1 Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 At least it gives them another ride they can run in rain, since most bobsleds close at the first hint of moisture.
Carnage Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 ^ Actually DT closes in the rain just like any bobsled. The reason is that when it rains the water goes through vents in the ceiling and falls onto the track.
Twister II Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 No it doesnt. When a rainstorm came when I was there it still was open. I can't belive you guys, ranting on DT. I loved that coaster! Its sooooo cool!!!
coaster1 Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 It was open during the rain when we were there last in October, TTD and Raptor were closed due to winds and MF was closed due to rain .. DT was open and had a rather long line.
CoasterFanatic Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Elissa, can I count Avalanche Run and Disaster Transport as two seperate credits J/K
SharkTums Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 That's it! I've just taken 4 credits off of your list for being annoying! Elissa "keep it up and you'll have a negative coaster count!" Alvey
josephwanek Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Yeah they closed DT when it was raining a few years ago. We decided to go on that because of the rain but they had shut it down.
