CoasterJunkie Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Saw this article this morning. Wonder what will happen Seminole Indians Buy Hard Rock
stormrider Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 The park is licensing the rights to use the name and has signed contracts and such. But if they have to remove the Hard Rock monicer, then the park would still be themed to Rock 'n' Roll, just no Hard Rock references, I'd think...
DATman Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 The sale isn't final until next year, so I doubt it will have a very noticeable effect on the park.
Astat Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Hmm, to me it sounds more like Hard Rock is just changing ownership. There was nothing in that article that really indicated that the Seminoles are going to change the name/change much of anything about the franchise. And I think with a purchase of this magnitude, any licensing contracts would also be turned over to the Seminoles, so the park might not even be affected. On a personal note, they should've just given me Jimi's Flying V.
raptorcrew2002 Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Question? So does this mean they won't have to pay taxes on the property's? I know they have some exemptions with there casino property's, just wondering how that works in buying other company's? Be interesting to see how it works out, kind of seems like a 50/50 outcome as for good and or bad. Cheers! *Wonders* So if they have a coaster with lots of head choppers, do you think they will name it the scalper?
larrygator Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 ^business has to be conducted on an Indian rservation to be tax free. For example to Pequot Nation first had to register/establish their land in Connecticut as a reservation and then have the casino built.
Gnome Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Do these people actually appreciate what Hard Rock stands for or are they just doing it for the business aspect is the real question. And if thats the case, then why Hard Rock?
KBNA777 Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Why Hard Rock? Because it was available. It's not like they are going to take it and burn all the rock stuff and change the layout of the facilities. You have to remember they are not buying it to lose money or close the places, they did not buy Six Flags. They are/were smart enough to make the money on the casinos and are now going to expand on them.
OFortuna Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 The choice of the Hard Rock property isn't simply because its available. The hotel/casino sitting on the Seminole's property is the brand new (or, at least, really close to brand new) Seminole Hard Rock/Casino-Hotel. Their chief interest in the name/properties is the gaming aspect, as most of the Seminoles' current interests revolve around that. For instance, also this week, their promotional fight group Warrior's Boxing recieved their license to promote shows in Las Vegas. Its probably not a coincidence that it was announced that they now own the Hard Rock there as well. As for the park, I wouldn't worry. Its too far ahead with too many contracts on the table for them to give up suddenly. This has likely been several years in the making.
MisterP Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Guess it was a matter of time before the Native Americanc forked out the dough to run the one business that competes with the OTHER obnoxiously over-blown t-shirt seller: Ron Jon Surf Shop Third Place: Joe's Crab Shack
