Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

It's cool to know that Steel Venom is one of only two impulses with an active holding brake, it makes Valleyfair more special. Now if the ride op would psych you out on the launch instead of a standard countdown, imagine how much more thrilling that would be for new riders. Then the holding brake at the end? Gaaaah!

It looks like there's a huge pipe sticking out of the waterslide pad facing the midway, like six guys are working on it. Could this be a root pipe in preparation for future waterpark expansion in the next few years in the direction it faces?

Never mind, they seem to have other plans for it.

^ The midway path's did not need to be that much wider, they just needed to fix that bottle-neck corner caused by the bathroom and old patio. It will not be perfect but it should be much improved with the extra width added to the pathway. With the cement paths put down today (bummer, no pavers but at least it is not asphalt) they left a part 'open' right at the corner, does anyone know if this will be a new entrance to the waterpark? Any guesses? It is starting to look that way. If they do put an entrance/exit to the waterpark there then the added pathway width at the corner may not help as much.

Maybe they're not too concerned because there are going to be more changes in that area.

There's a chance that they will eventually move the Soak City entrance to that spot between the new slides and splash pad, and use the old entrance walk as additional space for future slides. It's a nice, long and narrow strip of land, perfect for long slides. Maybe some mat racers?

And even the concept art showed people using a path between the splash pad and slides.....

There may still be brick pavers going over the cement base! It looks like there is a small height difference on the left from the cement to the bricks, and they do make thin paver bricks solely for laying over cement. I imagine the cement would prevent the bricks from heaving during thaws and melts in the Minnesota winters. Fingers crossed!

The water park entrance is still the same on the 2015 map, but I think it is very likely for the future.

^ Renegade has arguably the longest line in the park on most days so many people will still be going back there. If they need to relocate the entrance for new slides i'm all for it. There has been days where Wild Thing is a walk on and Renegade has a 30 minute wait, so no worries about merchandise. For the next coaster, I think VF should move Wheel of Fortune to the Wild Thing turnaround, and the food booths to Picnic Point. That way they can fit a station in the area they have been giving lots of attention to. The coaster will also have lots of different ways it could go then: snake around Renegade and Thunder Canyon, or go behind High Roller. The flood zone shouldn't be a big issue, otherwise Excalibur and Renegade would not have been built. I know there are lots of places for a coaster to go, but this seems most logical to me. VF won't have to remove or interfere with other rides and that area will now have Soak City, Renegade, Mad Mouse, Looping Starship, and 2016/17 coaster. This is all going out on a limb, but it seems logical to me. Anyone see obvious flaws? let me know!

I can easily see an invert between Renegade and High Roller--except for that pesky backstage area which would cost millions to rebuild in another spot (but that would open up a lot of options).

I think an invert between Excalibur and Thunder Canyon is not outside the realm of possibility. I just hope it would be more than a coaster in a field. Landscaping and trees please! And talk about making people walk past all the food stands...I'm surprised that there isn't a bigger coaster back there already.

Just a thought, it has been suggested on here that VF could possibly get a floorless coaster in the near future, but to be honest, I'd actually prefer a B&M sitdown over a floorless coaster. This is because I generally hear better things about sitdown coasters than most floorless coasters (ex. Kumba/Hulk/Dragon Khan better than Kraken/Bizarro/Superman: Krypton). Maybe not the most likey scenario since it has been a while since the last sitdown coaster was built, but not impossible either.

I think a floorless would be better simply because Valleyfair has all sitdown coasters now (except Steel Venom). We could use some coasters that put the rider in different positions to help diversify the line-up.

I agree that B&M sitdowns are generally more awesome, but there are some killer floorless coasters out there. I really enjoyed Kraken myself, it's a great ride, and sticking your feet out while riding is more fun than it should be. Having a similar experience at Valleyfair would be great for the area.

I think if Valleyfair gets an invert, a floorless, and a flyer--they don't have to be huge, just fun and thrilling--we'll be ready for more sitdown coasters.

....A full circuit launched sitdown can come anytime though, we need one so badly...and a custom RMC can come whenever too, love those crazy hybrid wood coasters.

I think the current coaster collection is a great pool of basics for beginners, but we're ready for some unique experiences.

^ You have to keep in mind that Valleyfair isn't close to the top of the Cedar Fair chain so if they do decide to build a coaster it won't be huge and expensive like a wing rider or a flying coaster. RMC is out of the question at this point because if Cedar Fair did decide to put one on a coast they would put one at one of the big parks. The biggest bet right now is a pretty small invert like a flight deck.

We're not on a coast, we're in the heart of the upper Midwest. And the market here is growing as the Twin Cities boom. I think that's why Valleyfair was listed as a growth park. I'm not expecting huge coasters, just good ones.

I imagine a flyer at Valleyfair being a Vekoma Stingray--low capacity, extremely compact footprint, but unique enough to intrigue the crowds and give them more options. We don't have space for an invert larger than Flight Deck or Talon, I have no illusions about that, and I doubt we'd get one larger than Patriot. But it doesn't have to be huge to be fun and well-designed. Our largest coaster isn't our best coaster anyway. We may even wind up with an SLC as much as that idea is reviled...but the park wouldn't be worse for having one.

I wouldn't put a small RMC outside the realm of possibility, but it probably wouldn't come in the next five years, as I'm sure RMC is booked with more Six Flags projects coming down the pipeline. They're probably cheaper than a B&M, especially if Cedar Fair decides to go for a package deal and get multiple coasters like Six Flags has been doing. But I'm just speculating there.

Valleyfair would be expected to have an inverting wood coaster if both SFGA and Mount Olympus have one, as those are the parks we compete against.

I am not really sure how "growth park" translates into a small SLC. I think this park has lots of potential and a few good rides could turn it around. A small B&M next year, a full circuit launch, RMC if possible, I can't wait to see what VF will be like in 15 years. In other thoughts, do you all think a giga is possible like 20 years down the line? Kings Island and maybe Knotts are probably going to get them in the next 5 years, and after that do you all think they will add Gigas to parks like Dorney, WoF, and VF? Or do you think they will be done with gigas. We got a hyper 7 years after CP. It is different times, but is it still possible?
