Greetings From LucasArts

Recommended Posts

Chris, Sorry to jump on the bandwagon so late, 5 days after this game launched. But, I think LucasArts did a decent job on something non-Star Wars related. No offense, Star Wars is great but sometimes I get tired of it!

I just wanted to say congratulations and I hope to see more Theme Park related stuff from LucasArts in the future.

Take care, Chris.

Best of Luck.

Chris Benvenuto (This is my real name, no joke!)

EDIT: P.S. if this is the LucasArts I'm thinking of the LucasArts that worked on Star Wars or am I possibly wrong?

Great Job once again!

Glad you like the game, Chris. And yes, we're the same LucasArts that's been known to make a Star Wars game or two (or three or four or five or six...)

I am sure you already realize that you have to compete with the already strong legacy that is Roller Coaster Tycoon, but from what I have been told from several people, Thrillville focuses on more than just theme parks, and that might not enthrall those looking for a coaster designer, especially when you can already do that with no minigames in Roller Coaster Tycoon. I am not trying to be negative, but I figured I might bring this to your attention.

Hello everyone,

My name's Chris, and I work for LucasArts helping to promote Thrillville, our upcoming theme-park game. I understand if you consider this message as "spam," but we have genuine intentions of reaching out to all theme-park enthusiasts and actually speak directly with you as much as possible, and this seems like the perfect vehicle for such a thing. I'm going to try and check back here every day until the game's release on Nov. 21 (maybe even later), and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your interest!

A few things to note:

The official website is http://www.thrillvillegame.com

And here are a couple of videos about Thrillville:

And if you're wondering how it relates to the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, the developer Frontier has done an excellent job establishing itself as a premier developer of theme-park games with RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and its expansion pack. It continues this excellent pedigree with Thrillville, but in an entirely different way. Unlike RCT3, which has thrived on the PC platform, Thrillville has been designed from the ground up as a console game, including a different way of handling all building mechanics, plus more console-friendly activities such as minigames. At the same time, the game is in no way a "dumbed-down" version of a PC theme-park experience -- it's just a totally different approach.

Best,

Chris

Chris,

How did LucasArts come up with the name for its' new game?

are you in charge of paths or are they set in place?
They're set in place. I've only just unlocked the 2nd park so don't know if paths come up as a research option later in the game but I imagine they wouldn't. As said earlier, with the last park when you have finished it, you're able to tweak it to your heart's content - don't know if this would extend to parks though.

Chris, if you're still around, I love the fact there are different parks to unlock and they seem so different. I don't know why but I had the impression it would be just the one park with six zones unlocked one-by-one. And this game's really fun to play. Completely different thing to RCT3 but a game like that wouldn't have worked on a console/PSP.

I own the PS2 version and will be buying the PSP version for the Theme Park Review trips next year For those bus rides between parks

Thrillville looks exactly like RCT3 are they related? (if its been answered before sorry)

Yes they are related in the sense that it both games were developed by Frontier, but each game is very different in that one is meant more as a "park and coaster resource management game" and the other is a "Family entertainment" game.

BTW, did anyone pick up the game over the holidays?

I got the game over break but i have a question. Why can i only have one person on my staff team at once when i get to the second parks and on i can only have like one mechanic and thats it no groundskeeper and no entertainer is that whats suppose to happen and why does it happen if its suppose to happen and also if this isnt suppose to happen how am i suppose to fix it? also how do you change the song thats playing or can you not do that because i have yet to find where i can change the song. also for a suggestion if you make a second one or enhance or something to the first u definitely need to add more songs to it espicially hip song of that time and if you need help choosing them this site can always help. but for good things it was actually a really fun game and lots to do and explore and build but the areas seem a little small and hard to build two roller coasters/race tracks that are actually good and long but thats just my opinion. anyways good job and hope a second one comes out already.

I got it in my stocking and luckily found this thread first before playing it, since I was thinking this would be RCT3 for PS2 which it really isn't. The game is alright, it's not bad, but I feel is lacking that RCT feel where you're in control of everything including path placement and scenary. I like being able to talk to anyone and everyone that visits the park, however I'm not fond of how 'unreal' these conversations feel. For example, when would a 9 year old have such an expanded vocabulary and able to understand such a random fact? And when would some girl that told you to go away after a hug attempt then turn around and say how you've just talked about her favorite marsupial? I mean, if you're supposted to talk with them to help you understand how your park is doing, and all they reply with is: "It's great, don't change a thing" doesn't seem satisfying. I guess I'll take that as I'm doing my job well then?

Pros:

-Gameplay is easy, anyone can build their own themepark and talk to people with no trouble at all.

-Easy to build coasters without worrying about them being 'realistic', not having to worry about if it'll complete the circuit or if it'll slam back into the station, it does it all on it's own.

-Able to play your own mini golf games and race your own tracks. This might not be that big of a deal for some, but it means a lot to me having that ability to enjoy my creation the way it's supposted to be enjoyed.

Cons:

-Since building the themepark is idiot-proof, it lacks that RCT feel most of us love

-Feels like this game is more about the numerous mini games it contains rather than running a theme park. It'll make you challenge a guest to beat this certain high score in order to advance. So this does become a problem for those who don't like certain types of mini games and want to complete the game.

-The 'power' allowence I feel is lower than it should be, since I have a coaster and a kart track in one area, and there's room for one carnival ride and a stall, and I've got plenty more room in other build zones, but if I want more, I have to either get rid of the coaster or track, or shorten them both to save 'power'. Maybe there's enough power to go around to make the park full, but if you've got both coasters filled around the build zones and you have space to keep building, wouldn't it make sense to allow you to continue building there so it doesn't look like a zoo of supports?

I think I've got it all covered? I'm almost done completing the game, just need to go back through the rest of the parks and get all gold coins, which I would find challenging with some of these mini games they're asking me to complete. Overall I think it's a good game if you're wanting to have fun without worrying about being as realistic as RCT. I wonder if there'll be a happy medium in between thrillville and RCT?
