Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
08stien replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The triple down is a pretty amazing experience as it is in complete darkness, but imo it's not the best part of the ride. It catches you by suprise even when you're expecting it, but the air isn't that intense. The best momment of the ride is the air time over the hill coming out of the triple down's tunnel, it just feels like the ride drops out from under you. *and my 2012 input: The only way I would be happy with any kind of steel at HW would be Intamin Mega-Lite* -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
08stien replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
May not be the worst or best but endings that suck or let down and rock or remember off the top of my head: Suck: Adventure Express, Ravine Flyer II, Millennium Force Rock: Voyage, Phantoms Revenge, Hang breaks on any impulse -
PTR: "We're not in Cincinnati anymore Todo"

I agree Kings Dominion and Kings Island are very different, For Example: Kings Dominion has red trash cans, and their boo blaster ride Q is outside But no KD is a very unique park I was just dragging out the "We thought we were at kings island" joke as long as I could. -
So just returning from 2 weeks of vacation that included a week in Virginia and our anual trip to Lake Rudolph and Holiday World I decided to share my opinions and some photos with you. *Warning: We are not credit whores and we are all about having fun on whatever rides make our meat loaf at the time so if rides were skipped on our first trip to these new parks we appologize to anyone who is offended* So we made it to our home park Kings Island. We took our regular bless our little hearts picture infront of the fountains We rode our favorite stunt coaster, but couldn't seem to find larosas pizza anywhere so we headed to the top of the tower to see if we could find it We got to the top of the tower and..OMG!!! WHAT is that!? It seems that somehow we ended up in Virginia and this Kings Island knock off, but it's ok because we found this behemouth It is BIG And it goes FAST Keisha gives an example of how people in Virginia love nascar tooooo much "The car ran good" The first hill is climed much faster than Millennium Force and gets the blood pumpin more than cars going around the same loop of road 500 times in a row At the bottom of the first drop everyone is knocked unconscious This ride really does take a giant flaming dump on Millennium Force and I can easily say it's the most intense coaster I've ever been on. These people are all thinking. "man this would be in my top 10 if only the restraints were a little softer and more like racing straps Intimidator was a freaking blast but just too intense and not reridable enough to crack our top 10's, if anything I would compare it to Top Thrill Dragster more than MF as it has that same kind of atmosphere around it with each train thats sent Hey there's volcano! the ride I was most excited to see in person But with it being 100+ degrees and the claustraphobic Q being hot and smelling like burnt rubber we passed on the long line as this is a ride I was more excited to see than ride(I hope someone knows what I mean when I say that) The bobsled coaster was a hit and a big suprise, we took several laps Now on to the biggest dissapointment of the trip I was so happy to get to ride one of my all time favorites Bat Man Knight Flight again as I couldn't get enough of it when it was at Six Flags Ohio A group of trash cans, we assume on a trash can school field trip were the only ones that wanted to ride that day The first drop was just as good as I remembered And it was a nice touch keeping the loop the same color But oh wow how one of my favorite coasters has gotten rough over its travels from Geauga to Kings Dominion Now we could have caught it on a bad day, or maybe the 110 heat and us not having any snickers made us rate coasters like divas, but it just seemed rough!, and my favorite ejector air out of the brake run was gone We were so mad that Bat Man Knight Flight sucks now that we left the park and started driving til we hit this traffic and ...oh snap! Woo Hoo! we rode our translucent steeds right into Busch Gardens! The only problem was they said our platinum passes were no good here so we had to crush $64 worth of berries before we were aloud in Just a note, the whole freakin park looks like this This is actually the inside of one of the mens restrooms Before we could ride the coasters we had to talk down this family of Ducks Ah! finally a legit top 10 coaster..but oh wait The ride was closed!! .. we can only assume it is better than Diamondback and we'll put it in our top 10 even without riding it...(rumor was they were taking out the last row on each train and replacing it with a flower bed) So we moved on, and took ski lessons in 110 degree heat We passed and were aloud to enter the ride It was a very fun invert, but not as good as either Montu or Raptor in our humble opinions Rides that crawl into the brake run are just a bugaboo of mine, along with onions on cheeseburgers, and the justin beiber, so that really hurt Alpengiest in my ratings Speaking of huge flaming dumps, this ride right here takes several on Spider Man at IOA and any other dark ride ever built..seriously go ride it Note: Look how good I am at taking roller coaster pictures Note: We didn't know that these were about $600 a piece until after we were done playing with them Note: This ride was a cool idea but not that cooley put together, it made us almost naseous Note: This ride freakin rocks! This was our first B&M drop ride and it made us giggle like little school girls, every park should have one *cough cough Cedar Point cough* The best part about Griffon is that these 30 people are all compacted into this little train to experience being hung 200ft above the park for about 5min together Being able to hear everyone on the trains reactions as you go through this tramatic experience together is priceless and will make you laugh with joy the whole ride We may never have been on a coaster more, just plain old 'fun' than Griffon We gave Griffon and Busch Gardens our approval, and we headed back west to our favorite place in the world! Holiday World! I didn't bring a camera because Holiday World is too fun to waste time taking pictures(there were also no new trains so nothing anyone wants to see here) but I'll give you guys a few actions shots of us over the week takin by our professional photographer We love Raven We love Legend I love chain lifts I also love unbanked turns taken extremely fast Jacob does not We tried out the Ravage Red Trains And it had tons of airtime There had to be a difference so we tried to old blue trains too Yep, still gave us tingly feelings in our pants There really is no bad ride on Voyage, and I don't know where all this rough talk came from because it feels the same as opening day to me, if anything faster, but definatly not any rougher.. I think the day dreams about the Timberliners have people thinking their rides are rough And if you get the chance to ride at night, it's well.... SCARY GOOD! .. thanks for reading and feel free to whole heartedly disagree with the opinions expressed in this report

