okinawaboy11 Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 So I'm getting my licence tomorrow and I'm freaking out. Sure I've passed my drivers ed classes, got the 60+ hours of driving that Maryland requires for permit holders. What I'm so worried about is...Parallel parking. My instructor showed me how to do it, but lets just say, he shouldn't be teaching drivers ed. So, do ya'll have any tips? Other than that all I have to do is a 3-point turn and back up 100 feet. Also, share your drivers test experiences! (If you have any )
BiCoastal Kid Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 On mine, all I had to do was parallel park and drive around the block, basically.... yeah. Take your test in GA!
lapseofreason Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 All I can say is, good luck! Watch around you and stuff. Just remember what your driving teacher said and what you did in practice and you'll be fine. -Amanda "I still need to learn to drive, and I'm 23.. insert pathetic jokes here" V.
Homer Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Don't brake and accelerate suddenly. Any type of sudden movement would take precious points off. In other words, drive like an old person... Oh well, in Florida, paralell parking has gone the way of the dodo.
Masked_Maverick Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I don't know if you have a manueverability or parralell parking part to the test before the road test but in either cases use your mirrors. They are very helpful when taking the test just pay attention to your surroundings and you should be ok. I remember when I got my licens I had to do manueverability and I was looking at each mirror as if I were a parakeet and Good Luck.
niiicolaaah Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Hahaha. I remember parallel parking on my road test. I had been practicing on small streets with only 1 car in front, and on my road test i was on a busy 4 lane street and had to parallel park between two cars. I was so mad. lol. I still passed though.
FlyingScooter Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Best of luck! I remember getting mine. We had to parallel park and do a manuverabilty test along with regular driving. The only problem i had was using my turn signals too early before a turn.
ParkTrips Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Parallel parking has to be the most overrated thing ever. Its sooo easy once you are comfortable with your car... - Joe, who shockingly has a clean license
Carnage Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I'm not sure how the system works in the US, but in Canada you can still pass if the instructor thinks you're a good enough driver. I completely butchered my paralell parks on my two driving tests(there's two tests you have to do in Ontario). I still passed both tests easilly.
mcjaco Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Parallel parking has to be the most overrated thing ever. Its sooo easy once you are comfortable with your car... - Joe, who shockingly has a clean license Do you want me to start postings pictures of the morons in my neighborhood? They've lived in the same neighborhood all their lives and still can't parallel park. My favorites are the ones that "bitch park" and take up two spaces, just because they can.
SharkTums Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Yeah I wouldn't worry too much. From what I understand the only way people fail is by doing stupid little things, like forgetting to put on your seatbelt or not checking your mirrors! In Florida the test is SUPER EASY! It's a little cute course (not even real streets!) No Parallel Parking either! The coolest part is they want to see you make a sudden stop so you accelerate up to 30mph, then the guy will yell out, 'stop' and you have to stop safely and quickly without skidding! I had to take the test in my mom's minivan! Ahh, memories!
Carnage Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 ^ Sounds the same as here. You basically pass unless you break a law, or do something really stupid. My brother failed one of his tests because he hit one of those cardboard cutouts. Instructor told him he failed, so he kicked the guy out of his car and made him walk back.
okinawaboy11 Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 Ha so here's the news. Got it, not one point taken off. Surprisingly I did perfect So time to celebrate..... freedom. Thanks for all the pointers! P.s. my licence has crabs! Parrrrtay.
RayOfLight Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 How much does a drivers ed cost over there? If you have pactice droven privatly a lot before starting, you can get it from $2500 but many people pay over $3500 for it here...
okinawaboy11 Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 I payed $300 US dollars exactly.
disneyfan1313 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Congrats! I'm with Elissa - I learned how to drive in FL as well so I never learned how to parallel park! I still cant do it worth a damn and will drive way out of my way to find a normal parking spot. /parallel parking wimp
mb425 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Congrats! Enjoy it now before your parents have you go everywhere to pick things up for them! By the way, I too cannot parallel park, we don't have to do that in Ohio. All I had to do was drive in a big circle in a neighborhood and then do maneuverability. My test took about 5 minutes (although to take the driving test you need 24 hours of drivers ed and 8 hours of in car driving lessons, as well as having to pass 2 written tests).
mcjaco Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Very cool. Now you only have two more birthdays of any significance left, 18 and 21. It's all downhill from there. Seriously people, parallel parking isn't that difficult. You have to do it if you get a license in the Chicagoland area, and people still can't do it....pathetic. EDIT: Small note: this is my 500th post!
okinawaboy11 Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 haha, thanks all. This means ¡Más viaje de la Foto informa! And for those of you that don't speak Espanol...That means More Photo TR's (Usually all I post is SFA or PKD, if any.)
