If your average Lagoon guest thought Jet Star 2 had "lost it's luster" and is "old/outdated," there would never be a line for it. Obviously guests still love it because they still Ride it and ridership hasn't dropped at all. If it had, Lagoon never would have added a dual loading station to improve capacity. Jet Star 2 is in no way unsafe, as the Chassis are in Great Condition and the Stronger Wheel Housings that Lagoon had Fabricated many years ago are still in great condition. There's absolutely nothing mechanically wrong with the Ride and Maintenance costs are no higher now then they were 10 years ago. The problems with Cliffhanger are mostly specific to this single installation. It has had much better up time in the past couple of years, and we'll have to see if the Brakes on the Gondolas are back working. Again, it's there to get you wet, which it does perfectly. I would be totally on board with Gravity Kraft Trains for Roller Coaster, after experiencing them at Tayto Park. It's also funny how Jordan and I talked about on Saturday what an ART Wood Coaster Train would be like. lol I would still say Musik Express looks more like a temporary ride than Screamer or TOTC. I know that as a trailer mounted ride, TOTC's Maintenance Inspections include maintaining Tire Pressure, but that was a decade ago, so things may have changed. Because of it's design as a trailer mounted ride, I was told that the platform had to remain as it is, and I would imagine it would be the same for Screamer. I like our long essays about Lagoon. Roller Coaster can be Rough, but Jet Star 2? I've ridden it with worn wheels and it wasn't that bad. I think you guys are confusing an aggressive ride, with quick and sometimes jarring transitions, as rough. Jet Star 2 has a minimum height requirement of 50" because it is so aggressive and can really throw a smaller rider around. That's why it's fun and a classic. The money spent of Jet Star 2 isn't an astronomical amount by any means. When Jet Star 2 does reach the end of it's service life, it will be removed. No other manufacturer offers a "Water Thrill Ride." HUSS does have Top Spins that use water effects, but those have a 54" minimum height requirement to Cliffhanger's 50". I may be mistaken, but new PTC cars on Roller Coaster would mean a 48" minimum height requirement and seat belts. Coasters with a Base Frame don't look tacky, and I would argue that Screamer and Turn of the Century, which are Lagoon's only true Trailer Mounted rides, look better than their Park Model counterparts. Both Screamer and TOTC are higher off the ground, which adds more thrill in my opinion. Witch's Wheel and Wave Swinger at Cedar Point never were as thrilling as those at Lagoon. Samurai, by the way, even though it is a park model, is built on a Chassis AND is on Blocks. Lagoon is a Traditional Amusement Park, the Largest Family Owned one in the US. They don't want to be a "Premier Amusement Park," which is one reason why I love it so much. They do what they do best, and that's be different. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Every ride manufacturer has problems now and then with things, and just because one ride has them, doesn't mean every one manufactured does or will. It's always better to be safe and keep an eye on things, like Lagoon does. I don't believe I've ever heard anyone call Jet Star 2 rough. I love Jet Star 2 because it's got a little bit of everything.....pop of air on the first drop, great g forces, disorientating, carousels, and the reduction brake is the exclamation point. Lagoon spends money on Jet Star 2 because the Ride still has plenty of riders, and the dual loading has made it more efficient. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

EXACTLY - seems very irresponsible on the part of RMC to wait until the entire structure was complete before performing any testing to evaluate the system. I know there will be TEST AND ADJUST but to be "surprised" that the entire system is not working just seems a little weird. Velocity Magnetics is the LSM Vendor, so I wouldn't put it on RMC because they have high standards and want to deliver a product that will operate consistently and not break down right after it opens. Shit happens. :\ Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

There's a bazillion reasons, and that's just one of them. In Lagoon's case, it's the AC motors, Gearbox failures on Cliffhanger and same with Samurai. There's also the potential for stress fractures at several points on Mondial Top Scans that have come to light in service bulletins. Preventative maintenance is important, and if that means a neutered ride that will have a longer service life, I'm all for it. Besides, Lagoon is a park that keeps throwing money at Jet Star 2, when most other parks would have scraped it more than a decade ago. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

I would imagine Velocity Magnetics would have had data to back up their product in order for them to have been selected as the LSM Vendor. It sounds to me they didn't have a product that would consistently propel the trains to a proper speed. To my knowledge, every LSM/LIM Launch System collects data from the previous launch, in order to calculate how much energy it will take to get the next vehicle up to speed. That could have also been an issue, but I'm just speculating on the whole thing. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