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Rumor has it Cedar Point will now close Maverick for the remainder of the season to install these restraints. -
Like the humor! Has Voyage really gotten that much rougher from just last year? I didn't notice much difference between opening year and last year, won't get to ride this year for a couple of weeks.
-
-rcg19- I have only been on Thunderhead, Ek, and the two Gwazi's but it seems to me like GCI just keeps getting better and better with every coaster they make. ^And no we didn't get to Mr. Freeze, with only a few hours in the park and my sister not being a great fan of going upside down we stuck to EK and the wooden coasters, which was fine with me. It did look like alot of fun though without the over the shoulder restraints.
-
^^Yes I was, but we left around 2 so we wern't there long. EK was amazing and well worth the trip, I just loved how the air time, like Thunderhead, was found throughout the entire ride even when your not expecting it. ^And I guess The Boss wasn't as bad as I made it sound, the double down first drop was a nice suprise. But in my humble opinion it wasn't in the same league as EK.

So with a friday off of work and the next day being a family reunion in St. Louis I found myself planning a wooden coaster weekend with my first trips to both Waldameer, to try out the highly rated Ravine Flyer 2, and Six Flags St. Louis to ride another wooden coaster thats been on my to-do list; Evel Knievel. I must say that both coasters were absolutely everything I expected and more. Both now reside in my top 10 with Evel getting the slight edge as I'm a sucker for the Millenium Flyers and the 2nd half of Ravine Flyer just seeming to crawl along compared to the insanly intense first half. We made the 2 trips to new parks just for these 2 coasters so I hope no one is offended by my lack of credit whoring, I consider myself more of a quality over quantity coaster enthusiast and I am drawn to wood coasters. So enjoy the pictures and feel free to disagree with my opinions. We'll start with Waldameer and the only reason why anyone would ever read a Waldameer TR, RAVINE FLYER part deux! With our car, two others, and a bus in the parking lot upon arival we pretty much had the place to ourselves Those are some sexy PTC's, kinda make me think Voyage Hmmm...Voyage? The empty Q's even smelled like Voyage Q's, but no this ride makes a name for itself right off the bat The first drop in the 2nd to back seat may be the greatest first drop on any coaster as it spirals into the ravine leaving your butt off the seat the entire time After the breathtaking first drop you fly over the bridge into this flippy floppy turnaround thing The first 24 seconds of this ride really blow you away and show you where these rave reviews have come from As you leave the turn around you cross over the bridge again and into my personal favorite portion of the ride, 3 straight pops of air that make you go weeee The 2nd half of the ride is fun with the 90 bla bla bla and all, but we just wern't fans of how it kinda crawls into the brakes for being such an intense coaster out the gate As you come around that last turn into the slow little bunny hops I couldn't help but feel like it was one of my roller coaster tycoon rides where I got the Excitment rating to a 9.1 but I had to add that extra couple slow turns to the ride to reach the 10,000ft. track length so the people would clap on October year 4 Now don't get me wrong this is a top 10 coaster, but I just feel like it should have gone a little more Raven and kept that intensity for a shorter ride, rather than crawling into the brakes just to get that one extra dive into the ravine. In case you wanted to know what coaster enthusiasts in 2007 felt like The steel dragon was a spinning coaster and spinning was not on our agenda so we passed The Whacky Shack was strangely corny, borderline terrifying, and absolutely a hit! The deal or no deal game was a hit and should be installed in all amusement park arcades if it hasn't already Xscream was the love child of power tower and some cheesy fair drop ride so we had alot of fun but were just unsure enough about our safety to be scared We didn't make it to the water park, but it looked to be themed to bird shit We loved Waldameer, and loved Ravine Flyer 2 so now it was off to ride another top wooden coaster 9 hours away You know your in St. Louis when you spot Kingda Ka West..(much more reliable than it's counter-part You know where we were heading first...Evel Knievel! I can't say enough about how awesome this coaster is It never lets up, from beginning to end, with pacing like only the GCI guys can do The Millennium Flyers were in top form as these acrobatic turns were as smooth as glass It's not worth the time trying to describe the layout as it's simply smooth turn-airtime-smooth turn in the opposite direction-repeat This tiny layout gets more airtime than that stupid "aliando" song by lady gaga I can't say enough about how awesome this ride is... oh wait I already said that.. well its good Go ride it...now They look like they're having fun, because they are You actually remain blurred like this for about 8min. after riding because the course is takin at such great speeds And for a behind the scenes look at Evel, ride the antique cars On to The Boss.. the "looks like it's gonna be awesome, let down" of the trip The Boss fits so beautifully in the hilly wooded setting But could it be? Yes those gerstlauer trains slammed into the brake run with everyone yelling "we want prenup!" Ok, that was a bad Kanye song joke but you get the idea..Boss looks amazing, but it'll just leave you dissapointed They had a "Tony Hawks's big steel dragon vs. Mr Six" spinning death machine here that we skipped On a side note, Millennium Force was moved to Six Flags St. Louis.. I feel like it will be a solid addition I felt like these stairs deserved a picture, don't you agree? I don't know why Six Flags hides Screamin Eagle in the back of the park behind all those board walk games, but we found it and it was fun It's very old school-photogenic and just makes me think of that show "Step by Step Day by Day" The mine ride was very painful, but it had 3 lift hills so I guess that's cool Now we have never ridden a Batman Clone, but when we heard that this one wasn't the first, nor the tallest, nor the longest most inverted bestest...our time management skills led us to skip it for more rides on Evel Sara approves Evel Knievel and this trip report We had a great weekend of coasters and said goodbye to st. louis heading back to the o-h-i-o (can you spot it?)

