What is with all of the moaning about coasters in Japan. I have been to 19 parks and ridden 62 coasters there and I think that many of Japan's coasters are on the same level as many of the American rides. Sure, there are some Asian designed rides that aren't that great, but there are coasters in America that aren't very good either. Memorable coasters I have ridden in Japan include Bandit and Standing and Loop Coaster at Youmiuri Land, Thunder Dolphin at La Qua, BMX at Kobe Portopialand, Orochi at Expoland, Shutle Loop and Ultra Twister at Nagashima Spaland, Elf at Hirakata Park, Venus and Titan at Space World and several others. I must add that the whole Harmonyland experience is great.

You're sure you're not getting "moaning about coasters in Japan" confused with "groaning about Togo coasters in the United States," right?

Just wondering, since I've seen very little complaining of Japanese coasters, although I admit I'm prolly not here as much as most people.

From what I have read, many people seem to be unhappy happy with the overall quality of Japan's coasters. Sure there have been many people wholike certain rides, but there appears to be a lot of complaining. Togo coasters aren't that bad. I love the collection of Togos at Youmuiri Land. The three Togo standups at the Paramount parks are my only North American experieneces with Togos and I enjoyed them. Altogether, I have been on about ten Togo coasters (that I know of) and the ride experience on them hasn't been bad at all. Some of the Meshio coasters can be rough though like the looping coaster at Kijima.

Well when SD2K may reopen, people will love japanese coasters

Serious, I think Japans coasters are different from Americains. There's only one word to say about this difference: obscure. Japans coasters are so strange. But that's just my opinion.

While I've seen a lot of people point out the uniqueness of Japan's coasters, I don't think I've seen a lot of complaining about them. If it's Americans that are "moaning" about them, most of them have probably never actually ridden one, and add to that the fact that this country is full of B&Ms, Intamins, CCI's, GCI's.... we're just spoiled.

I personally find Japan's parks and coasters very interesting and wish I could make the 2007 trip out there.

To me it seems like theres alot of pointless coasters in Japen. By that I mean coasters that does a whole lot of nothing, like the many Jet Coaster's there are over there. Large coasters, but the hills are so shallow I dont even know if they can be called drops.

But there are definately many interesting coasters in Japan aswell...

Uh just for the record, I loved SD2000. I think it's a lot better than MF.

I'm not sure where this moaning came from, but I for one would much rather be doing parks in Japan than most US parks any day! Just look at the amount of updates we've done from Japanese parks! We certainly aren't "moaning."

Sure, we joke around about a lot of stuff, and if you don't understand our sense of humor you might take it as moaning, but we love Japan!

It seems like they fit alot more coasters in a California sized country than California fits into itself. Maybe the cheap designs allow more rides to be built there. I sometimes find myself looking at intersting Japanese rides on RCDB when I don't have time to do anything better, it's fun to see what quirky coasters they have. I found the most disgusting coaster I've ever seen there:

It looks like the ride is covered in bird crap. But some of their rides are beautiful to look at (all white, though. . . ) It's just, not what I'm used to seeing. One day, I'll ride them as well (hopefully they don't get rougher, though).

Here's another old rusted park, no wonder it's not existing anymore

However, here's a good looking picture:

Peaceful, next to the mountains in a fishing community, no skyscraper in sight.

One thing I've noticed is that in the Japanese manufacturers' profiles, the rides are know as leisure machines, a means to escape the hectic life. I've noticed that in America, they can be known as vomit machines by some people. Also, I sometimes get a warm feeling seeing pictures of bayside parks, forested parks, etc. when my nearest park is Marine World, which is more like a giant concrete slab with a hill in the center (but has concrete on it). There are probably less crowded parks in their country; I've noticed that every province has a park. If I visited Japan, I'd try to tour around the little parks for a change in pace; sometimes I get tired of the Six Flags style park. But then there are crowded places like Tokyo. I still haven't even grown up enough to explore America's parks, so I haven't seen if such a peaceful park exists here in our country yet.