That is what many assumed, until this week, when the support in question was removed: Now I understand. If there is an alignment issue, it's not hard to correct in the field. I wouldn't be surprised if they weld in an extension to that column, as that seems like the easiest solution, but they'll still have to drill a hole in the column to check the weldments. The only differences I see are those gray "boxes" or whatever that appeared to have been installed adjacent to the LSM fin. Not sure what they will be used for, maybe something anti-rollback related? PCU Cabinets maybe, but that Cable Tray looks awful barren. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk ^ Probably. I didn't notice them before. When it comes to that cable tray, I agree. It actually looks worse the further away you look at it. Once the new Stators are installed, I'm sure the cable tray filled with cables will have a cover put on. Let's also hope they do something to it so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Samurai is still a good flat on a bad day. The new restraints should be nice as well. I've seen it used as a glorified bench. No flips, no fountains, it just spun in circles without the brakes engaging. That was the program all day when I visited last year. Kinda unfortunate. Sent from my XXXtreme Home Desktop using Chrome I know the brakes on the Gondolas were giving them troubles last year, and they only used them part way through the summer. Unless it was cold, the fountains should have been running. Was the pool empty? It would certainly have been the safest bench in the world. lol Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Man, if you think Samurai is awesome now, you should have seen it when it was new. Unfortunately, Lagoon has had to neuter it for maintenance reasons, especially after the gear box failure of 2007. Back in July of 2000, I was one of the first riders on the first public ride cycle, and it was everything I dreamed a Top Scan would be like. Cycle 6, programmed by one of the Rides Managers, was off the hook. Today, as far as I'm aware, Samurai only uses 1 very weak ride cycle, and I haven't even bothered to ride it in several years, since there's no where near the amount of flipping there once was. I'll be taking more pics around the park on Saturday, when LagoonisFun.com has it's next Potluck. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk Don't be scared to not ride it because of Sid. I have managed to still get some pretty extreme twists out of the ride. It still is a great ride either way. I wonder why both Mondial's in the park had to be dumbed down so much. I know the stories and the reasons, it just seems like they turned into worse investments in the end. Especially since Cliffhanger NEVER flips anymore and is just an extravagant, wet ferris wheel with an extreme ride height. I believe he's already been on Samurai. Since you know the reason why they are neutered, why do you ask? lol Cliffhanger has always and will always be primarily a Water Ride. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Fry Sauce is traditionally made using 1 part Ketchup, 1 part Mayo, some Buttermilk, and dash of Sugar, but most places just do 1 part Ketchup to 1 part Mayo. BBQ Sauce is sometimes substituted for Ketchup. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk -

Nice Trip Report, and you discovered why I never recommend visiting Lagoon for the first time on opening day. I usually recommend June, because the park doesn't look so naked. To answer some questions you and others have brought up.... Arguably, this was Lagoon's roughest opening day in about 16 years. Air Race wasn't ready, and I hear that was all on Zamperla, Samurai wasn't ready, and one of the Kiddie Rides. There were several late ride openings, mostly due to the cold temps, as the trains have to be warmed up, on Fire Dragon especially. It's better to have a ride open late and operate most of the day than have a train roll back. Even with Cannibal opening late a lot last year, after it opened, the park still had a 95%+ on time opening average for the 2015 season. Lagoon instituted a policy of No Bags, No Hats, etc. after a bag fell off a Wicked Train and took out an LSM Stator, which resulted in the ride being down for a week during the summer. Lagoon installed the free 30 minute ride lockers at most coasters in 2011-2013, and they've always been a headache. To top that off, the company went out of business. I've heard Lagoon is getting new locker systems, but the manufacturer doesn't have them ready. Lagoon doesn't have bins on platforms for a couple reasons. One is that most platforms, with the exception of Roller Coaster, are not large enough, the Train doesn't return to the same place you got on, and it hurts capacity. Group Sales are Lagoon's bread and butter. There are church groups, other groups, and companies that have Lagoon Days, and some of those groups do "Entrance Only" Passports, that don't include Rides or Lagoon-A-Beach. This is why Ride Tickets may be required, along with the kids 2 and under that are free, and the Park maps explain that they can be purchased at several places 2 for $1. I wish Lagoon would not have scheduled "hat runs," and just force people to wait until after closing. Each Coaster has a specific time in the afternoon, when loose articles are retrieved, and operation suspended for no more than 15 minutes. Cannibal's one way gate and fence has struck me as completely odd, but that may be for crowd control and to keep people from line jumping as easily. The cubby system at Cannibal works far better this year than last, as there's no more running up and down stairs to grab bins. Cannibal's restraints are probably the safest on any coaster, as there are something like 4 mechanical locks on each lap bar, as well as an on board hydraulic pump powered by a buss bar in the station only. So that's like 4 mechanical locks and 2 hydraulic cylinders on each and every restraint. I don't believe there are any other coasters that have on board hydraulic pumps to release the hydraulic cylinders. -

Check Dollywood's Facebook Page and the Comments about the Lightning Rod Ice Cream. There are every day people complaining about the ride not being open. The same thing happened last year on Lagoon's Facebook Page when Cannibal didn't open with the park. Lagoon never gave an exact Opening Date, even when the ride was announced, and your average Utah Bob took to Facebook to express how they felt ripped off. It was especially funny that people who hadn't yet been to the park felt "ripped off." People called news stations, and one station or another was doing a story on it every couple weeks or so. Of course, once it opened on July 2nd, everyone forgot about it.