PTR Holiday World 2009: Coasters, Hats, and FREE SOFT DRINKS
08stien replied to 08stien's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Mrs Koch and her family are amazing people. We saw her on our way out the second day and asked her for a picture with us. We told her we live up by Cedarpoint but we like it here at her park much better, and instead of just giving us a nice thank you and moving us along she wanted to know the exact reasons why we liked her park more and she really cared what we had to say. I wouldn't expect to get that from most big time park owners. -
Well myself and the gang have returned from another amazing trip to Holiday World, and lucky for you we captured its greatest with our bright pink cybershot. Enjoy: But we left our favorite park with great memories and new favortie vacation of all time...well until we come to Holiday World again It was a sad time having to leave our favorite coaster for who knows how long Pilgrims Plunge was down both days, but with Cedarpoint being our home park we didn't expect much from an intamin Until it was officially taken too far and we left the hat shop forever! We couldn't believe we had never found this place before, and it was hours of laughs... But then the happy birth day, pirate match made everyone laugh I almost took it too far with this lord of darkness headdress But keisha and I answered with a hamburger hot dog combo Zack Jacob and Debbie came hard with their man-faire, squid head, king of lady humps hat mix As keisha got in on the action with her flying pig hat Debbie and D had no problem with making fun of missing children At the little known jewel of holiday world, the crazy hat shop! But how did we spend over an hour in Christmas you might ask? When the water park got crowded we head off to Christmas, where we didnt find any fun rides But undisclosed injuries entering this portion of the ride resulted in it not being our consensus favorite Zinga could have been our favorite... Zoombabwe was our favorite hands down The racer slide is nice but did you know they have FREE SOFT DRINKS in the water park too? Before we hit the water park we started our day with a healthy breakfast full of Voyage Day 2 came and we ... reported for duty? And thanks to some friendly ride ops, the 6 of us had the entire last train of the night on Voyage all to ourselves! And we marathoned FREE SOFT DRINKS We marathoned Legend As the sun started to go down we marathoned Raven We felt just like Lewis and Clark chugging along in our 1915 automobiles While sipping on FREE SOFT DRINKS we took a ride on Lewis and Clark Trail We came for FREE SOFT DRINKS We didn't come to the Land of 4th of July for this We didn't come to 4th of July for this Next we headed to 4th of July land..do you call it land? It's me acknowleging The Voyage is my #1 coaster, and Keisha ackowledging she just pee'd a little Here's another good photo and...oh wait, whats that again!? We zoom in to see Debbie and Jacob acknowledging The Voyage is the greatest coaster ever built Ok ok I made that up too, but this ride is amazing...and hey whats that there? And there's also no doubt to the reports that virgin woman have climbed aboard The Voyage and returned to the station 3 months pregnant But there's no doubt that it's the greatest, most air-time filled, hands down #1 coaster in the planet. Ok ok so maybe I lied and it's not really the tallest or fastest coaster on earth. As these riders reach the 'about 500ft' mark they are preparing themselves for the 275mph greatest coaster on earth We never really heard the exact statistics but from this photo you can see just how big 'about 800ft' is As you can see by this photo The Voyage is the tallest roller coaster on the planet, standing at what we roughly estimated to be 800ft. Oh, also over in Thanksgiving is The REAL Greatest World Wide Ever...bla bla Coaster on earth! MORE FREE SOFT DRINKS Thanksgiving was next, and everyone knows what is waiting for us there... The 88 degree drop then dives into the "Worlds Loudest Tunnel" as you head into the wilderness/water park We LOVE The Legends first drop as it's obvious to see from around the park that it's 88 degrees Since The Legend is much more photogenic than Raven we got some nice layout shots like this one On to The Legend we went FREE SOFT DRINKS The Legend also resides in Halloween, but first we headed to... And when he came back down this is the best shot of the Raven in action he could get The Raven is so hard to photograph that we asked this Holiday World employee to climb this tower and try to get a shot for us It is so un-photogenic that this is the best action shot we could get We wouldn't quite give it that title, but we will give it the title of hardest coaster to photograph in the world Halloween is home to the Greatest World Wide Most Amazing Fantastic Coaster Ever Built on Earth Ever in the World Well our adventure starts in the O-SO scary Halloween But everyone is excited for FREE SOFT DRINKS Myself and Keisha are excited for her first time at Holiday World Sara and I are excited for Rabbits with an excessive amount of arms Me, Keisha, D, and Jacob are excited to see Santa We arrive at a place much better than Cedar Point

