...The heck?

On this photo I found...

 

there is something weird on the left side of the picture. it kind of looks like a steel wire fence, only seeing how distant it is, it looks like it's a mile tall and two miles wide... what the heck is that?

I think it might be a golf course Well a driving range any way. Because space is limited in Japan, they build these with huge fences around them so balls don't fly out and smash people who live close to it windows.

That´s one of the many, giant Baseball or Golf batting spaces which you will find all over japan.

Because of the limited space in the cities you´ll find those things on top of buildings or wherever there are neighbors or streets nearby.

There's a fun center around where I live with huge nets like that, so this is probably a sports related facility.

Yeah, it's a driving range.....one of the crazy things about Japan is they have these *INSANE* golfing ranges EVERYWHERE!!!

 

Here's a 2 story one:

 

Some of the driving stalls were 5 stories tall! HUGE places where hundreds of people could golf at one time.

 

It's one of those examples where "If you don't have a lot of land.....build vertically!"

Yeah, I saw one (not that tall) somewhere in Mississippi. They can be somewhat intimidating, and this certain one was abandoned, so that added to the effect a little.