So sunday was my girlfriend's b-day so I decided to take her to see her favorite team, then visit her favorite park. On to the photos: IN REVERSE ORDER, of course, i apologize First stop: "Jacobs" Field to pretend that I like my lady's favorite team. We saw plenty of hardcore fans like this guy embarrassing everyone they were with. The Indians sucked as expected, but it's ok because they had amazing hot dogs. A special thanks to smuckers for making me look like the greatest boyfriend ever. After a stop at her favorite place we headed west an hour to her favorite park. With a 6oclock arrival and light crowds we were set up for a good night. First up was her favorite ride. It went real fast and took our picture, then real high, then real fast and took our picture again. Keisha's bright pink cybershot tried so hard to be artistic. Next was the lady's second favorite, Wicked Twister. Wicked Twister is themed to a sidewalk. We also rode Magnum and everyone that goes to Cedar Point forgets to photograph it so we made sure to get a nice cybershot-walking-by-as-we-head-to-other-rides-photo We LOVE LOVE these things and don't understand why they don't get any hype. As night fell we headed over to experience this element: Known as a karate chop to the neck by some, but the only ride element that comes close to the amazingness of The Voyage triple down by myself. Maverick was broken and it was getting close to closing time. No need to worry though for we found giant irish hot dog hats! And with a little luck and some friendly ride ops we were on the final train of the night, in the front seat! Our last stop was to check out this Starlight Experience that we had heard about. And it didn't disapoint! This is the fall section which gave some crazy photos along with giving me crazy eyes. We were so 'star-struck' that we only got a few pictures. This is the final section(winter), that was complete with fake snow and all. It truly is an amazing experience that pictures can't do justice. Snoopy approves this birthday and is telling every to COME SEE STARLIGHT!

What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
08stien replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Voyage - Holiday World---The perfect ride in my opinion. 2. Thunderhead - Dollywood ---More like a "1a" than my second favorite. 3. Top Thrill Dragster - Cedar Point ---A pure rush that never gets old. 4. Magnum XL-200 - Cedar Point ---The ride that started it all, and still holds it's own. 5. Dueling Dragons - Ice - Islands of Adventure---Much better than Fire in my opinion. 6. Phantom's Revenge - Kennywood ---One of the most underated rides on the planet. 7. Legend - Holiday World ---It dosn't get the hype of Raven, but it is a much more complete ride. 8. Kumba - Busch Gardens Tampa ---A classic that I could ride all day(and tryed to once). 9. Raptor - Cedar Point ---One of the most intense B&M's around with near flawless pacing. 10. Raven - Holiday World---What more can be said about this ride. -
What is your favorite Roller Coaster?

I really cannot pick a number one, but I narrowed it down to four. Magnum XL-200 Top Thrill Dragster Thunderhead The Voyage -
Need some Cedar Point advice from the experts!
08stien replied to XLRBR's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ride Millennium first. Millennium has had terrible copacity after the seatbelt debaucal and lines will be longer for it than Dragster all day(if Dragster doesn't break down). Sunday I rode Millennium at 11 and it had about an hour wait, while Dragster we rode 4 times during the day and never waited more than 25min. If Dragster runs well like it has been all season, it has the best copacity in the park.
